A pre-race veterinary inspection of TURF TSAR, which had kicked a rail at the stables prior to arriving on course, cleared the gelding to start.
Prior to the start, A LITTLE BIT SASSY (App A Kitson) was fractious in the barriers.
BIG YIN (App C Pye) jumped inwards and made contact with CARIVAH (App B Floyd) which lost some ground.
IRON MIKE (L. Dillon) was slow into stride.
BAGGER BONES (S Sheargold) raced in a three wide position throughout. Jockey Sheargold reported the saddle shifted slightly on the home turn and he was unbalanced for a short distance.
Approaching the home turn, AUTOVON (App H Lee) rolled out and tightened MISS ANITORES (D. Evans). MISS ANITORES was steadied and shifted inwards. Jockey Evans stated the mare had over-reacted to being steadied and lost more ground as a result.

Jockey Galvin stated he restrained LUCY LOU when held behind POWER TO EXCEED and shortly after commenced to shift outwards. He further stated he was committed to shifting outside of GIVE IM ZA and at that time clear running became available to the outside of POWER TO EXCEED. Over the concluding stages, COURALLIE STAR was held up and went to line without being fully tested.

App. Pye stated she was disappointed in the performance and the gelding had felt uncomfortable during the middle stages and was under pressure from the 700 metres and gave ground from the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of VENNOM did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
