RACE 1: 5WKS TO CARLTON DRAUGHT GOLDMARKET COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1800M.
DAINTREE DAN was slow to begin.
Rounding the first turn MUKQUIN raced ungenerously and threw its head in the air when being steadied off the heels of CORRETJA. DAINTREE DAN which was following had to steady as a consequence.
Approaching the 300m MUKQUIN was disappointed for clear running between CRAIGLEA FAME and MR. NEWSAGENCY.
When questioned regarding the performance of BOONGALA, App. B Albuino stated that whilst this was the gelding’s first attempt at 1800m, he was instructed to race in a forward position today. He further stated that the gelding had travelled comfortably throughout the event but commenced to compound shortly after entering the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
RACE 2: CRESTA SMALL GOODS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400M.
BALLY BAZOOKA delayed the start when the gelding proved extremely difficult to load. Trainer B Sutton was advised that he must obtain a further barrier test certificate prior to BALLY BAZOOKA’s next race start.
BRANDY DREAMER and MARKET WATCH were crowded at the start between DEL MONTE and ARAKHAN both of which shifted ground.
Inside the 300m GO MUSIC GO was obliged to steady and shift out after racing up on to the heels of WHO’S ALICE.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BRANDY DREAMER, jockey G BAKER stated that the filly commenced to compound inside the 500m when taken on at that stage by DEL MONTE. He further stated that in his opinion the filly was awkward in her action for some distance after straightening and compounded over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed BRANDY DREAMER to be suffering from a haematoma on the off side shoulder.
RACE 3: CRESTA SMALL GOODS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400M.
KENSO COWBOY reared as the gates opened and almost dislodged its rider.
MOON JET jumped out at the start and crowded ACCRUED VALUE on to TARA’S SONG.
Approaching the 950m YABADABADOO commenced to shift in resulting in CLASHER having to steady off that runner’s heels. S McLEAN the rider of YABADABADOO was advised to exercise more care in future.
App. S McLean, the rider of YABADABADOO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that inside the 900 metres whilst riding his mount along, he shifted in when insufficiently clear of IKEBANA resulting in that colt being crowded in on to KWILTIME which was forced across the heels of SUPREME WILL which in turn blundered after striking that runner’s heels. KWILTIME then shifted in and made heavy contact with TOUCH PRINCE. App. S McLean was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence immediately and to expire at midnight on 21 July 2002.
Approaching the home turn TOUCH PRINCE lost ground when being steadied off the heels of RAPID FORCE.
Rounding the home turn IKEBANA blundered after striking the heels of SUPREME WILL which hung out.
Leaving the 200m TOUCH PRINCE shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with KWILTIME. KWILTIME reacted adversely to this contact and shifted back in abruptly which resulted in TOUCH PRINCE having to be checked after being forced in across the heels of SUPREME WILL.
Inside the final 100m CLASHER had to be steadied off the heels of TANDEM which shifted out to obtain clear running. In this incident MAYBACH which was racing to the outside contributed by shifting in slightly and making contact with CLASHER. G BAKER the rider of TANDEM was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
RACE 4: BOOK NOW FOR MELBOURNE CUP FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M.
MANDALONG SPECIAL jumped out at the start and crowded IN KALBAR and TONGUE LASHING on to DARK SEA.
Approaching the first turn OXFORD BELLE had to be steadied off the heels of MANDALONG SPECIAL which was momentarily taken in by IN KALBAR.
Leaving the 700m IN KALBAR again shifted in and became unbalanced after making heavy contact with MANDALONG SPECIAL.
A post race veterinary examination of OXFORD BELLE failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 5: GLEN AVON LODGE DISPERSAL SALE CLASS 3 H’CAP - 900M.
A Erhart the rider of HOT CYMBAL was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear resulting in ZACSAWAY and STAGE REVUE being taken in on to PRINCESS GLORIA. As a result PRINCESS GLORIA and SCOTTISH CHARGER were both severely checked when tightened on to the hindquarters of TEEBAR which in turn had to be checked when forced across the heels of LAUREN EMILY. TEEBAR became unbalanced in this incident and almost dislodged its rider. A Erhart was suspended for a period of 10 meetings to commence immediately and to expire at midnight on 25 July 2002.
Rounding the home turn MAN ON A MISSION had to be restrained for some distance off the heels of RUN ON LOCHIE which commenced to compound. Inside the 500m MAN ON A MISSION eventually shifted to the outside of that runner’s heels to obtain clear running.
Inside the 300m MAN ON A MISSION had to be steadied after laying in across the heels of HOT CYMBAL.
RUN ON LOCHIE suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The gelding will incur a mandatory three months ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from RUN ON LOCHIE.
RACE 6: FRANK EVANS FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1H'CAP - 1800M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by Ms. C Eaton, the rider of 2nd placegetter DANCER’S EDGE, against BLITZES (App. S MCLEAN) being declared the winner alleging interference approaching the home turn. It was established that making the 600m DANCER’S EDGE steadied off the heels of SET OF BELLS and gained a run to the outside of that runner and to the inside of BLITZES. A short distance later DANCER’S EDGE was tightened for room when the tiring SET OF BELLS shifted out and away from the fence. As stewards were of the opinion that BLITZES had no bearing on this incident the objection was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s numbers. At a subsequent enquiry, Ms. Eaton was fined the sum of $100 for lodging an objection deemed frivolous by the stewards.
MISS BENING reared as the gates opened.
DEPUTY LADY jumped out at the start and hampered DANCER’S EDGE.
Inside the 600m HEAVENLY SONNET had to steady after racing up on to the heels of DEPUTY LADY.
RACE 7: GOLD COAST BOOKMAKERS ASSOCIATION CLASS 6 H'CAP - 1800M.
CHOIR was slow to begin.
Leaving the 500m HAWAIIAN HONEYMOON which was inclined to lay in was tightened on to the running rail by CHOIR which shifted in and away from KWILA STAR.
Rounding the home turn LORD COVENTRY was momentarily unbalanced when tightened for room by OUTRANK which shifted in.
RACE 8: GOLD COAST TRANSPORT CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1400M.
SIR BOGANGAR and TELE SERIES were obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
OBLIGE which compounded in the straight was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon who reported that the filly had sacro-iliac soreness in the hindquarters. Trainer B GUY was advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to the filly’s next race start.
ALL WINNERS, RUN ON LOCHIE and BOONGALA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
