SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
From Gatton 26.05.12
Race 3 - Trainer W. Nugent reported that KEWAY had pulled up with a haematoma behind the off hind fetlock. He was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required for KEWAY before racing again.
As Apprentice A. Smith was injured and B. Appo was ill, rider replacements were made as per the steward’s summary.
Race 1: XXXX Gold Maiden Plate 1400m
1st – Heavenly Heights 2nd – No Hoops 3rd – Soaring Angel 4th – Marked Affair
Stewards accepted the explanation for C. Maund being declared as the rider of SOARING ANGEL when not being able to make the weight.
HYDRAULICS (N. Yamada) was slow to begin.
At the start ASCIANO (J. Hoopert) was tightened for room between NO HOOPS (L. Appo) and OUT TO SEADANCER (K. Gates) when both runners shifted ground.
S. Apthorpe the rider of LORD BRAVINGER pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1200m when insufficiently clear of RIVER DANCING (A. Hearn), resulting in RIVER DANCING being checked and taken in tightening the running of OUT TO SEADANCER which also had to be checked and lost ground. S. Apthorpe’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight 2 June up to and including 11 June 2012.
Near the 1000m HEAVENLY HEIGHTS (S. Bogenhuber) shifted in and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.
LORD BRAVINGER, OZICROWN (J.McKinnon) and ROREVER YOURS (K. Yoshida) raced wide throughout.
Near the 200m SHESASTAD (L. Williams) shifted out abruptly under pressure.
K. Yoshida the rider of FOREVER YOURS which weakened from the 600m stated that he was obliged to race extremely wide throughout and while the horse didn’t feel comfortable on today’s track conditions he felt the mare failed to run out the distance of today’s event.
A post race veterinary examination of ASCIANO revealed the entire had bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer G. Walters will be advised that as this was the second occasion that ASCIANO had suffered a bleeding attack that the horse would now incur a lifetime bar from racing.
K. Gates was dislodged from OUT TO SEADANCER on pulling up. K. Gates was examined by Ambulance Officers and subsequently stood down for the remainder of the day. Rider replacements were made as per the race day summary.
Race 2: Dulux Australia QTIS Maiden Plate 1100m
1st – Steel To The Heel 2nd – Bom Chicka Wah Wah 3rd – Exquisite Diamond 4th – Fairglase
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer P. Overall for the late declaration of C. Eaton as the rider of STEEL TO THE HEEL.
The start of this race was delayed when FOOTROT FLATS was required to be re saddled.
FAIRGLASE (D. Robinson) began awkwardly.
FOOTROT FLATS was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start DOUBLE ROSE (A. Taylor) lost ground when checked from the heels of MIRDESZOV (N.Tomizawa) which despite the efforts of the rider shifted in and away from MISS TIPI (R. Goltz) which was initially taken in slightly by BOOM CHICKA WAH WAH (J. Hoopert).
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for EXQUISITE DIAMOND being steadied Near the 860m.
Leaving the 800m EXQUISITE DIAMOND when over racing, improved onto the heels of STEEL TO THE HEEL, shifted out and made heavy contact with MISS TIPI resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced, a short distance later while racing ungenerously with its head in the air, EXQUISITE DIAMOND again shifted out and made contact with MISS TIPI, becoming unbalanced and shifting in and having to be checked from the heels of STEEL TO THE HEEL.
Near the 600m EXQUISITE DIAMOND shifted out and wad steadied from the heels of MISS TIPI.
L. Appo the rider of FEROCIOUS DIVA reported his mount failed to handle today’s track conditions.
Apprentice B. Richardson was fined the sum of $300 for failing to weigh in on third placegetter EXQUISITE DIAMOND. Acting under the provisions of AR144, stewards were satisfied that EXQUISITE DIAMOND carried its allotted weight and therefore correct weight was given on the judge’s placing’s.
N. Tomizawa the rider of MIRDESZOV stated that it was his intention to use the good barrier and settle in a forward position however the horse did not handle todays track conditions. When interviewed, trainer M. Goodwin stated that the gelding had won a jump out recently at Toowoomba and had been working well. He added that after a long break from racing the horse may not have appreciated todays track conditions.
Race 3: ACS Equine Class 3 Handicap 1100m
1st –Sequalo Gold 2nd – Red Mohican 3rd – O’Bro 4th – Stay Put
Stewards permitted M. Abe to ride 0.5 kg over the allotted weight of PERFECT DAYS.
At the start RED MOHICAN (S. Drake), MONASHEE GOLD (R. Hancock) and SYRIAN LIONESS (J. Johnson) were all tightened for room between STAY PUT (T. Sergeant) and SEQUALO GOLD (G. Goold) which shifted in, SYRIAN LIONESS subsequently lost ground as a result.
WIGPOOL (C. Maund) was slow to begin.
COBALT BLUE (N. Tomizawa) and SHADY OUTFIT (L. Finlay) began awkwardly.
Near the 700m RED MOHICAN when over racing was steadied from the heels of STAY PUT.
SHADY OUTFIT, PERFECT DAYS, SHUMIE GO (D. Robinson) raced wide throughout.
PERFECT DAYS was held up for clear running from the 200m until near the 100m.
