RACE 1 – SOUTHPORT RADIATORS (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
NIGHT ECHO and PESTULANCE made contact on jumping.
DARK SEA jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start DANCE THE RHYTHM had to be steadied off the heels of AEROLITO which shifted out.
PESTULANCE over-raced and got its head up in the early and middle stages.
After passing the 500 metres TOPARILI had to be steadied off the heels of GILLETTE.
Approaching the 250 metres TOPARILI attempted a doubtful run between GILLETTE and MAYNE EDGE. In this incident TOPARILI made heavy contact with MAYNE EDGE which resulted in MAYNE EDGE becoming unbalanced.
M DORRINGTON (MAYNE EDGE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting MAYNE EDGE to shift in after passing the 150 metres whilst riding his mount along when not clear of TOPARILI which resulted in that horse having to be checked and lose its position. M DORRINGTON’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 01/09/2001 and to expire midnight 12/09/2001.
RACE 2 – DENSO (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 1,110 METRES
Approaching the first turn DINNASNAP commenced to hang out taking TRIP TO TIARO wider on the track.
After passing the 600 metres THREATNER had to ease when MASTER ALANNON shifted in slightly.
RACE 3 – BETTY DANIELS (FILLIES AND MARES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
Approaching the 800 metres MARMADAMAH which got its head up in the air commenced to over-race and was taken wider on the track by MAYNE BELLE. MARMADAMAH was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
RACE 4 – SOUTHPORT RADIATORS (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1,205 METRES
At the request of Jockey A GILLETT, CAN GET EXCITED was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to start.
TELEHO was slow to jump.
When Trainer H NORMAN and APP. A BEST were questioned regarding the seemingly poor performance of MR. NEWSAGENCY, App. Best stated that the gelding was slow to jump however, was off the bit shortly after the start and was always under pressure and in his opinion was a disappointing performance. Trainer H NORMAN could offer no reasons for MR. NEWSAGENCY’s disappointing performance today and took an undertaking to bring to the attention of the stewards anything that may come to light within the next 48 hours with regard to the horse’s performance. MR. NEWSAGENCY was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon after the race and no obvious abnormalities could be found and the gelding was sent to be swabbed.
RACE 5 – ADAIR MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
The start of this race was delayed several minutes when CUDDLIN’ refused to enter the barrier. The filly was subsequently a late withdrawal at 3:56 pm by order of the stewards. Prior to the announcement of ‘correct weight’ all monies invested on CUDDLIN’ were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar for a win and 9 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Rachel Matangi, representative for Trainer A BAILEY was advised that a Barrier Certificate for CUDDLIN’ must be obtained before the filly is permitted to race again.
FERRY IN was slow to jump.
RACE 6 – AUTOMOTIVE COOLING SYSTEMS HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
WILD TOSS was slow to jump.
When the pace slackened at the 1,400 metres PACIFIC LANE commenced to over-race and got its head up in the air.
RACE 7 – SOUTHPORT RADIATORS (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 1,600 METRES
App. L MORRISON was reprimanded for returning to scale in excess of ½ kg over her declared weight.
Approaching the 1,400 metres SPLIT THE WIND had to be steadied off the heels of GAVEL.
SEVEN WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED ALONG WITH TOPARILI, MARMADAMAH and MR. NEWSAGENCY.
