Race 1: Master Hire Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate 860m
1st – Rob the Vault 2nd – Liadain 3rd – Miss Marburg 4th – Beesnest
The start of this race was delayed when PLACID HOST (D. Sparks) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer L. Richardson was advised that a warning would be placed on the prerace manners of the filly.
BEESNEST (J. Johnson) and ROB THE VAULT (L. Williams) bumped at the start.
LIADAIN (N. Tomizawa) and MISS MARBURG (L. Appo) were slow to begin.
MISS AQUALON (M. McKenzie) raced wide throughout.
SWEET SWEET LOVE (A. Hearn) was held up for clear running approaching the home turn and again momentarily near the 200m.
LIADAIN laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
When asked to explain the seemingly disappointing performance of HEART OF MAGIC, S. Bayliss stated that the mare began well, however was under pressure a short distance later and, in his opinion did not handle today’s track conditions.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of PLACID HOST, D. Sparks stated that the filly was very stirred up today and was difficult to ride when proceeding to the barriers and raced greenly throughout the event. Trainer L. Richardson was at a loss to explain the performance as the filly had trialled well previously but agreed that PLACID HOST was very stirred up today. He added that he would look to trial the filly prior to racing over a further distance than today’s race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2: Power Crank Batteries Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 860m
1st – Earwigg 2nd – Trophy Hunter 3rd – Sir William 4th – Double Play
Trainer R. Thies was reminded of his obligations regarding the incomplete details on the stable return of HEY MURRIE.
HEY MURRIE (C. Eaton) was slow to begin and lost ground.
DR HOUSE (L. Williams) and MISSAMORK (L. Appo) bumped at the start.
DR HOUSE and MISSAMORK raced wide throughout.
After the running of this race, stewards upgraded the track rating to Dead 5.
Race 3: Gatton Tyre Service Class B Handicap 1100m
1st – Marc the Magpie 2nd – Roman Waters 3rd – Mann Magic 4th – Heart of My Heart
On return to scale A. Hearn reported STAND’N’STARE raced ungenerously in the middle stages and may have got its tongue over the bit.
STAND’N’STARE (A. Hearn) was slow to begin.
At the start SHOW PEACE (L. Williams) shifted out and bumped MANN MAGIC (L. Finlay) which shifted out and hampered MARC THE MAGPIE (L. Appo).
Approaching the 700m, STAND’N’STARE commenced to over race and improved into a narrow run between HEAVENS OWN and KEWAY resulting in KEWAY being tightened for room and being checked, blundering and losing ground. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards while being mindful of the racing characteristics of STAND’N’STARE were unable to apportion blame for this incident on any one rider. Stewards will advise trainer R. Macrae that an official warning will be placed on the racing manners of STAND’N’STARE.
SERAPH’S FANTASY (N. Tomizawa), ZATSACAT (B. Abbey) and ROMAN WATERS (B. Powell) raced wide throughout.
MANN MAGIC hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight resulting in the rider having to stop riding and straighten on two occasions. Trainer T. Dougall will be advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of MANN MAGIC.
K. Yoshida the rider of KEWAY stated that after suffering interference leaving the 700m his mount took no competitive part in the remainder of the race. A post race Veterinary examination of KEWAY failed to reveal any abnormalities. KEWAY lost the off fore plate in running.
Race 4: Crime Stoppers Class 4 Handicap 1100m
1st – Innocent Jack 2nd – Syrian Lioness 3rd – Dalingi 4th – Cauldron
Trainer G. Cornish was fined $100 for the late declaration of rider for RED MOHICAN.
GOLD LAND (M. McKenzie) was slow to begin.
At the start RED MOHICAN (L. Williams) was steadied and lost ground when tightened for room between GOA (D. McMaster) and MUFFET (L. Appo) when both horses shifted ground.
Shortly after the start DALINGI shifted out and bumped AKERMAGIC (B. Powell) which became unbalanced.
Near 900m MUFFET raced in restricted room for a short distance between GOA and SPIRIT AT SEA (N. Tomizawa) when both runners shifted ground.
GOA and HONOUR GUARD raced wide throughout.
SYRIAN LIONESS laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
D. McMaster the rider of GOA stated that the gelding hung in for the majority of the race and in her opinion did not feel comfortable on today’s track condition. She added that being obliged to race wide also had a bearing on today’s performance.
Jockey L. Williams the rider of RED MOHICAN reported that after being tightened for room at the start the gelding raced further back in the field than anticipated. He added RED MOHICAN finished the race off well under hands and heels as he was advised by the trainer that gelding does not appreciate being pressured by the whip.
Race 5: Falken Tyres Class 2 Handicap 1600m
1st – Gold Record 2nd – Currawee Lass 3rd – Oakfield Babe 4th – Ocean Outlaw
Trainer B. Hudson was fined $100 for presenting EXTRAVAGANT MISS to race without a nose roll which is part of the approved gear for that mare. As this gear was not available at the time, stewards permitted EXTRAVAGANT MISS to race without a nose roll, a public address was made to this affect.
Correct weight was delayed to establish if NOELA’S ROMP (S. Richardson) which missed the start by a considerable margin (30L) had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from rider S. Richardson and starter Mr R. McIntosh and viewing the official footage, it was established that when the start was affected, NOELA’S ROMP refused to jump with the field and stood in the gates. Stewards therefore confirmed NOELA’S ROMP a starter and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers. Trainer D. Gollan was advised that NOELA’S ROMP would be required to officially trial to the steward’s satisfaction before being permitted to start again.
Near the 1300m EXTRAVAGANT MISS (R. Ride) when being steadied to obtain running behind SUPER SAMAURAI (B. Powell) commenced to race ungenerously with its head in the air resulting in OCEAN OUTLAW (C. Eaton) which was following having to be steadied away from that runners heels, CURRAWEE LASS which was following OCEAN OUTLAW shifted away from that runners heels and hampered OAKFIELD BABE (L. Appo). Stewards advised trainer B. Hudson that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of EXTRAVAGANT MISS which also laid in under pressure in the home straight.
NOELA’S ROMP raced wide leaving the 1000m.
EXTRAVAGANT MISS laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride.
Stewards intend to interview jockey S. Richardson regarding him leaving the track without seeking the permission of stewards.
