RACE 1 – BARRY VICARY MAIDEN HANDICAP – 900 METRES
BATTER UP was forced to race wide throughout.
RACE 2 – AUSTRAL BRICK MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1300 METRES
TWIN ISLAND was slow to begin.
CAPTAIN COSMIC shifted in on jumping away and made contact with PHIL THE FLASHER.
Approaching the 600 metres DAPPLE LAD shifted out and made heavy contact with HUMAN NATURE which in turn inconvenienced LUSKIN DREAMS.
Near the 400 metres TWIN ISLAND improved between CAMBERWELL and DAPPLE LAD and shifted out resulting in DAPPLE LAD which was tiring brushing BIOKOVO which then made contact with the hind quarters of REPULSE causing REPULSE to become unbalanced. Stewards accepted the evidence provided by G. PALMER (TWIN ISLAND) that at that stage CAMBERWELL had also shifted ground which influenced his line.
RACE 3 – OWENS GLOBAL LOGISTICS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1800 METRES
ENCOMIA shifted out at the start taking ESCOBAH out onto GARGOYLE.
ESCOBAH ran wide making the first turn.
It was reported after the race that ESCOBAH had suffered a laceration to the near side front leg during running.
RACE 4 – RSM AWARDS INTERNATIONAL HANDICAP – 900 METRES
EZEOFF was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and passed fit to run.
ANTARES jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
At the 100 metres ANTARES was hampered when tightened for room between BOLD COMBINATION and
MAGIC ENCOUNTER which shifted out. S. SHIELD (MAGIC ENCOUNTER) was advised to exercise more care in future.
RACE 5 – BRIKproducts (AUSTRALIA) HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
WILTON broke through the barriers prior to start being effected and was quickly restrained by its rider. WILSTON was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.
IMPERIAL HEART and BOLD YEATS were slow away.
Passing the 1000 metres DISTINCT DANGER shifted in tightening the running of ARKY BLU.
RACE 6 – THE NASHO CUP HANDICAP – 1200 METRES
Stewards considered an objection lodged by K. BELL the rider of LADY VETTORI which finished second against BE ALERT (A. COWIE) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference prior to the 400 metres. On the evidence it was established that whilst LADY VETTORI had been slightly inconvenienced at that point Stewards were not of the opinion that the interference warranted a reversal of placings.
PERSIAN IDOL jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 500 metres LADY VETTORI had to be steadied when attempting to improve to the inside of CHARSKI where there was insufficient room and in doing so tightened the running of TWILONG.
Approaching the 200 metres BE ALERT shifted out and made heavy contact with GARFIELD’S GAL.
RACE 7 – ERROL NOAK HANDICAP – 2200 METRES
Jockey D. TANTI was questioned as to his tactics on PANORAMIC STAR in the early stages. D. TANTI stated that whilst PANORAMIC STAR had raced in the lead at its previous two starts it had not been the intention of the Stable to lead. When the gelding jumped awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start by ARANBEE he elected to take a trail behind that horse as he was of the opinion that PANORAMIC STAR may shift out on the first turn as it had done previously after winning at the Gold Coast on the 7th July, 2001. His explanation was noted.
P. HAMMERSLEY (ZAPATEADO) accidentally dropped his whip near the 150 metres.
RACE 8 – FERRY ROAD TAVERN HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
SHAREEF ROCKET was slow to begin.
EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
