RACE 1 – IGA TABLEFRESH MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,800 METRES
As A BAKER was indisposed after having a fall at the track this morning, the following rider replacements were approved:
Race 1 AESOPS FABLES L HARRIS
Race 4 DOMINANT MALE J POLLARD
Due to a clerical error, A COWIE did not appear in the press as the rider of BOULEVARDE BEAU.
CHINA CLASSIC jumped very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly subsequently losing considerable ground.
Rounding the first turn near the 1,400 metres AQUA DIANA which was placed in restricted room when STATE OF THE MIND shifted in got its head up and shifted out off the track losing considerable ground. The stewards were of the opinion that the racing manners of AQUA DIANA contributed to the incident however, D KELLY the rider of STATE OF THE MIND was also severely reprimanded for not allowing AQUA DIANA sufficient room when negotiating the turn.
A COWIE reported that leaving the 1,400 metres BOULEVARDE BEAU commenced to hang out quite severely for the remainder of the race. After interviewing the Trainer Mr R LIPP, he indicated to the stewards that after today’s performance the gelding would no longer be in his stable.
SON OF DARWIN was obliged to race wide throughout and was forced extremely wide on the home turn.
Stewards questioned G O’SULLIVAN regarding the disappointing performance of NORSE RAIDER and he explained that the stable expected the gelding to run well in light of its recent track work, however, was under pressure approaching the home turn.
D TANTI the rider of IMPERIAL ECHO reported after the race that his mount, in his opinion, was experiencing some difficulty breathing. Trainer S JONES advised stewards that whilst the colt had previously had a throat operation it had not displayed any abnormalities, however, in light of today’s performance he would be recommending to the owner not to persevere with the horse any longer. The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that IMPERIAL ECHO had shown signs of respiratory distress. The stewards advised Trainer S JONES that IMPERIAL ECHO would be required to perform in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards along with a full veterinary certificate of fitness before it is permitted to race again.
RACE 2 – IGA TABLERITE MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
APP. M ALLEN (GO SUZANNA) was fined $50 for failing to claim her entitled 3 kg allowance down to her recorded riding weight.
On jumping SEATTLE STRIKE and UNDECLARED made heavy contact.
ARIA STAR jumped awkwardly.
RACE 3 – IGA COMMUNITY CHEST (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 900 METRES
Stewards interviewed Trainer B GUY when JEDI KNIGHT was presented in the mounting enclosure without blinkers. He explained that the colt was having its first run in his care and he was unaware that JEDI KNIGHT raced in blinkers. Stewards decided to allow JEDI KNIGHT to race without the blinkers however, Mr Guy was advised that in future to ensure the declared gear on horses entering his stable were amended to his satisfaction prior to race day.
D TANTI (JEDI KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in leaving the 200 metres whilst riding it along with the ship thereby dictating the line of EYE IN THE SKY causing that horse to lose its rightful running and shift in causing crowding to SEATTLE SOUND. D TANTI’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 25 March 2001 and to expire midnight 5 April 2001. At arriving at this penalty stewards acknowledged D TANTI’s plea of guilty.
RACE 4 – IGA TROPHY (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES
BOLD YEATS raced wide throughout.
Near the 50 metres ROOFTOP FLYER shifted out under pressure and bumped THUNDERMANN.
RACE 5 – IGA SUPERMARKET (FILLIES & MARES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES
Stewards considered an objection lodged by D COLEMAN the rider of FINAL SHUFFLE which finished second past the post against PATRICIA CATHERINE (A COWIE) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference rounding the home turn. On the evidence the stewards were of the view that whilst PATRICIA CATHERINE did shift out rounding the home turn forcing FINAL SHUFFLE wider on the track they were of the opinion that the initial shift from PATRICIA CATHERINE was caused by DECORAIGH shifting out to improve and in these circumstances could not justify an alteration to the placings. Therefore the objection was dismissed.
C SPRY (IMPOSING SAL) had difficulty riding his mount out over the concluding stages when his whip got caught in the mare’s mane and thus had difficulty in maintaining a proper hold of the horse.
RACE 6 – IGA EVERYDAY (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

RACE 7 – IGA X-PRESS (CLASS 6) HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
The club’s veterinary surgeon inspected CASUAL REWARD after it had not travelled well to the course and was subsequently passed fit to start.
