GOLD COAST TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 13.01.2003

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S Railton (Chairman), Mr A Reardon, Mr D. Hensler, Mr J Graham,

WEATHER - FINE TRACK – GOOD

RAIL – TRUE POSITION

RACE 1: PASPALEY PEARLS H’CAP – 1300 M.

MISS ELENI and MARAUDING LASS were both slow to begin.

SCREEN JESTER jumped out at the start inconveniencing KAVORKA.

From the entrance to the straight until after passing the 200 metres MISS ELENI was impeded for a narrow run between KAVORKA and MARAUDING LASS. When MARAUDING LASS shifted out momentarily inside the 200 metres, MISS ELENI was then obliged to alter course to the inside of that horse.

For a short distance approaching the 200 metres ENA’S TREASURE was held up for clear running.

A veterinary examination of KOOTENAY which performed disappointingly revealed that filly to be lame in the off fore fetlock joint. Trainer J. Wallace was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for KOOTENAY prior to that filly’s next race start.


RACE 2: RAY WHITE SURFERS PARADISE H’CAP - 1300 M.

KATENIAN blundered at the start.

At the 700 meters HIGH AND DRY had to be restrained after improving to the inside of the heels of JUST THE DROP where there was insufficient room. B. Stewart the rider of HIGH AND DRY was cautioned for the manner in which he shifted to the outside of the heels of AWESOME WARRIOR approaching the home turn resulting in JUST THE DROP and BREEZE PAST both being forced wider on the track in an abrupt fashion.

After attempting a run between JUST THE DROP and HIGH AND DRY near the 200 metres where there was insufficient room STORM SCENE made contact with the hind quarters of HIGH AND DRY. This had the affect of turning HIGH AND DRY out across the running of STORM SCENE resulting in that horse being checked.

When questioned regarding CLANGER losing its position in the middle stages App. M. Rice stated that after being tightened to a minor degree by HIGH AND DRY approaching the first turn his mount was reluctant to hold its position and did not relish racing inside other runners.

RACE 3: HEINRICH CONSTRUCTIONS PTY LTD H’CAP – 1800 M.

After jumping away awkwardly RACER’S SUCCESS shifted in soon after the start tightening FORECASTLE on to the hind quarters of CITY MISSION.

A veterinary examination of RACER’S SUCCESS which performed disappointingly failed to reveal any abnormality. When questioned B. Stewart stated that from the awkward alley he was instructed to ride the gelding quietly and after settling near the rear of the field RACER’SUCCESS had a tendency to overrace due to the lack of speed. He concluded by saying that the race was not run to suit RACER’S SUCCESS.


RACE 4: QTIS QUALITY H’CAP – 1200 M.

Due to a misunderstanding G. Boss was declared as the rider of BATTLER and when unable to take that mount M. Pelling was substituted.

KOOCHIE jumped in at the start bumping heavily with CAP JUAN causing that horse to lose ground.

PROUDLY AGRO and HAMAH also came in contact at the start.

SIR BREAKFAST jumped away very awkwardly.

A. Russell the rider of SIR BREAKFAST was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in near the 900 metres resulting in NORTHERN FORCE being momentarily tightened onto BATTLER. As a consequence NORTHERN FORCE bumped BATTLER which became unbalanced and lost ground abruptly. HAMAH which was following had to be severely checked to avoid the heels of BATTLER and shifted out severely hampering SHEER DEVOTION and ROYAL SHIRAZ. PROUDLY AGRO was also hampered and lost ground. A. Russell was suspended for a period of eight(8) meetings to commence midnight Sunday 12 January, 2003 and to expire up to an including Sunday 26 January, 2003. A $250.00 fine was also imposed.

Soon after entering the straight CAP JUAN was disappointed for a run inside BATTLER. CAP JUAN continued to be held up for clear running until near the 100 metres.


RACE 5: $1 MILLION CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLIONS 3YOTROPHY – 1400 M.

Trainer Mrs M. Thexton was fined the sum of $100.00 for presenting WARRIOR TRADER late on course.

AMEX was very slow to begin. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that AMEX must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.

LOVELY JUBLY jumped out at the start tightening BLUR onto LION DANCER.

DE LOLLIES lost ground at the start after receiving a bump from PRIVATE STEER which jumped out.

Passing the 1200 metres LION DANCER got its head up when restrained off the heels of SPINNING CON which shifted in when not quite clear. J. Grisedale the rider of SPINNING CON was formerly reprimanded and reminded of his obligations to be at least two(2) lengths clear when shifting ground.

After passing the 1000 metres LOVELY JUBLY brushed the running rail and then shifted out causing tightening to COOL TRENT and WARRIOR TRADER.

