GOLD COAST TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 17.06.2002

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr D Hensler, (Chairman), Mr J Graham, Mr M Tutt, Mr W Birch and Mr C Ferguson (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK – GOOD

RAIL – Out 2 metres from the 1000 metres to the winning post
Remainder true position

RACE 1: GOOD EARTH HOTEL MAIDEN H’CAP - 1800M.

BOLD AND BRASH jumped out at the start and bumped SILVERJILL.

After jumping away awkwardly DUEL FUEL was crowded for room shortly after the start between BOUNTINGLY and BIG DANCE which shifted out.

Approaching the first turn DUEL FUEL commenced to race ungenerously and threw its head in the air on several occasions when being restrained off the heels of SILVERJILL.

When questioned regarding the performance of DUEL FUEL C. Whiteley stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding back in the field as is its usual racing pattern and when he placed his mount under full pressure inside the 600 metres it failed to respond as he had anticipated and did not make up any significant ground in the straight. This explanation was noted. A postrace Veterinary examination of DUEL FUEL failed to reveal any abnormality.



RACE 2: PROPERTY BUYERS GROUP MAIDEN H’CAP - 1300M.

CHIEF SEDUCER jumped out at the start making heavy contact with GOSPEL TRAIN which in turn shifted out crowding TELAVON onto SHE’S A DISH.

Inside the 1000 metres POP WILL commenced to race ungenerously with its head in the air when racing in restricted room to the inside of ULTRA SWING.

Approaching the 900 metres VE EYE PE (M. Smith-Lester) shifted in resulting in BALLY BUCKSHOT having to steady off that runner’s heels. M. Smith-Lester was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.

BALLY BUCKSHOT then commenced to race ungenerously for some distance following this incident.

Approaching the 800 metres TELAVON shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of ULTRA SWING which in turn shifted in resulting in POP WILL having to steady off the heels of that runner. Stewards cautioned L. Hill the rider of TELAVON and advised him to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the home turn POP WILL was disappointed for clear running between DA VANTI and TRAMBURY’S TRUST.

A postrace Veterinary examination of DA VANTI revealed the gelding to be sore in the off fore shin.

RACE 3: SMART MEDIA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M.

SILVER DAN was declared a late scratching at 8.13 a.m. Trainer J. Shelton was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to scratch by the prescribed time.

HIWAY jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground at the start.

POWER PACIFIC jumped in at the start and bumped PAPILLO.

Approaching the 1000 metres RUBIES AND PEARLS which was inclined to lay in had to be steadied off the heels of POWER PACIFIC.

Leaving the 750 metres POWER PACIFIC shifted out forcing SAY EASY wider on the track.

Inside the final 200 metres KINCRAIG was inclined to lay in behind STYLISH DUCHESS.

Trainer A. Bailey’s stable representative Mrs S Thompson was questioned regarding the improved performance of STYLISH DUCHESS as opposed to its last start at the Gold Coast on the 1st June, 2002. On that occasion the filly was beaten in excess of twenty(20) lengths. Mrs Thompson stated that at the filly’s previous start after missing the start it was obliged to race wide throughout the event and as a result of this hard run compounded in the straight. She further advised that the stable had expected a natural improvement from that run however, had not anticipated the degree of improvement shown in today’s performance. Stewards noted her explanation.

K. Pope the rider of the rider of STYLISH DUCHESS was fined $50.00 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kilo over his declared weight.

Following this event S. Campton was stood down due to dehydration. He was subsequently replaced as the rider of BLUE BROCADE in Race 7 by C. Whitely.



RACE 4: ZUPPS TRUCKS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M.

WAIKARI GIRL was slow to begin.

HAAYIL MARY jumped out at the start and bumped RATTAN.



RACE 5: KIM & LAUREL BREAKFAST SHOW CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1200M.

On jumping away QUEENSBURY ROAD had to be checked when tightened for room between TRUE GRUNT which shifted out and ACKDAK which shifted in and away from LUSKIN DREAMS.

Approaching the 1100 metres LUSKIN DREAMS had to steady to avoid the heels of IN COBARGO which shifted out and away from REBEL REBEL. DESERT DAN which was following blundered after striking the heels of LUSKIN DREAMS.

ACKDAK was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

RACE 6: SOUTHSIDE FORD CLASS 6 H'CAP - 1300M.

Shortly after the start PITCH BLACK was tightened for room between MISS THUNDERSTOOD and COMET DANCER both of which shifted ground.

For some distance rounding the home turn BIRKDALE LAD was held up for clear running behind the heels of MISS THUNDERSTOOD.

Inside the 150 metres A. KENNEDY the rider of COMET DANCER lost the use of his off side iron and was placed at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.



RACE 7: BARTON GLINDEMANN CLASS 3 H'CAP – 2200M.

As D. Craven was to be overweight he was replaced as the rider of ROYAL DANEHILL in this event by L. HILL and in Race 8 on A LOT OF CLASS by A. Abrahams. D. Craven was fined the sum of $50.00 on each account of being overweight.

N. Schofield the trainer of BEAVER LAKE was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding after it became fractious in the barriers prior to this event.

TRIP TO THE MOON suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The gelding will incur a mandatory three(3) month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from TRIP TO THE MOON.


RACE 8: MEDIA APPRECIATION CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1400M.

Stewards permitted K. Pope to replace S. Shield as the rider of MAGICAL FLIGHT as he had sought permission on Thursday the 13th June, 2002 to be released from this engagement to fulfill a commitment in Brisbane.

A LOT OF CLASS jumped out at the start and hampered MAGICAL FLIGHT.

Approaching the 900 metres LYNCHIE shifted in of its own accord and made heavy contact with the running rail.

LYNCHIE continued to lay in on the running rail for some strides and when being restrained lost considerable ground. COLD START which was following had to be checked and shifted out to avoid that runner’s heels and as a result severely crowded MAGICAL FLIGHT onto SON OF ROSSI. GENTEEL BOY which was following also had to be severely checked to avoid the heels of A LOT OF CLASS. C. Small the rider of LYNCHIE stated that he was of the opinion that in this incident his mount may have received an injury to the hind legs and as a result he eased the gelding out of the race. A postrace Veterinary examination of LYNCHIE failed to reveal any significant injuries.

After rounding the home turn READY TO REV was unable to obtain clear running until a point inside the 200 metres.

ALL WINNERS AND TRIP TO THE MOON WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
