STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C. McLune (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr J. Williamson (Cadet).
WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
RACE 1: KELATOLYTE & HOOF PRIME H'CAP - 1460M.
SEQUIK, ORIGIN WARRIOR and PEROXIDE were all slow begin.
ALICIAN, which was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
TOLGA DAN and EMPEROR'S REVENGE raced wide throughout the event.
RACE 2: SWELL DOWN H'CAP - 1200M.
SAHARA SNOW shifted in at the start and made contact with GREAT SMILE. GREAT SMILE then commenced to buck and did so for some distance before being retired from the event near the 800m.. Trainer M. Palmer was advised that GREAT SMILE would be required to barrier trial satisfactory prior to its next race start. M. Palmer subsequently reported that GREAT SMILE had twisted its off fore plate in running.
Approaching the 900m., THEIR OF TIME was momentarily cramped for room by HENRY THE FRUITBAT, which shifted in.
After leaving the 500m., TAHLULA had to be momentarily steadied as a result of SURPRISED shifting in.
RACE 3: BETA CALM H'CAP - 800M.
Trainer M. Palmer was fined the sum of $50 for presenting OUR FRAN with incorrect gear.
MADAME RETZ, which was slow to begin, was hampered soon after by MY BLUE JAE, which shifted out.
A short distance later, OUR FRAN shifted out and made heavy contact with WINSOME BOY.
PICK ME UP made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, taking KAMIKAZE BELLE wider on the track.
Y. Ota, rider of ED'S ACE, accidentally dropped her whip soon after entering the straight.
After leaving the 150m., MY BLUE JAE became unbalanced and commenced to lay in.
An inquiry was opened into the reason for R. Pittman, rider of MY BLUE JAE, being dislodged at the winning post. After taking evidence from D. Griffin (WINSOME BOY), P. Spry (BILL THE BOATMAN), R. Hancock (MADAME RETZ), C. Small (KAMIKAZE BELLE) and P. Hammersley (PICK ME UP) the inquiry was adjourned to a date to fixed to enable R. Pittman, who was transported to hospital, to give evidence. As R. Pittman was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements, the following riding substitutions were permitted: Race 4. HOUSE OF HORRORS - P. Hammersley; Race 6. ELECTED POST - P. HAMMERSLEY; Race 7. SAIL THE WIND - C. Spry.
RACE 4: LOOSEN UP H'CAP - 800M.
HOUSE OF HORRORS reared and lost considerable ground at the start. Trainer R. Turgeon was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier test certificate for HOUSE OF HORRORS prior to its next race start.
RACE 5: KELATO VIT H'CAP - 800M.
Due to transport difficulties, TRILOBITE failed to arrive on course and was declared a late scratching at 3.20 p.m..
OUR LURE made contact with the side partition of the barriers on jumping away and lost ground.
MAGICAL MAN was slow to begin.
PALAZZIO made the home turn awkwardly when racing in restricted room inside OUR LURE, which shifted in slightly.
Leaving the 400m., BLAZEON shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
RACE 6: ZANO BOLIC H'CAP - 1200M.
DELTA PRINCE blundered on jumping away and lost ground, and then was further hampered by READY TO RAW, which shifted out.
SON OF ROSSI shifted out abruptly at the start, inconveniencing LOOKS LIKE MONEY.
Approaching the 1000m., DELTA PRINCE and ELOVENA both had to be checked as a result of READY TO RAW being taken in by SON OF ROSSI. Stewards found that the saddled on SON OF ROSSI had shifted on jumping away, which prevented M. Smith-Lester from being able to relieve the pressure to the riders to his inside.
L. Appo, rider of LOOKS LIKE MONEY, was reprimanded for permitted his mount to shift in near the 700m., resulting in SON OF ROSSI being tightened in on to READY TO RAW. DELTA PRINCE, which was following, had to be steadied as a result of READY TO RAW being steadied.
RACE 7: J B DRYNAN MEMORIAL H'CAP - 1200M.
As D. Craven was indisposed after riding in race 6, C. Small was substituted as the rider of NEDIYM'S MEASURE.
NEDIYM'S MEASURE was slow to begin, losing considerable ground.
SAIL THE WIND and GLENNAL were tightened for room approaching the 1100m. between PARTICIPANT and LOOKS A LOVER, which shifted in. C. Eaton, rider of LOKS A LOVER, was advised to exercise more care. A short distance later, SAIL THE WIND then shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of FLYING CARD.
Approaching the 900m., HAYLA CAB, which was racing in restricted room to the inside of LOOKS A LOVER, had to be steadied as a result of that gelding shifting in despite the efforts of C. Eaton.
Nearing the 400m., LOOKS A LOVER shifted in abruptly, and as a result TRUSCAN had to be steadied.
After being held up for some distance in the straight, N. Tomizawa, rider of TRUSCAN, when endeavouring to obtain clear running, shifted out, resulting in LOOKS A LOVER having to be steadied. Apprentice N. Tomizawa was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
RACE 8: QUICK HEAL H'CAP - 1460M.
Apprentice J. Fleming was reprimanded for failing to claim his full allowance on SUPER.
BREACH and TRINEWAL were slow to begin
Apprentice J. Fleming, rider of SUPER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BREATH, resulting in that gelding being taken in across the running of TEARS OF GOLD, which had to be checked and shifted in, causing TRINEWAL being tightened onto the running rail. J. Fleming was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 16 September, and to expire at midnight, 26 September 2001.
Approaching the home turn, TEARS OF GOLD had to be eased off the heels of BREATH, which shifted in.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that NADEED'S LIMIT, which finished a distant last, was sore in the near shoulder following the event. Trainer J. Lyons was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for NADEED'S LIMIT prior to its next race start.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
