STEWARDS’ MR T BAILEY (CHAIRMAN), MR J HAIGH, MR J GRAHAM,
PANEL: MR D TAPSALL and MR M TUTT (CADET)
RACE 1 – JIM BEAM (TWO-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
APP. S MORRIS was fined $50 for failing to claim his allowance down to his allocated riding weight.
EVERGREEN TERRACE shifted out abruptly on jumping hampering MIGHTY GALLOP and SEMISYR.
After shifting in slightly at the start STYLISH AMBER then shifted out making contact with AMPLIFIED.
For some distance passing the 1,000 metres SEMISYR pulled hard when being restrained off the heels of MIGHTY GALLOP.
On entering the home straight CHARGAL had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SEMISYR which shifted out.
At no stage inside the final 200 metres was EVERGREEN TERRACE able to obtain clear running and therefore went to the post not fully tested.
Inside the 100 metres CHARGAL shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped SEMISYR.
It was noted that MALTESE PAPIA and TORNADO PRINCE were obliged to race wide throughout.
RACE 2 – LONGINES MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
N JOLLY (KING OBERON) was issued with a reprimand for weighing out without his stirrup irons.
BLACKSIE FLASH reared in the stalls prior to the start and became cast in the starting stalls. The filly was inspected by the club’s veterinary surgeon and on his advice Stewards subsequently declared BLACKSIE FLASH a late withdrawal at 12:42 p.m. Prior to the announcement of ‘correct weight’ all monies invested on BLACKSIE FLASH were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar for a win and 4 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer F PHILLIPS will be advised that BLACKSIE FLASH must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards before it is permitted to race again.
SUNGIFT and COOWINDA were both examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon prior to the start and were passed fit to race.
Due to the pace slackening leaving the 1,000 metres a number of runners had to be restrained for some distance, they being MALFUNCTION, KWILA’S GLORY, LORD WAUKEN, STATE OF THE MIND and SUNGIFT which was checked severely. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken however, A PATTILLO (LUCKY OMEN) was cautioned for shifting in when not quite clear of MALFUNCTION and A BAKER (BLESS US ALL) was issued with a severe reprimand for slackening the pace in such a manner that placed both horse and rider at risk of injury.
Leaving the 600 metres LORD WAUKEN was reluctant to hold its position when racing tight on the inside of MALFUNCTION and as a result lost some ground.
RACE 3 – ROYAL SELANGOR (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
FORCE NAVARO jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Leaving the 800 metres FRAMAR shifted in resulting in PAVLODAR having to be restrained off its heels. This also caused CA’DORO and SHERIFF WOODY to commence to over-race.
Approaching the 200 metres MORINGA’S MONARCH shifted out slightly and in doing so got on to the heels of CA’DORO. This caused MORINGA’S MONARCH to check and shifted out abruptly causing severe crowding to a number of runners they being ALIANA JOY, SHERIFF WOODY, LOS KATROS and IMPERIAL HEART which eventually was checked. Whilst the degree of interference suffered by those runners was severe, stewards deemed the incident accidental.
RACE 4 – LONGINES (FILLIES & MARES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP- 1,200 METRES
Leaving the 500 metres until approximately the 100 metres TUPELO was unable to go forward when disappointed for clear running.
For some distance in the early stages of the home straight FLYING SHOES was unable to obtain clear running.
Jockey A BAKER (COOL IMAGE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out near the 300 metres when not clear of ANSONIA causing that mare to be checked. A BAKER’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 meetings to commence midnight Thursday 6 July 2000 and to expire midnight Sunday 23 July 2000.
Inside the final 200 metres ANSONIA was also held up for clear running having to be steadied to avoid the heels of TEMPEL TUTTLE near the 150 metres and subsequently went to the post not fully tested.
RACE 5 – BOHEMIA CRYSTAL (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
Trainer A BAILEY was fined $50 for nominating TYCOON’S GIFT for this particular race when found to be ineligible.
After considering submissions made by the representative for Trainer H PARKINSON’s stable, stewards permitted L HILL to replace D SULLIVAN as the rider of REDACHI.
Trainer B McLACHLAN was fined $50 for presenting RAW INSTINCT to race in blinkers which was not a part of its approved gear.
CERTAIN SOUND jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
For some distance leaving the 1,000 metres DEAUXTEMPS commenced to race very fiercely and on several occasions had to be checked to avoid the heels of LADDIE ME LADDIE.
Inside the final 200 metres RAW INSTINCT (J POLLARD) was inclined to shift out when placed under pressure obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Leaving the 400 metres SURPRISE ATTACK was unable to improve when held up for clear running until eventually being shifted to the outside near the 200 metres.
RACE 6 – LONGINES (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 1,800 METRES
Leaving the 600 metres KRUTATA which was racing in restricted room between NATIVE SON and HAVE A SAY had to be steadied and as a result clipped the heels of HAVE A SAY and almost fell. After enquiring into the incident stewards were of the view that the incident was compounded by FRESHLY SQUEEZED weakening in front of KRUTATA and formed the view that the incident could not be attributed to any particular rider.
Near the 400 metres SWAPSEA shifted out after being steadied off the heels of SINGING STORY and this forced IRISH BEAU much wider on the track.
Leaving the 200 metres HAVE A SAY was disappointed for a clear run on the fence and inside ERNEST HOPE and as a result had to be steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running.
RACE 7 – LLADRO CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
Approaching the home turn HARMONY ROAD was checked after making contact with the hind quarters of SORATANI which was weakening. A veterinary examination of SORATANI revealed that mare to be suffering from respiratory distress. Trainer A EGGLESTON was advised that stewards would monitor the mare’s future performances.
RACE 8 –LONGINES WELTER – 1,300 METRES
In the early and middle stages of the race STATELY ROSE raced fiercely and then at no stage in the home straight did the mare obtain clear running and therefore went to the post not fully tested.
Near the 600 metres FIELD GOAL had to be eased to avoid the heels of ALLER ALLER (C EATON) which shifted in when not quite clear. Ms. EATON was cautioned and reminded of her obligations when shifting ground.
