GENERAL
From Saturday 21 April, 2001 – Race 5 Nerang R.S.L. & Memorial Club Handicap
Stewards today concluded an enquiry into the reasons why K. BELL (SKY RULE), APP. P. HAMMERSLEY (PLAY MISTRESS) and J. POLLARD (SWEET CHERI PIE) were dislodged at the 800 metres. Stewards found that SKY RULE which was leading at that stage had sustained a complete compound fracture to the right fore cannon. This resulted in K. BELL falling along with APP. P. HAMMERSLEY and J. POLLARD which were following. Stewards noted all explanations and no further action was taken.
From Saturday 9 June, 2001 – Race 7 Maxxium Australia (Fillies & Mares) Class 1 Handicap
Stewards accepted the explanation of Jockey B. STEWART into the reasons why he left the course without permission.
RACE 1 – STYLISH CENTURY MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES
ZEPHAUTHOR jumped away awkwardly.
TIMBALE was inclined to hang in over the concluding stages.
RACE 2 – LONGINES MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
On jumping ABANKA shifted out and made contact with HULIOUS.
Shortly after the start TIME GAP was inconvenienced between LADY ARAMAC and SEMISYR which shifted in.
TIME GAP had a tendency to overrace in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 400 metres LADY ARAMAC had to be steadied off the heels of CHAR AZTEK.
For some distance after passing the 200 metres PROUD FORTUNE layed in on HULIOUS.
RACE 3 – ROYAL SELANGOR MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
GILGURRY jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
BIOKOVO reared as the gates opened and lost considerable ground.
Shortly after the start CAPSAN was hampered between BALLROOM QUEEN and SANSTER.
After leaving the 900 metres GILGURRY raced ungenerously and made contact with COUNTRY ROSE on a number of occasions.
SANSTER was obliged to race wide throughout.
Approaching the 400 metres ATTENTIVE LAD had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring ENTITLEMENT and shifted out forcing GILGURRY and CAPSAN wider on the track.
A short distance later GILGURRY had to be eased off the heels of BALLROOM QUEEN.
RACE 4 – LONGINES WELTER – 1200 METRES
Approaching the home turn SAHARA COVET commenced to hang out and forced KIRIN LADY wider on the track.
SAHARA COVET continued to hang out despite the efforts of its rider and approaching the 200 metre mark the tiring KIRIN LADY had to be steadied off the heels of SAHARA COVET.
RACE 5 – BOHEMIA CRYSTAL HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
GALLANT HERO was held up for clear running from the 200 metres to the finishing line between VIROSCO and the tiring MALBERRY HILL.
Approaching the 200 metres KWILA SPIRIT had to be steadied off the heels of LEVANTE .
LEVANTE continued to hang in for the remainder of the event.
RACE 6 – LONGINES HANDICAP – 1800 METRES
R. CRILLEY the rider of ALL MANJACK was fined $50.00 for being overweight and was subsequently replaced by A. BAKER.
PAIUTEE blundered as the gates opened and lost ground.
Jockey A. PATTILLO reported that GLENTARKIE was inclined to hang in from the 1400 to 600 metres and made contact with TELL DARCY on a number of occasions.
RACE 7 – LLADRO HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
On jumping SPLENDENT MISSILE shifted in and made contact with PLAY MISTRESS.
Approaching the 600 metres CENTUPLE was inclined to shift out and away from PAVLODAR. At the same time WALL’S GIFT shifted in taking CENTUPLE in onto PAVLODAR, which made contact with the running rail. S. SHIELD the rider of WALL’S GIFT was advised that he must make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight when they shift.
Stewards questioned Jockey A. GILLETT the rider of PAVLODAR in regards to the performance of that mare today. A. GILLETT stated that PAVLODAR raced handy in the early and middle stages however, when the pace increased at the 400 metres the mare was unable to make ground. A. GILLETT stated that the mare had finished the race off well and he believed PAVLODAR was looking for further distance. A. GILLETT’S comments were noted. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that PAVLODAR had received a deep scalping wound to the off hind coronet and the mare was sent to be swabbed.
Over the concluding stages D. TANTI (SHANKADI) allowed his mount to shift in under pressure resulting in DOKIC having to be steadied. D. TANTI was advised that in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mounts.
MAKE A WISH was held up behind the tiring ASHELL for some distance from the 200 to the 100 metres and then had to be steadied off the heels of DOKIC and alter course.
RACE 8 – LONGINES HANDICAP – 2200 METRES
After the running of Race 7 B. STEWART was examined by the Club’s Ambulance Officer and stood down from riding. As no senior rider was available Stewards permitted APP. M. MCDONALD to be substituted as the rider of MAJESTIC HEIGHTS.
COCKY CRUISER which was fractious in the barriers was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
MAJESTIC HEIGHTS was obliged to race wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the performance of COCKY CRUISER today M. BENNETT reported that the gelding raced well in the early and middle stages of the event however, when placed under pressure from the 800 metres COCKY CRUISER did improve. He further stated that from the 600 metres the gelding failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion only battled on and did not finish the race as anticipated. M. BENNETT’S explanation was noted. A Veterinary examination of COCKY CRUISER after the race revealed a minor laceration to the gum and a contusion to the right hock.
D. TANTI (VIBRATIONS) reported that he broke his whip during the race.
