Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice K. Gates regarding the riding tactics adopted on BOY BARRY. K. Gates explained that her instructions were to have BOY BARRY up close to the lead as the horse had shown speed in its past barrier trials. K. Gates added that the gelding began well however did not have enough speed to go with the leading group. She further added that the gelding was having its first start and raced greenly for the majority of the race and was held up for clear running resulting in her having to alter course leaving the 200m.
