WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD
GENERAL: As N. Jolly was currently serving a careless riding suspension incurred at Beaudesert on on Friday, 16 February, the following riding replacements were approved: Race 1. ALWAYS AIM - K. Pope; Race 3. RACY RHYMER - K. Pope; Race 4. KING CLAUDIUS - B. Swanton.
RACE 1: ALAN THOMPSON H'CAP - 800M.
D. Craven failed to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement on SPECIAL SLOT and was replaced by T. Brown.
STEELY DAWN was reluctant to proceed to the barriers and then proved very difficult to load, resulting in its tongue tie breaking. STEELY DAWN then raced without that gear. Trainer D. Boyd was advised that a warning was being placed on STEELY DAWN.
HELLO COPPER was slow to begin.
Approaching the 600m., ALWAYS AIM lost ground when reluctant to hold its position when cramped for room between VATALIA and PRINCE BORIS.
Nearing the home turn, ALWAYS AIM again had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PRINCE BORIS, which shifted in when racing greenly.
The saddle on SPECIAL SLOT (T. Brown) rolled to the nearside rounding the home turn, resulting in T. Brown being placed at a disadvantage.
PETE'S PRIDE was inclined to run out under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 2: VINCE FLYNN H'CAP - 800M.
JOYFUL PRINCE got its head in the air at the start, losing ground.
HOT FEET also lost ground after jumping jumped awkwardly, and soon after was inconvenienced by PESTY BOY, which shifted out.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that CHESTA'S KINGDOM had quartered its nearside fore heel.
RACE 3: PAUL DOLAN H'CAP - 1200M.
ACE CAN DO was a late scratching at 8.30 a.m. on veterinary advice.
BREE'S ACE was slow to begin.
FOLLOW MY FAITH and RACY RHYMER made contact on jumping away.
RACY RHYMER and ITASCA were both tightened for room on jumping away between HAD A HUNCH, which shifted in, and FOLLOW MY FAITH, which commenced to shift out. A short distance later, FOLLOW MY FAITH continued to shift out, resulting in RACY RHYMER having to be checked, and both ITASCA and HAD A HUNCH being steadied to avoid FOLLOW MY FAITH. ALANNITE, which was following, also had to be steadied as a result of this incident. M. Rodd, rider of FOLLOW MY FAITH, then eased the filly out of the race after its nearside stifle appeared to lock. A veterinary examination of FOLLOW MY FAITH revealed soreness to the near hind leg. Trainer L. Brazier was advised that FOLLOW MY FAITH would be required to successfully barrier trial and obtain a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
RACE 4: NOEL BEST H'CAP - 1200M.
SHADOW SHOOTER shifted out after passing 1100m., resulting in KING CLAUDIUS having to be steadied.
After leaving the 1000m., SMOKE JENSEN shifted out, resulting in SHY ON MANNERS being taken out across the heels of MA FOI and having to be eased.
RACE 5: SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer B. Castles was reprimanded for failing to have the Document of Description for YOGI'S EDITION on course.
HOUSE OF HORRORS reared at the start and lost considerable ground.
GREAT WONDER was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m., YOGI'S EDITION was momentarily tightened for room by FRENCH TYPHOON, which shifted in.
RACE 6: THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS QLD ASSOCIATION H'CAP - 1200M.
VIRGO'S HORIZON jumped awkwardly, losing ground.
CHANTIQUE and OZZEL were both slow to begin.
Nearing the 1000m., VIRGO'S HORIZON commenced to race fiercely and got its head up after being momentarily tightened for room by ARROGANT GHOST.
Leaving the 500m., HON KWOK SPIRIT became unbalanced and shift in, making contact with the running rail and lost ground abruptly. CHANTIQUE, which was following, had to be severely checked off the heels of that runner.
Approaching the 200m., MING PALACE shifted out abruptly and in doing so inconvenienced REGAL PIGGY.
RACE 7: QLD RACEHORSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION H'CAP - 1460M.
R. Pittman replaced the indisposed R. Kerwin on MONKIRA.
MONKIRA jumped awkwardly and shifted out, losing ground.
On jumping away, TOTAL POSSESSION shifted out and made contact with RIVER STAGE, which in turn made contact with FOREVER GRAND. At the same stage, NEVER SEEN shifted in and crowded the running of FOREVER GRAND. T. Ikenushi, rider of NEVER SEEN, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
A short distance later, FOREVER GRAND was inclined to shift in and away from MONKIRA and as a result made heavy contact with the hind quarters of RIVER STAGE.
When RIVER STAGE commenced to lose ground at the 400m., NEVER SEEN shifted in off the heels of that gelding, resulting in OFF TO MARKET being hampered.
Rounding the home turn, PULMAN'S RETREAT had to be steadied after improving up on to the heels of the tiring RIVER STAGE.
RACE 8:ALISON BEST H'CAP - 1460M.
Trainer M. Brosnan was reprimanded for failing to have the Document of Description for LINDA LUSH LIPS on course.
CYRENE was tightened for room on jumping away between MR. INSURANCE and VIDID EDGE, which jumped outwards. A short distance later, CYRENE kunckled over and lost ground.
Approaching the 300m., MALLEE FIRE had to be steadied off the heels of TRUNCHEON, which shifted in whilst tiring. L. Harris, rider of TRUNCHEON, was urged to make more effort to keep his mounts on a true course.
MR. INSURANCE was held up for clear running over the final 200m..
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
