GENERAL
Stewards accepted the explanation of Trainer A. Jenkinson in regard to late declaration of riders for STRONG TEMPO (Race 1), PEBS MAGIC (Race 2) & LOOSE UNIT (Race 5). Riders were engaged as per Stewards summary.
Jockey A. Robinson advised Stewards he was unable to fulfil his engagements due to personal reasons and riding changes were made as per Stewards summary.
Race 1: Carnarvon Gorge Open Handicap- 1000 metres
1st – STOUTFAST 2nd - WHARTON WILLIE 3rd - DANZIG WARRIOR 4th – STARMAN
From approximately the 400 metres, STARMAN (T O’Hara) raced wide.
At approximately the 150 metres, INDOLLARGENCE (App A Taylor) was held up for clear running behind INFRINGEMENT (M Barnham) and DANZIG WARRIOR (App. C. Pye) both of which shifted ground. INDOLLARGENCE shifted inwards to gain clear running and was further held up momentarily behind ANDURIL (S. Evans) which was tiring.
Race 2: Blackdown Tableland Class 3 Handicap- 1100 metres
1st - LET’S GO BONGO 2nd - ROYAL COUNSEL 3rd - BLACK ANGUS 4th – LET ME BE ROCK
AMAROCCO SPECIAL (W. Glass) was slow away.
Rounding the home turn, BLACK ANGUS (M. Barnham) was held up and steadied from the heels of SHE’S EXCITING (M. Usher)
At approximately the 150 metres, BLACK ANGUS was hampered slightly when SHE’S EXCITING shifted in slightly under pressure.
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice R. Cox, rider of LET THERE BE ROCK placed fourth against second placegetter ROYAL COUNSEL (App. A. Taylor) for alleged interference over the concluding stages. It was established that at approximately the 100 metres, LET’S GO BONGO (N. Patchett) has laid in and bumped LET THERE BE ROCK inwards and ROYAL COUNSEL, which had commenced to shift outwards under pressure whilst being ridden along, hampered LET THERE BE ROCK which was steadied. Stewards were not satisfied that ROYAL COUNSEL was solely responsible and that ground lost in this incident exceeded the beaten margin, and therefore dismissed the objection.
At a subsequent inquiry, App A. Taylor was reprimanded for careless riding for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount.
LET’S GO BONGO raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Peak Range Maiden Plate- 1200 metres
1st - BELLA PRINCIPESSA 2nd – SLIDE BY SLIDE 3rd - PEB’S MAGIC 4th – PIC THE KING
SLIDE BY SLIDE was difficult to load.
At the start, PEBS MAGIC (M. Usher) was slow into stride.
DIESEL (M. Cant) was tightened on jumping between EUROCENT (App. C Pye) and VEYRON (App. A Taylor) both of which shifted ground.
SLIDE BY SLIDE (R. Hall), which has jumped inwards, shifted in further shortly after the start and tightened GREENVALE GIFT (N. Patchett) in onto SEVENS PLENTY (C. Beets)
At approximately the 800 metres, SEVENS PLENTY was steadied from the heels of SNIP OF RORY (T. O’Hara).
SLIDE BY SLIDE (R. Hall) raced erratically for a short distance and threw its head up when restrained.
Jockey A. Coome was found guilty to a charge of careless riding in that at approximately the 800 metres, he allowed PIC THE KING to shifted in when insufficiently clear of SNIP OF RORY (T. O’Hara) which was dictated in onto EUROCENT (App. C Pye) which shifted in and caused EDNAMAY (D. Whitmore) to make heavy contact with the running rail and lose its rightful running. Jockey A. Coome had his licence to ride in races suspended from m/n Thursday 17th December, 2009 up to and including Friday 8th January, 2010 (4 NQ & Capricornia meetings)
In this incident, Jockey D. Whitmore became unbalanced and lost the use of his irons. EDNAMAY shifted out abruptly, which caused VEYRON (App. A. Taylor) to be hampered and PAWS ‘N’ PEARLS (J. Stephens) to be inconvenienced and alter course. DIESEL (M. Cant), which was following EDNAMAY, has clipped its heels, blundered and took no further competitive part in the race. BELLA PRINCIPESSA (M. Barnham) was also been slightly. ENDAMAY was retired from the event.
PIC THE KING shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
There was delay to correct weight as Jockey M. Usher wished to view the print for 2nd. After doing so, Jockey Usher was satisfied and correct weight was declared.
Race 4: Sapphire Gemfields Class B Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – GLENNIE WEST 2nd - GRAND NEDIYM 3rd – MOUBASSIN 4th – READY NOW GENERAL
TWO BOB SNOB was declared a late scratching at 2.15pm acting on veterinary advice..
FOXIN’ AROUND (App. C Pye) was fractious in the barriers.
MOCHA TART (N. Patchett) jumped out and made contact with BOLD GREY (M. Cant) which was taken out and QUELLO CORSA (A. Coome) lost some ground when awkwardly placed between BOLD GREY and PICCOLO KNIGHT (App. A Taylor)
At approximately the 100 metres, ARTIC BEAR (J. Stephens) improved onto the heels of PICCOLO KNIGHT was steadied and shifted in to obtain clear running.
PICCOLO KNIGHT shifted out under pressure on two occasions in the straight.
Apprentice C Pye reported that FOXIN AROUND felt awkward in its action behind and didn’t travel well throughout. A post-race veterinary inspection failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
Race 5: Stork’s 50th Birthday Class 6 Plate- 1300 metres
1st - ORPEN LOVE 2nd - SATZERO 3rd - WILD HERO 4th – IMPASSABLE
IMPASSABLE (J. Stephens) was slow away.
Rounding the home turn, IMPASSABLE was held up for clear running behind BRAWNY JACK (C. Beets)
A post-race veterinary inspection of KNOWN PROSPECT (W. Glass) which commenced to yield ground from the home turn revealed the gelding was lame in the off hind and may have struck itself in running. Trainer M Oates stated the gelding would now be spelled.
