RACE 1 – SOMETHING FOR KATE HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
Trainer B. GUY was fined $50.00 for nominating SUGAR RAIN in this particular race for which it was found to be ineligible.
On jumping CALLED IT ANYTHING shifted in abruptly causing severe crowding to PETE’S REVENGE and CIVIC LEADER.
Shortly after the start ADAMMUP was eased when crowded for room between GAUDEAMUS and FRED’S LOVE which was taken out slightly by INEVITABLE.
Leaving the 1100 metres FRED’S LOVE commenced to race greenly got its head up in the air and lost ground.
Near the 1000 metres CALLED IT ANYTHING shifted in momentarily causing INEVITABLE to shift in which resulted in KADDAMINDI being checked. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken bearing in mind the racing manners of CALLED IT ANYTHING which was racing greenly at the time.
Inside the 300 metres J. POLLARD (ADAMMUP) dropped his whip.
Approaching the 200 metres IMPOSITION shifted out to improve inconveniencing INEVITABLE and CALLED IT ANYTHING.
RACE 2 – SOUNDTRACK VOLUME 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
Registered Stablehand J. Halpin was found guilty of a charge under AR8(e) for failing to obey a proper direction of an official when parading COSMIC BANDIT in the mounting enclosure prior to the race. He was fined the sum of $100.00
When questioned regarding the manner in which MALTESE PAPIA was ridden today M. TRAECEY explained that he was instructed to ride his mount back in the race owing to his wide barrier draw. He said that in the early stages his mount had a tendency to hang out therefore, was unable to put his mount under any pressure and that the horse was reluctant to race any closer than three to four horses away from the inside fence. He said that leaving the 500 metres he commenced to put his mount under pressure however, for a major part of the home straight he was unable to improve when held up for clear running. Trainer J. McCarter confirmed the instructions and indicated that the gelding would be better suited over races of a longer distance in accordance with its breeding. He also indicated that he would suggest to the owners that MALTESE PAPIA would now be sent for a spell. A Veterinary examination of MALTESE PAPIA revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Inside the 800 metres FRENCH TYPHOON had to be eased to avoid the heels of ROSE OF BYRON which shifted in when not quite clear. L. HILL (ROSE OF BYRON) was reminded of his obligations.
RACE 3 – FINKLER HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
KISS ME jumped awkwardly.
RANSOM NOTE shifted out abruptly at the start crowding SNAPPY AFFAIR and inconveniencing RAW INSTINCT.
KISS ME was obliged to race wide throughout the race.
RACE 4 – THE SOFT MACHINE HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
Trainer M. Tremble was fined $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for LUCKY OMEN by the prescribed time.
TURBULENT WIND which became fractious in the barriers was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
RACE 5 – TAPPA HANDICAP – 900 METRES
Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for HUGE by the prescribed time.
Shortly after the start MARVELLE ADELE shifted out and hampered HE’S A TREASURE.
RACE 6 – GOLD COAST TRANSPORT HANDICAP – 2200 METRES
In the early and middle stages of the race YALLAH’S GIFT overraced.
The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that ALL IN RHYTHM sustained a laceration to the off fore leg during the race.
RACE 7 – THE EDGE HANDICAP – 1800 METRES
NEW SHOES which was fractious in the barriers was slow away.
On jumping MY FRIENDS jumped in and made contact with TITIVATE.
When questioned regarding the manner in which MAGICO was ridden today K. POPE said he was advised by Trainer L.K. Tinsley that the gelding had a habit of not jumping away cleanly therefore, when the start was effected he rode his mount along early. He said as a result of this MAGICO commenced to overrace and as much as he tried to steady his mount he was unable to do so when it continued to shift in and made contact with the running rail. His explanation was noted.
RACE 8 – GEORGE HANDICAP – 1300 METRES
Due to a communication breakdown between Trainer P. Moody and Club officials D. WALSH relinquished his ride on DANEGOLD due to commitments at the Brisbane Turf Club meeting. When this matter came to the Stewards’ attention the late replacement rider was notified that being B. SWANTON. Stewards will question Trainer P. Moody at a later date regarding the matter.
As T. DUCKETT was overweight C. SMALL was substituted as the rider of FRENCH TOAST. T. DUCKETT was fined $50.00 under AR120(b) for accepting a ride when found to be overweight.
FRENCH TOAST jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000 metres OGANARA shifted in momentarily causing some crowding to CENTENARY HEIGHTS and also HARMONY ROAD. M. PRIVATO (OGANARA) was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
DANEGOLD was obliged to race wide throughout.
Inside the final 200 metres ERINTEL shifted out under pressure whilst being ridden along with the whip and as a result carried FRENCH TOAST out slightly and CAMAGIFI which was following had to be eased to avoid its heels. L. HILL (ERINTEL) was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount.
S. MORRISON (HARMONY ROAD) was fined $50.00 for returning to scale in excess of one-half kilo over his declared weight.
RACE 9 – SOMETHING FOR KATE WELTER – 1200 METRES
On jumping and for a short distance afterwards DAPPLES and BLACK SAILS was crowded for room between BROOKLET BOY which shifted out slightly and JIMBOOMBA JACK which had an inclination to lay in.
