Race 5: Emerald Service Centre Class 6 Plate - 1300 metres
1st MISTABLISTA 2nd DIAMOND ACE 3rd MY LADY IN WAITING 4th- MAYALBE

Correct weight was delayed when stewards made application to have MEAN MACHINE declared a non-runner due to its barrier failing to open.

After viewing the patrol film and taking evidence from Jockey Sheargold and starter John McLellan, it was established that MEAN MACHINE’s barrier failed to open with the field and the horse made significant contact with the gate at which time the gate opened. Stewards questioned Jockey S Sheargold regarding his riding and it was established that after the gelding broke through the barriers he became unbalanced when the horse shifted out, acting with the gelding’s welfare in mind Jockey Sheargold pulled the gelding up.

Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MEAN MACHINE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

He stated that the gelding felt fine in his action but was of the opinion that the gelding was better suited to shorter distances.
A post-race veterinary inspection of CHARMINGLY revealed a slow post recovery.

Trainer R Higginbotham advised stewards that CHARMINGLY had pulled up well and was at a loss to explain the performance. It is his intention to start the gelding in a shorter event next start.
