RACE 3: DEL LAWYERS H’CAP – 1300 M.

SKY BID and LION PRINCESS came together at the start.

Approaching the first turn LITTLE PRETTY shifted out when being steadied off the heels of GOLD TAURUS. A short distance later LITTLE PRETTY was placed in restricted room inside CABARITA COUNTY which was taken in momentarily by CEDDIE.

CABARITA COUNTY then commenced to hang out for the remainder of the event and as a result was unable to be fully tested by its rider in the straight. A postrace veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer V. Chalmers was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the stewards’ satisfaction prior to its next race start.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HADJIEL A. Kennedy stated that whilst he was initially obliged to race wide in the early stages he obtained cover in the middle stages but when placed under pressure in the home straight the gelding failed to run on. A postrace veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MISS SHARPSHOOTER App. D. Ballard stated that he was instructed to take up a prominent position but when unable to he was caught wide in the early and middle stages and he elected to ease back to take up a position closer to the rail. He further stated that when placed under pressure in the home straight the filly did not respond and failed to run on. A postrace veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

A charge of careless riding issued against N. Jolly the rider of CHEEKY BOGGY alleging that he allowed his mount to shift out leaving the 150 metres causing interference to EBONYTARI was not sustained. In making this decision stewards gave N. RACE 7: STEINDL SOLICITORS H'CAP – 1400 M.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BRIMLEY App. D Ballard could offer no explanation other than that he was obliged to travel three(3) deep throughout the event and was forced wider when making a run rounding the home turn. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the filly to have pulled up in a distressed state.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of GIULIO trainer P. Fleming advised that this was only the third start for the mare under his training and that she had been disappointing at her last two(2) starts where she struck interference at the 850 metres at Kilcoy on 7 February, 2003 and prior to that had missed the start by a number of lengths at Murwillumbah on the 20th January, 2003. He further stated that this was the mares first start with him over 1400 metres and he had anticipated an improved performance when instructing his rider to ride GIULIO in a quiet manner. Stewards noted his explanations.
