MR BENSON was slow to begin after jumping awkwardly.

BYBROCCO raced greenly throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination of BYBROCCO revealed the colt to be shin sore in both fore legs.

DREAM RUNNER lost its off hind plate in running.

RACE 2: HERITAGE FUNERALS H’CAP (MAIDEN) - 900M.

Trainer A Bailey, through his stable representative, was reprimanded for presenting ANNIHILATOR and CHICKEN LITTLE late on course.

SHIENDLIN broke through the gates prior to the start and after being quickly restrained returned to take its place in the field.

ANNIHILATOR was slow to begin.

ULTRA SWING was tightened for room at the start between CHIEF SEDUCER and ROYAL PERFORMANCE.

A short distance after the start ULTRA SWING, after racing in restricted room, shifted in and as a result blundered after striking the heels of CHIEF SEDUCER.

Approaching the 700m TELTIME, despite the efforts of its rider, shifted in and away from MAIN BEACH which resulted in ANXIOUS being crowded on to FAITH MOVES which was in turn taken in on to CHICKEN LITTLE resulting in SHIENDLIN having to be checked. TELTIME when being corrected shifted out resulting in ALBANY having to steady to avoid that runner’s heels.

RACE 3: FUNERAL PLAN MANAGEMENT H’CAP (MAIDEN) - 1800M.

As BIDDADDABA failed to load the gelding was a late withdrawal at 2:30 p.m. Trainer R Heathcote through his representative, was advised that BIDDADDABA would be required to pass a further barrier test prior to the colt’s next race start. On the announcement of ‘correct weight’, stewards ordered that all monies invested on BIDDADDABA be refunded with deductions of 9 cents in the dollar for the win and 10 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.

DISTINCTLY IRISH which became fractious and reared in the barriers was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

LUCKY TRADER was severely tightened for room at the start between SWEET ROMANCE and CHICORY both of which jumped awkwardly.

RACE 5: HERITAGE BROTHERS H’CAP (CLASS 5) - 1300M.

ICE PATROL was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1250m ALL IN AWE had to be steadied off the heels of SNEEM (S McLean) which shifted in. SNEEM continued to shift ground and after assuming the lead a short distance later slackened the pace which resulted in SHANKADI commencing to race ungenerously off that runner’s heels. SHANKADI then shifted out forcing ALL IN AWE across the heels of COUNTERSHOT which caused ALL IN AWE to be checked. App. S McLean was reprimanded over both incidents and advised not only to be fully clear when shifting ground and reminded of his obligations to be fully clear before attempting to slacken the pace. SPLENDIDO which was following also had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ALL IN AWE.

RACE 7: WES & ASHLEY HERITAGE H'CAP (CLASS 3) - 1400M.

As S Shield was held up at the Doomben race meeting he failed to arrive on course in time and was subsequently replaced by N Day as the rider of SPONGE BOB.

Stewards accepted trainer S Kendrick’s explanation for late notification of rider for SPONGE BOB.

SPACE COWBOY jumped away awkwardly.

Stewards questioned N Day regarding his riding of SPONGE BOB from inside the 500m. N Day stated that shortly after entering the straight he elected to improve to the outside of the heels of RUBY LACE in an endeavour to search for a run wider on the track. After viewing the patrol films, N Day admitted that in hindsight it would have been a better option to remain on the fence as clear running presented itself in the straight. Stewards noted this explanation.

Stablehand, Mr J Davies, was reprimanded by stewards for his standard of attire in the saddling enclosure.

RACE 8: GRAHAM & JOSIE MOCKRIDGE MEMORIAL H'CAP - 1200M.

DOOLALLY blundered at the start and shifted out crowding LEGEND MATERIAL and ANTARES on to SKIMBLESHANKS.

M Gray, the rider of LEGEND MATERIAL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DOOLALLY which resulted in that horse striking the running rail and having to be checked. M Gray was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on 7 October 2002 and expire at midnight on 19 October 2002.

Leaving the 800m SEMAGIC had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HUMAN NATURE which shifted in. K BELL the rider of HUMAN NATURE was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the home turn SKIMBLESHANKS was held up for clear running.

Shortly after entering the straight SKIMBLESHANKS shifted out around the heels of JAILHOUSE ROCK and in doing so crowded SEMAGIC on to CROWNSTAD which resulted in both runners becoming unbalanced. D Hayse the rider of SKIMBLESHANKS was cautioned and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into App. S McLean’s riding out of JAILHOUSE ROCK over the concluding stages.