PRIVATE STEER was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of LOVELY JUBLY B. Prebble stated that he held grave concerns for the filly midrace as she commenced to lose ground without any reason. He indicated that despite pulling the whip on LOVELY JUBLY she continued to compound therefore he eased the filly from the event fearing something may have been amiss. The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that upon examination of it was revealed that LOVELY JUBLY was suffering from hear arrhythmia. A swab sample was taken from LOVELY JUBLY. Trainer K. Robinson was advised that prior to LOVELY JUBLY’S next race start he would be required to provide a full veterinary clearance which would include the results of a ECG test. He was further advised that LOVELY JUBLY would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again.


RACE 6: HSP PIVOTAL POINT MAGIC MILLIONS CUP H'CAP – 1200 M.

INNER CITY shifted out on the first turn forcing ECSTASY very wide. ECSTASY continued to race wide throughout the middle stages.

Soon after straightening WAGSTAFFE attempted to shift out from behind CHICAGO NIGHTS and made contact with SYDANEE which was hampered. WAGSTAFFE was then held up for clear running for the remainder of the event.


RACE 7: $1 MILLION CONRAD JUPITERS MAGIC MILLION 2YO CLASSIC – 1200 M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by N. Callow the rider of 5th placegetter DRESS CODE against MERBOOB (H. Bowman) being declared 4th placegetter alleging interference near the 100 metres. Whilst it was established that MERHOOB had shifted in under pressure near the 100 metres stewards dismissed the objection as it was deemed the gelding was sufficiently clear at that stage.
HOW FUNNY jumped in at the start hampering L’ESPALIER.

Approaching the 1000 metres HELTER SKELTER shifted in abruptly off the heels of MERHOOB resulting in DANBIRD being taken in across the heels of DANZOIR.

DANZOIR had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MERHOOB which shifted in at the 900 metres. Whilst stewards accepted that DANZOIR had compounded the incident by getting its head up H. Bowman (MERHOOB) was nonetheless cautioned for failing to provide sufficient clearance.

Approaching the 800 metres SPINNING BOY had to be steadied momentarily when REGIMENTAL GAL shifted in.

DANBIRD shifted in of its own accord at the 700 metres and brushed the running rail. At the same stage L’ESPALIER hung out inconveniencing CHARMVIEW.

After leaving the 400 metres IMPERIALISM had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DRESS CODE which shifted in to obtain clear running.

When HOW FUNNY improved to the outside of KAS NEDIYM on the home turn EXPRESS BALL was carried out onto the hind quarters of CHARMVIEW.

After passing the 200 metres HASNA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HOW FUNNY which shifted in under pressure. G. Boss the rider of HOW FUNNY was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount.

When questioned regarding the performance of HASNA C. Munce stated that the filly had not begun well however, obtained a reasonable position in the field when racing with cover. He added that the filly was under extreme pressure prior to the home turn and that she had only plugged to the line. A Veterinary examination of HASNA failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

A Veterinary examination of both DANZOIR and L’ESPALIER which tailed off failed to reveal any abnormality.

SNIPPY lost its hind plate during the event.


RACE 8: SURFERS PARADISE MARRIOTT RESORT GOLD COAST STAKES – 1400 M.

Trainer T. Whittington was fined the sum of $50.00 for late notification of rider for CENTONA.

After beginning awkwardly FEDERAL AGENT was bumped by TREASURE THE KWILA which jumped outwards at the start. As a consequence FEDERAL AGENT became unbalanced and lost ground.

B. Stewart the rider of DIAMOND DANE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CEFFYL, resulting in that horse having to be checked by its rider. B. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine(9) meetings to commence immediately and expire after midnight Sunday 26 January, 2003. In addition B. Stewart was fined the sum of $250.00.

Leaving the 700 metres JAR JAR BINKS had to be steadied off the heels of BANFF CONNECTION which tended to get its head up when racing ungenerously.

JAR JAR BINKS was unable to obtain clear running in the straight.

CEFFYL lost its off hind plate in running.


RACE 9: MORETON EVENTS HANDICAP – 1400 M

RED INTRO was slow to begin.

An inquiry was opened into an incident which occurred on the home turn where XANTRA had to be restrained off the heels of CALDRON which was disappointed for a run to the outside of that horse which shifted out. After taking evidence from both C. Munce (XANTRA) and S. Galloway (CALDRON) the matter was adjourned to enable Stewards to interview L. Appo the rider of SAMMY, which was racing to the inside of CALDRON.



KRULEWSKI lost a near fore plate in running.

ALL WINNERS PLUS HASNA, LOVELY JUBLY AND SMART CHARIOT (RACE 8) WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
