RACE 1 – GOLD ‘N’ SLIP CELEBRITY HORSE RACE 3 YEAR OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 900 METRES

ICENI was slow to begin.

GUNGADIN jumped out at the start and hampered ENCHANTING LASS.

BODY TALK also jumped out at the start and made contact with GRAN CABALLO.

Inside the 600 metres GUNGADIN and ENCHANTING LASS were tightened for room between GRAN CABALLO which shifted in and SUPREME WILL which was inclined to lay out.

BODY TALK commenced to compound and lost ground inside the 600 metres. A postrace Veterinary examination of BODY TALK revealed the filly had sustained a knock to the near side hip on jumping away and also a laceration to the off hind cannon.

Rounding the home turn SUPREME WILL shifted out and made contact with GRAN CABALLO which forced that runner to race wide in the straight.

KIITOS SBAZEBA MOI was unable to obtain clear running in the straight behind the heels of MAIZJANE until inside the final 50 metres when that runner shifted out and as a result made contact with DARING EAGLE. As a result of this shift ICENI which was racing to the outside of DARING EAGLE shifted out and away from that runner crowding STAR OF POWER onto GOLDIE’S SON which had to be steadied by its rider.

In the home straight GOLDIE’S SON raced in restricted room between COURT A STAR and STAR OF POWER both of which shifted ground under pressure.



RACE 2 – 28 DAYS TO PRIME MINISTER’S CUP MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 METRES

Trainer C. Erhart was fined the sum of $50.00 for late notification of rider for SPICY BELLE.

After jumping away awkwardly MILLER BOY raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race.


Approaching the first turn SPICY BELLE after assuming the lead slackened the pace which resulted in CAPTAIN COSMIC which was following having to steady across that runner’s heels. R. HURLEY (SPICEY BELLE) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

A short distance later KEL’S GAL had to be steadied after racing up onto the heels of COSMO DANCER.

Shortly after entering the straight CRIME BOSS shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so momentarily hampered COSMO DANCER.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SIMPLY ALOOF S. CAMPTON stated that the mare had travelled in a prominent position throughout the event but shortly after entering the straight commenced to compound and failed to respond to his riding. A postrace Veterinary examination of SIMPLY ALOOF failed to reveal any abnormality.

Jockey A. ABRAHAM was questioned regarding his riding of ORIGIN WARRIOR in this event as the gelding was ridden back in the field which was in contrast to its usual racing pattern over longer distances which is to lead or be in a prominent forward position. A. ABRAHAM stated that he was instructed to settle his mount but by his own admission he got further back in the field than he anticipated. A. ABRAHAM further stated that he commenced to ride his horse vigorously inside the 600 metres and under hard whip riding in the straight in his opinion the gelding responded and continued to work to the line. Stewards noted his explanation.



RACE 3 – INAFLURY (NZ) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

LORKITA jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the first turn ACTIVE REST commenced to lay out.

Approaching the 1400 metres ACTIVE REST continued to lay out and when being steadied to avoid the heels of BRABINGER became unbalanced and rider APP. P. HAMMERSLEY lost his off side iron. LORKITA which was following was obliged to check and shift outwards to avoid that runner’s heels.

JUST MACCA was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

Rounding the home turn AEROLITO shifted out and made contact with MORRIS MINOR.



RACE 4 – QUEENSLAND WINTER RACING CARNIVAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

NIGHT IN VIENNA was slow to begin.

CROFTSIDE PARK jumped out at the start and made contact with APPRENTICE.

NIGHT IN VIENNA rode wide throughout the event.

Shortly after entering the straight APPRENTICE shifted out under pressure and made contact with MAST.


RACE 5 – WWW.GOLDCOASTTURF.COM.AU CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

Approaching the first turn DANEHILL QUEEN had to be steadied off the heels of I’M A THUNDER.

TRIVIAL PURSUITS was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

Inside the 250 metres I’M A THUNDER had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of KAMIKAZE BELLE which shifted out under pressure.

APP. D. GAY the rider of KEA LEAH pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that inside the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear resulting in PLAY A HULA being taken out onto KAMIKAZE BELLE which in turn resulted in I’M A THUNDER striking the heels of KAMIKAZE BELLE and blundering almost dislodging its rider. D. GAY was suspended for a period of eight (8) meetings to commence midnight the 14 April, 2002 and to expire midnight the 27 April, 2002.

Following the running of this event APP. S. MCLEAN was dislodged from KAMIKAZE BELLE at the enclosure gate. In this incident APP. S. MCLEAN sustained a kick to the chest and was sent on Doctor’s advice to hospital for observation. As APP. S. MCLEAN was indisposed Stewards permitted APP. A.BEST to be substituted as the rider of COME ON KENNY in Race 8.

L. HILL pleaded guilty to a breach of misconduct under AR83(a) in that following this event in the Jockey’s room he was the instigator in an altercation between himself and Jockey K. BELL. L. HILL was fined the sum of $100.00.

Jockey W. MOORE was questioned regarding his riding of LEE SHORE in this event as the mare was ridden back in the field, which was in contrast to its usual racing pattern which is to be in a forward position. W. MOORE stated that as he had drawn an outside barrier he was instructed to go forward if possible but if this did not eventuate to settle his mount back in the field. He added that in the early stages he elected to steady back to avoid being caught wide on the track and in doing so approaching the first turn had to be steadied off the heels of OUR GIRL DAWN when making an inward movement towards the rail. W. MOORE further added that his mount responded to his riding when placed under pressure in the straight although approaching the 100 metres he was obliged to shift in abruptly around the heels of BEDAZZLED to obtain clear running. Stewards noted his explanation.


RACE 6 – BREAKFAST WITH THE STARS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

STORM RACER was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn FLAMING GOD which was racing fiercely shifted in and tightened MICKEY BLUE EYES. FLAMING GOD continued to overrace and rounding the first turn shifted in and away from STEAL THE MOMENT. As a result MICKEY BLUE EYES was again crowded for room.

For some distance after entering the straight RANGERS and ENEMY FIRE were both held up for clear running.

Approaching the 200 metres ENEMY FIRE shifted out abruptly around the heels of STORM RACER to obtain clear running.

RACE 7 – DON’T GET LEFT BEHIND CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1200

MUKANIC jumped out at the start and tightened POTESTAS onto SWIFT COVE.

COMET WAY was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn SEASIDE SUCCESS shifted in abruptly which resulted in POTESTAS having to be steadied to avoid the heels of FLYING EMAC. A. ABRAHAMS (SEASIDE SUCCESS) was advised to exercise more care in future.

PROUD FORTUNE was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

ENTITY which compounded over the concluding stages was subject to a Veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.



RACE 8 – PRIME MINISTER’S CUP COCKTAIL PARTY CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

As D. CRAVEN was indisposed through injury he was replaced by D. GRIFFIN as the rider of JOLTIN JOE.

BRASSED and LET’S GO NATIVE were slow to begin.

FOLLOW THE MAESTRO was obliged to race wide in the early stages.

Inside the 700 metres JOLTIN JOE shifted in and momentarily tightened GLADMAC. As a result GLADMAC commenced to race fiercely and had to be steadied off the heels of CASUAL REWARD.

Approaching the 900 metres COME ON KENNY when racing fiercely had to be restrained off the heels of GOLD DREDGE.

GLADMAC was unable to obtain clear running in the straight until inside the final 100 metres.

LET’S GO NATIVE raced wide throughout the event.

APP. P. HAMMERSLEY the rider of GLITTERING AFFAIR was fined the sum of $100.00 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kilo over his allotted weight.
