Race 1: Hair With Soul Maiden Plate 1100m
1st – Beaudette 2nd - Glazy 3rd – Square Peg 4th – Italian Rose

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by C. Eaton for being dual engaged on OUZO AND ICE and LIGHTNING JAKE. L. Appo was declared the rider for OUZO AND ICE.

A pre-race veterinary examination of DUSTY’S SON (S. Drake), which was having its first start since September 2010, passed the gelding to race.

ANNEKE (C. Kearney), DANZ ART (B. Newport) and OUZO AND ICE and were slow to begin.

ITALIAN ROSE (M. O’Brien) jumped awkwardly and shifted out.

Shortly after the start, SQUARE PEG (M. Crawford) and STAR SEQUALO (K. Yoshida) bumped resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

Near the 850m DUSTY'S SON was steadied when BEAUDETTE (W. O’Connell) shifted in slightly.

DANZ ART hung out leaving the 600m and when placed under pressure in the home straight, again hung out placing B. Newport at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. Trainer B. Hudson was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the mare.

Race 2: Elders Gatton Maiden Plate 1400m
1st – No Hoops 2nd – Rip Rip Woodchip 3rd – Dodgy Cat 4th – Butterscotch

BUTTERSCOTCH (B. Newport) was slow to begin.

RIP RIP WOODCHIP (S. Drake) over raced in the early stages.

BUTTERSCOTCH shifted in abruptly under pressure leaving the 200m.

S. Drake, the rider of RIP RIP WOODCHIP, reported at scale that her mount over raced in the early stages and despite her efforts, she was unable to restrain the gelding and raced in a position behind the leader NO HOOPS.

Apprentice B. Newport, the rider of BUTTERSCOTCH, stated that his mount over raced in the early stages and raced in a three wide position until near the 1000m where he was able to settle his mount and obtain a position behind the leaders.

Race 3: Muckerts Sawmill Laidley Class B Handicap 1400m
1st – Pukekura Boy 2nd – Fortuitous Blade 3rd – Sir Joel 4th – Scotch Rocket

On arrival at the barriers OUT OF CHARACTER (L. Tarrant) and FRAYED (L. Appo) underwent a veterinary examination after being kicked by another runner and subsequently were both passed to race.

FRAYED was slow to begin.

Leaving the 1000m SIR JOEL (S. Bogenhuber) had to be checked when racing in restricted room between FORTUITOUS BLADE (K. Yoshida) and FRAYED.

MIRROR MAN (B. Derbyshire), TENT HARMONY (I. Coombes) and OUT OF CHARACTER raced wide throughout.

SIR JOEL hung in under pressure in the straight which necessitated the rider having to stop riding and straighten on two occasions.

FORTUITOUS BLADE shifted out under pressure approaching the finish line.

MIRROR MAN suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Trainer K. Munce was advised that the gelding will incur a mandatory three (3) month ban from racing and be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward before being permitted to race again.

I. Coombes, the rider of TENT HARMONY, which weakened from the 800m and finshed a distant last, explained that he was obliged to race wide and that the colt never handled the prevailing track conditions. Stewards will interview trainer R. Smith regarding the performance of TENT CITY. A post-race veterinary examination of TENT CITY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: Ozlav Plumbing Class 3 Plate 1100m
1st – Lion Beauty 2nd – Persian Story 3rd - Zakato 4th – Fiery Lad

A pre-race veterinary examination of ZAKATO (W. O’Connell), which was having its first start since September 2010, passed the mare to race.

SWEET HUSSEY (N. Nishio) and FIERY LAD (R. Goltz) were tightened for room at the start between LION BEAUTY (K. Yoshida) and ZAKATO which shifted in.

MONASHEE GOLD (R. Hancock) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice R. Mercer, the rider of MARC THE MAGPIE, explained that the gelding travelled well until leaving the 800m when her mount relaxed resulting in her losing some ground at that point. She added that MARC THE MAGPIE responded to the pressure she applied from the 600m and finished the race off well. Stewards accepted the explanation.

Race 5: Schultes Meat Tavern Class 2 860m
1st – All Is Gold 2nd – Red Suit 3rd – Miss Condy 4th – All But Grey

A pre-race veterinary examination of MISS CONDY (R. Mercer), which was having its first start since August 2011, passed the mare to race.
