WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
GENERAL: M. Privato was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved: Race 4. THE WHISPER - A. Patillo; Race 6. SHADOW SHOOTER - N. Day; Race 7. HIGHFIELD LAD - M. Lister; Race 8. AIR OF MYSTIQUE - D. Green.
RACE 1: WIVENHOE MOTOR INN H'CAP - 1460M.
IN THE GUN was hampered at the start when tightened for room between RESPECTFUL GRACE and KRYSTAL OF BOYLAND, which shifted out.
IN THE GUN was inclined to pull hard in the early stages and approaching the 1000m. had to be steadied off the heels of WINTER EXPRESS, and then continued to get its head up and overraced for some distance.
Approaching 1200m., KYSTAL OF BOYLAND, which racing ungenerously, shifted out abruptly and had to be checked across the heels of ALBITIOUS, forcing LADY IVOR wider on the track.
RACE 2: KILCOY SENTINEL H'CAP - 800M.
SHARANTAN LASS was slow to begin.
PALAZZIO had to be steadied a short distance after the start off the heels of PARIS IN SUMMER, which was inclined to lay in.
Rounding the home turn, VIBRANT AND FREE had to be steadied off the heels of CARERA, which shifted in slightly. A. Erhart was reminded of his obligations and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
C.Reith, rider of PALAZZIO, accidentally dropped his whip upon entering the straight.
Over the concluding stages, PARIS IN SUMMER shifted in momentarily hampering CARERA.
RACE 3: B.V. FARM SUPPLIES H'CAP - 800M.
K. Pope, rider of STUMPY JESTER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 600m. he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of ALBRE START, causing that horse to be checked. K. Pope was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 20 February, and to expire at midnight, 4 March 2000.
RACE 4: ESK MOBIL ROADHOUSE H'CAP - 1200M.
MISTER BIG TIME and GENERAL DERBY came together on jumping away.
LADY VIA jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000m., JUDE'S AFFAIR shifted out abruptly, taking THE WHISPER out on to EN PREMIERE, which in turn made contact with the hind quarters of MANDA PANDA. ROCKIN' HALO and ROBYN'S RISK were both inconvenienced as a consequence.
RACE 5: B.V. MEATES H'CAP - 1200M.
HEART'S TREASURE missed the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer B. McLachlan's representative was advised that a warning was being placed on HEART'S TREASURE.
A warning was also issued to the connections of MAYNE LE SOBER which was also slow to begin.
RACE 6: SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
FLYING SATIN jumped outwards at the start and hampered MUSICAL TOTE.
MISTER BOSS and ALANOR BEAU were both slow to begin.
Leaving the 800m., PELAGIC LIMIT shifted out and made contact with PISANI BAY, forcing that gelding wider on the track. PISANI BAY was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
A post race veterinary examination of GLORY VAIN revealed that filly to be lame in the off hind leg.
After running of this event, K. Pope was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. J. Pollard was substituted as the rider of EMMA'S LODGE (Race 7) and D. Green as the rider of FIDERE (Race 8).
RACE 7: ANSETT AUSTRALIA TRAINERS' CHALLENGE - 1200M.
EMMA'S LODGE was slow to begin.
AMEDEO was hampered by ILUMBAH, which was inclined to lay in and away from HIGHFIELD LAD, which shifted in slightly.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HIGHFIELD LAD, trainer E. Harden stated that he believed the gelding raced in a manner which suggested the it had come to the end of its preparation, and that he would be sending HIGHFIELD LAD for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination of HIGHFIELD LAD failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 8: AUSSIE HORSE RUGS H'CAP - 1750M.
PLACID REIGN was slow to begin.
Approaching the 600m., PLACID REIGN shifted out abruptly, inconveniencing DANTE.
Rounding the home turn, AIR OF MYSTIQUE was hampered by FIDERE, which shift in slightly after breaking down in its near fore leg. FIDERE was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and due to the extent of the injuries, was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