A post race veterinary examination of STAY PUT revealed the entire had bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer T. Sears was advised that STAY PUT would now incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing, followed by a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
Apprentice T. Serjeant was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on fourth placegetter STAY PUT. In assessing penalty stewards took into consideration some mitigating circumstances.
Apprentice J. Johnson was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on fifth placegetter SYRIAN LIONESS.
Race 4: Mulgowie Hotel Gatton Cup Open Handicap 2000m
1st – Carn 2nd – Famous Fortune 3rd – Mada 4th – Step Forward
JOHNNY AUCASH hung out making the first turn out of the straight and near the 1100m turn hung out and had to be steadied from the heels of CARN.
CARN shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.
When asked to comment on the seemingly disappointing performance of JOHNNY AUCASH, C. Eaton stated the gelding was not comfortable on today’s track conditions was inclined to hang out for a majority of the race proving difficult to ride. Trainer S. Andrew will be advised that at warning will be placed on the racing manners of JOHNNY AUCASH.
Race 5: Supa IGA Class 1 Handicap (1) 860m
1st – All Is Gold 2nd – Rockin’ Rees 3rd – Terms 4th – Master Foreshore
Stewards declared BETTER OPTION a late scratching at 8.20 am after receiving a confirmed telephone call from trainer E. Hayes that the gelding was lame in the near hind leg. E. Hayes was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required for BETTER OPTION before racing again.
Stewards ordered the withdrawal of RAKU TU at 1.25 pm on veterinary advice after the filly was inspected on arrival at the track and found to have reinjured an old wound on the off hind hock which was bleeding heavily and unable to be adequately treated.
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of MASTER FORESHORE to view the official photo to for third. After viewing the print connections were satisfied that MASTER FORESHORE had finished fourth and correct weight was declared.
ALL IS GOLD (R. Goltz) and JITTER JUICE (G. Geran) were slow to begin.
Near the 700m HEART OF MY HEART (J. Letherby) shifted in and was checked from the heels of MASTER FORESHORE (J. Johnson) which shifted out slightly.
J. Letherby the rider of HEART OF MY HEART, which performed below market expectations, stated that the filly travelled well until the 400m, however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post race veterinary examination revealed HEART OF MY HEART to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer D. Tunnah was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required before HEART OF MY HEART raced again.
G. Geran the rider of JITTER JUICE, which performed below market expectations, stated that the mare was off the bit and chasing after being slow to begin which in he believed was a disadvantage over the 860m. He added that JITTER JUICE which was coming off a spell and in his opinion would be suited to a firmer track and being able to lead as the horse has been successful in the past when racing in this pattern. Trainer J. McMahon agreed with the rider’s assessment. A post race veterinary examination of JITTER JUICE failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Jockey R. Hancock, rider of fifth placed MUNSTER PROVINCE, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b), in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. In considering penalty, stewards were of the opinion that R. Hancock’s actions had cost his mount fourth place. R. Hancock was fined $300.
Prior to and during this race a heavy shower passed over the track. Stewards downgraded the track rating to a Heavy 8 retrospectively to include this race.
Race 6: Gatton Tyre Service Class 1 Handicap (2) 860m
1st – Rahula 2nd – Who Cares Wins 3rd – Kassmer 4th – Little Rip Snorter
Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of AUTHORITATIVE (T. Serjeant) at 3.20 pm after the mare took fright at another runner in the enclosure and reared over making heaving contact with ground. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on AUTHORITATIVE be refunded, and that the following deductions be made to the face value of all winning tickets

R. Maund, the trainer of AUTHORITATIVE, was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to being permitted to race again.
Shortly after the start WHO CARES WINS (R. Hancock) shifted in and bumped EASE ON BY (S. Drake) which became unbalanced.
LITTLE RIP SNORTER (A. Hearn) and JOYTIME (W. O’Connell) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Cooks Transport Class B Handicap 1600m
1st – Bach 2nd – Sell the Silver 3rd – Crown News 4th – Currawee Lass
LUNAR CYCLE (L. Finlay) and CROWN NEWS (T. Banks) were slow to begin.
Leaving the 900m SELL THE SILVER was steadied when crowded for room by EXPLORER CLUB (G. Geran) which was taken in slightly by TOBORAIGH STAR (J. Johnson). Apprentice J. Johnson was advised to exercise care.
LUNAR CYCLE, EXPLORER CLUB and TOBORAIGH STAR raced wide for a majority of the race.
SELL THE SILVER was held up for clear running from the 500m until approaching the 400m.
CURRAWEE LASS (N. Yamada) shifted out under pressure leaving the 200m resulting in the rider having to stop riding and straighten.
Apprentice R. Ride was reprimanded for permitting BACH to shift out from rounding the home turn until the finish of the race which resulted in BACH shifting a significant amount of ground outwards.
When interviewed regarding the improved performance of BACH, trainer J. Phillips stated that at the most recent run he was of an opinion that the gelding had failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. He added that he had routine blood samples taken from BACH however these had failed to reveal any abnormalities. He further added that BACH had performed well two starts back at Dalby on 6 May and had worked well leading into today’s race and that he was confident of a good performance today.
