Race 1: FRESHWAYZ TRANSPORT QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M

The start was delayed when SELFIE (S. Fawke), which was fractious, was subsequently removed from the barriers to undergo a veterinary examination. On the advice of the veterinary surgeon, SELFIE was declared a late scratching at 1.34 pm. Trainer M. Frappell was advised that SELFIE must obtain a further barrier certificate before racing again. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SELFIE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

5 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
9 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
6 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1

Correct weight was delayed to afford N. Tomizawa, the rider of 2nd placegetter ELLIE BELLE, the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner COURT COUTURE (K. Yoshida). After viewing the video, N. Tomizawa indicated that he did not wish to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.

FELTON PHANTOM (A. Fancourt), CANID (M. Hellyer) and CLANGORANDA (S. Drake) were all slow to begin.

COURT COUTURE began awkwardly.

Near the 700m PRINCESS DAT (S. Bogenhuber) became awkward on the heels of ELLIE BELLE for a short distance.

When questioned as to her riding of CLANGORANDA over the final 400m, Jockey S. Drake stated that she was held up for clear running from the 400m to the 300m and then was unable to place CLANGORANDA under pressure in the home straight as the gelding raced very greenly. Stewards will question trainer G. Cornish in the presence of Jockey Drake at a later date.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of DORSAL FIN, apprentice M. Vance expressed her disappointment in the performance, however was unable to offer any explanation. Trainer T Gollan was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance except to say that DORSAL FIN raced flat today compared with its last start 2nd at Kilcoy. Mr Gollan advised Stewards that he had an endoscopic examination performed on DORSAL FIN when it returned to his stables following the race, which failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post-race veterinary examination of DORSAL FIN failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2: MERLO DOWNS STUD BM79 H’CAP – 1400M

Trainer R. Cole was fined $100 for failing to declare S. Fawke as the rider of TROPHY HEAD by the prescribed time.

As J. Morris was indisposed for personal reasons, S. Drake was substituted as the rider of DARTH.

TROPHY HEAD (S. Fawke) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HE IS LOYAL (B. Appo) which was slow to begin.

ALBION (N. Evans) laid in under pressure from a point leaving the 400m and continued to do so for the majority of the home straight.

N. Evans reported that ALBION began awkwardly and then overraced for some distance rounding the turn near the 1100m.

Race 3: WARD MELDRUM PLUMBING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 860M

MIM (J. Orman) began awkwardly and raced wide throughout.

DAILY PLANET (S. Fawke) was slow to begin.

HALF A HERO (A. Merritt) hung out rounding the 700m turn and again rounding the home turn.

Near the 600m TIGER TALES (S. Bogenhuber) shifted out and away from CARDWELL (S. Apthorpe), making heavy contact with MIM, which became unbalanced.

TIGER TALES raced wide throughout.

TIGER TALES laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 4: THE BEAUTY SPOT MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

LIDO (A. Best), CARNCOTTON (S. Apthorpe), BAMBOO HOUSE (S. Payne) and SNIP ‘N’ SNORT (R. Ride) all began awkwardly and lost ground.

PRIDE OF BONGO (J. Orman), which raced greenly throughout the entire event, shifted out shortly after the start and bumped OUTBACK ELLIE (S. Drake), causing both horses to become unbalanced and lose ground at that point of the race. Trainer J. Marlow will be advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of PRIDE OF BONGO.

Near the 1000m EXCEPTION (K. Matheson) had to be steadied from the heels of PRIDE OF BONGO which shifted in whilst racing greenly.

D. McIntosh, the rider of CREDIT MISS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 900m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RAVE ON (V. Venkaya), which in turn was taken in on to GETTIN’JIGGYWITHIT (T. Wolfgram), resulting in apprentice T. Wolfgram having to check his mount, which lost ground at that point of the race. D. McIntosh’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday 27 October and expire at midnight on Sunday 3 November 2013.

LIDO hung out for the majority of the race and as a result failed to be competitive. A warning was placed on the racing manners of LIDO. Trainer N. Saunders advised that LIDO would be sent for an immediate spell.

OUTBACK ELLIE raced greenly throughout and failed to be competitive. A warning was placed on the racing manners of OUTBACK ELLIE.

Near the 500m GETTING’JIGGYWITHIT improved on to the heels of RAVE ON and had to be steadied for some distance.

GETTIN’JIGGYWITHIT was inclined to lay in behind the heels of BAMBOO HOUSE in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 5: LOCKYER PRINTING CLASS 3 PLATE – 1100M

The start of this race was delayed when ALL OUR WIVES (M. Hellyer) proved difficult to load.

Correct weight was delayed to afford apprentice C. Schmidt, the rider of 2nd placegetter EMBRAER, the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage to ascertain whether she had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner GREAT TOUCH (N. Evans) After viewing the video, Apprentice Schmidt indicated that she did not wish to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.

THAT’S JERRY (S. Payne) shifted in at the start and bumped EMBRAER.

ANTIPHONS (G. Geran) and LA TAR LAD (T. Wolfgram) both began awkwardly.

ELLO ELLO (A. Fancourt) was slow to begin.

