Race 1: Hillgrove Class A Handicap – 1000 Metres:
1st – Dawida Danseur 2nd – As Sweet As Candy 3rd – Such A Prince 4th – Danish Liner

After winning race 1 yesterday, 24 September 2010 DAWIDA DANSEUR was penalised 2 kilograms and carried 58 Kilograms.

VANCOUVER SOUND which broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained, and returned to the barriers were it was cleared to take its place in the event.

FREE LAD (A. Coome) began awkwardly.

VANCOUVER SOUND bled from the near side nostril. Trainer O. Cairns was advised that VANCOUVER SOUND must perform in a 1000m gallop to the satisfaction of stewards before the mare would be permitted to race again.


Race 2: Bluewater Class 4 Handicap - 1000 metres:
1st – Straight A Student 2nd – Youthful Jet 3rd – Da Fazz 4th – Star Revundo

Trainer J. Barr sought permission to remove the tongue tie and add a tongue control bit to STAR REVUNDO and to remove the blinkers from FAIRLADY after both horses competed at Ewan yesterday, 24 September 2010. Permission was granted to make the required gear changes and a public announcement was made to this effect.

YOUTHFUL JET (A. Coome) and DEMOS (P. Cullen) were both slow to begin.

STRAIGHT A STUDENT (A. Merritt) and STAR REVUNDO (D. Missen) both raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m DEMOS had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of MORE LIPS (J. Long) which sifted in momentarily.

Near the 250m STRAIGHT A STUDENT had to be steadied when tightened for room between FAIRLADY (D. Simmons) and STAR REVUNDO both of which shifted ground.

Race 3: Ewan Memorial Shield Open Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – Canny Shuffle 2nd – Repeat Offender 3rd – Master Trader 4th – Centgeorge

After winning race 4 yesterday, 24 September 2010 REPEAT OFFENDER was penalised 1.5 kilograms and carried 60.5 kilograms.

No racing incidents.

Race 4: Peter Mitchell Memorial Class 2 Handicap QTIS Added Stakes Handicap – 1300 metres:
1st – Moubassin 2nd – I’m Hot 3rd – Any Good 4th – Pizzicato

After winning race 3 yesterday, 24 September 2010, PERSIAN ARROW was penalised 2 kilograms and carried 58 kilograms.

D. Simmons replaced A. Merrit as the rider of NANNYGAI.

UMHLANGA ROCKS (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.

Upon returning to scale Jockey T. Bannon, the rider of second past the post I’M HOT, requested to view the official print for 1st place. After viewing the official print Jockey Bannon was satisfied that I’M HOT had in fact finished second by a nose margin and subsequently correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge.

M. Elliott the rider of SHE’S RUSHIN reported that near the 450m the mare began to feel awkward in its action and as such he elected to ease SHE’S RUSHIN out of the event. A post race veterinary examination of SHE’S RUSHIN revealed the mare to be slightly tied up and exhibiting signs of a slower than normal recovery rate. Stable foreman B. Williams was advised that a veterinary certificate of clearance would be required for SHE’S RUSHIN before the mare would be permitted to race again.

Race 5: Landmark Ewan Cup Class 6 Handicap – 1600 metres:
1st – Money Bunney 2nd – Napper Tandy 3rd – Mad Music 4th – Dream Warrior

After winning race 5 yesterday 24 September 2010 MAD MUSIC was penalised 2 kilograms and carried 60 kilograms.

Shortly after the start MONZAR (M. Atkinson) began to buck and continued to do so for some distance and as a result was eased out of the event. Trainer R. Kirkwood was advised that MONZAR would be required to trial before the gelding would be permitted to race again.
