RACE 1 – BP BENOWA SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES (TWO-YEARS-OLD) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

Inside the 200 metres LION’S REVENGE was inclined to lay in under pressure.

RACE 2 – CABARITA BEACH HOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES

HITCHIN’ A RIDE was declared a late scratching at 10:20 a.m. Trainer M GWYNNE was fined the sum of $100 for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time.

ULTRA MODERN was tightened for room at the start between FRAME WORK and BIDDADDABA.

A short distance after the start WISHES was crowded between SIMPLY ALOOF and TRIVIAL PURSUITS and subsequently dipped after striking the heels of SIMPLY ALOOF.

PAC OF PRIDE raced fiercely when being restrained off heels in the early stages.

PLAYING hung out rounding the home turn and ran wide in the straight. Trainer G RYAN’s representative was advised that the stable must barrier trial PLAYING to the stewards’ satisfaction prior to its next race start.

Approaching the 200 metres SIMPLY ALOOF shifted in under pressure obliging DE LOPEZ to be momentarily steadied.

Inside the 150 metres ULTRA MODERN shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider which obliged SIMPLY ALOOF to shift inwards to avoid that runner’s heels.

BIDDADDABA lost its off hind plate in running.

RACE 3 – TROCCADERO ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE (THREE-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

MURPHY THE SURFIE and NAJWAN came together at the start.

HOPE TO FLY blundered at the start.

PAPA’S DREAM raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.

HOPE TO FLY was forced to race wide rounding the home turn.

RACE 4 – TWEED HEADS BOWLS CLUB FILLIES AND MARES (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

Leaving the 1,100 metres SANSTER shifted in crowding PACHINKO and OUR GIRL DAWN on to SURR STYLE. B ALBUINO the rider of SANSTER was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.

App. B ALBUINO the rider of SANSTER pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in PACHINKO striking that runner’s heels and blundering. B ALBUINO’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 1 April 2002 and to expire midnight 14 April 2002.

App. P HAMMERSLEY the rider of MON MEKKI was severely reprimanded for shifting out approaching the 200 metres when not clear which resulted in PACHINKO having to be steadied by its rider.

A post race veterinary examination of PACHINKO revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the front of the off fore fetlock.

RACE 5 – NIGHTOWL BURLEIGH WATERS (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

AGAIN A GAIN was a late withdrawal at 3:21 pm by order of the stewards when it became fractious in the barriers and dislodged its rider, D CRAVEN. The gelding then broke through the gates and completed a circuit of the course. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on AGAIN A GAIN were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 20 cents in the dollar for a win and 16 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer P DUFF was advised that he must obtain a further Barrier Certificate for the gelding prior to its next race start.

When questioned regarding his riding tactics on JUST FAITH, K BELL stated that it was always his intention to lead in today’s event but that the gelding commenced to race fiercely and refused to settle when taken on for the lead by UNBRIDLED MELODY. As a result his mount compounded in the straight. Stewards also questioned App. A BEST regarding his tactics in the event and he advised that he was instructed to race in a forward position but not challenge for the lead. A BEST stated that he was unable to restrain UNBRIDLED MELODY and as a result the horse raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. Stewards accepted these explanations.

RACE 6 – COCA-COLA AMATIL CUP (CLASS 5) HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES

As the runners were being loaded for this race, due to a barrier malfunction all the gates opened prematurely and as a result both MANSION and STAR OF TELESTO completed a circuit of the course. FOLLOW THE MAESTRO and CLASSIC FRONTIER both dislodged their riders and also completed a circuit of the course. These runners were declared late scratchings at 4:07 pm with deductions of 78 cents for a win and 60 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket.

INTERMANIA was slow to begin.

Rounding the first turn ANCORA FILA shifted in and struck the running rail.

RACE 7 – BIRKBECK’S JEWELLERS BRACELET (CLASS 4) HANDICAP – 900 METRES

MAC VIV jumped away awkwardly.

SHAROU jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with AVON JEWEL.

For some distance approaching the 600 metres CIRCULAR KEY and SHAROU raced in restricted room to the inside of HIGH JUMP.

Approaching the home turn CIRCULAR KEY, when attempting to take a run to the inside of COUNT JESTER, had to be steadied when that runner shifted in momentarily. As a result CIRCULAR KEY was then obliged to shift across the heels of COUNT JESTER to obtain clear running.

App. A BEST rider of WHAM BAM was fined the sum of $100 for making a celebratory gesture with his whip prior to passing the winning post.

A post race veterinary examination of IRISH REGENT which compounded in the straight, revealed the gelding to have ruptured the flexor tendon in the off fore leg.

RACE 8 – WARNER BROS. MOVIE WORLD (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 1,800 METRES

TATHRA ROAD and SCOOTERS were both obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

Rounding the first turn SEAHAWK DANCER shifted in and struck the running rail.

Over the concluding stages GALLINA LAD was crowded for room between CROFTSIDE PARK and DASHING HERB.

GLOBAL LOVER sustained a strained flexor tendon in the near fore leg in running.