Near the 700m, when being steadied away from the heels of GREAT TOUCH (N. Evans), THAT’S JERRY shifted in, tightening the running of EMBRAER, which had to be steadied. Shortly thereafter THAT’S JERRY shifted out abruptly and hampered ALL OUR WIVES.

Near the 650m EMBRAER had to be steadied from the heels of GREAT TOUCH.

OPTIONALITY (R. Ride), ANTIPHONS and NIGHT CHILLS (I. French) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Apprentice J. Orman, the rider of RED SUIT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that from leaving the 300m until approaching the 100m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of EMBRAER, which had obtained a run to the outside of RED SUIT at the entrance to the straight, resulting in EMBRAER being tightened for room between GREAT TOUCH and RED SUIT near the 250m and having to be steadied, and further resulting in EMBRAER being tightened for room between those runners approaching the 100m, having to be checked and shift to the inside of RED SUIT to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. Apprentice Orman’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday 27 October and expire at midnight on Sunday 3 November 2013. As a result of the interference suffered by EMBRAER between the 250m and the 100m, apprentice Schmidt was unable to fully test EMBRAER in that section of the race. RED SUIT continued to shift out over the concluding stages of the race and bumped GREAT TOUCH.

A post-race veterinary examination of GREAT TOUCH (N. Evans) revealed the filly to have been galloped on on both hind legs.

Stewards opened an inquiry into apprentice I. French’s riding of NIGHT CHILLS. After taking initial evidence from apprentice French, the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.

Following this event apprentice R. Ride was examined by ambulance officers and stood down from her remaining engagement in Race 6.

Race 6: GAVIN LINNAN FINANCE GROUP CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1400M

Stewards will interview trainer B. Tattam regarding the late scratching of CRAFTY’S LAST at 8.05 am.

Apprentice S. Payne was substituted as the rider of DIE YOUNG after apprentice R. Ride was stood down after her ride in the previous race.

On return to scale B. Currie, the trainer of DIE YOUNG (S. Payne), placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against KYEBLEAH (M. Crawford) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties Stewards found that leaving the 100m KYEBLEAH did shift in resulting in DIE YOUNG being buffeted on to the running rail, and as stewards believed that the extent of the interference suffered by DIE YOUNG exceeded the nose margin separating both horses at the finish, the protest was upheld and correct weight was declared on the amended placings of 8, 13, 14 and 1. At a subsequent inquiry, M. Crawford was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he allowed KYEBLEAH to shift in whilst being ridden along from a point leaving the 100m when insufficiently clear of DIE YOUNG, resulting in DIE YOUNG being buffeted for room, inconvenienced and losing ground as a result. Jockey Crawford’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Tuesday 22 October and expire at midnight on Sunday 27 October 2013.

SIR BLAZE (S. Drake) blundered as the start was effected and lost ground.

BEAU BOY (G. Geran), ROCKLEA RAIDER (S. Apthorpe), TOBORAIGH STAR (M. Hellyer) and KURRAJONG DRAGON (T. Banks) were slow to begin.

STAND’N’STARE (B. Newport), ROCKLEA RAIDER and DEKARNAGE (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

PISMO BEACH (A. Holt), which was weakening, hung out rounding the home turn, forcing STAND’N’STARE wider.

Upon returning to scale A. Pattillo reported that DEKARNAGE did not feel comfortable in its action and as such he elected to ease the horse out of the race in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of DEKARNAGE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer R. Drysdale noted that DEKARNAGE was forced to race wide for the majority of the race, which contributed to the disappointing performance. Mr Drysdale added that he had recently changed stables, which may have resulted in the horse missing some work leading into the race. Mr Drysdale undertook to restrict DEKARNAGE to a country meeting at its next start before reconsidering its current racing preparation.

Upon returning to scale B. Newport reported that STAND’N’STARE was inclined to lay in in the middle stages of the race.

Race 7: FLEETWRIGHT BM65 H’CAP – 1600M

Trainer D. Murphy was fined $100 for failing to declare A. Holt as the rider of SAVEEDA by the prescribed time.

RUN JAKE RUN (S. Drake), MY MIRAGE (M. Hellyer) and TIZ COREY (A. Merritt) were slow to begin.

RED CENTURION (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

OUR GRAND FINALE (A. Best) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 600m BREANNON (S. Payne) had to be steadied and lost ground when attempting to improve into a run where there was doubtful room between MAJOR SHOWDOWN (N. Evans) and OUTBACK GRANDE (S. Bogenhuber). BREANNON was then held up for a considerable distance.

Near the 300m RED CENTURION which was weakening, had to be steadied when tightened for room between MY MIRAGE (M. Hellyer), which shifted out marginally, and SPINADA (T. Wolfgram), which shifted in and away from MAJOR SHOWDOWN, which also shifted in at that point. N. Evans was reprimanded.

RUN JAKE RUN was held up in the early stages of the home straight.

Over the concluding stages MY MIRAGE had to be steadied when tightened for room between SAVEEDA (A. Holt) and SPINADA (T. Wolfgram), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

RUN JAKE RUN had to be steadied over the concluding stages when tightened for room to the inside of SAVEEDA.

A post-race veterinary examination of RED CENTURION, which compounded from a point leaving the 500m failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer G. Pollock advised Stewards that RED CENTURION would be retired from racing following today’s disappointing performance.
