WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD

RACE 1 - IGA/LISTERINE POCKET PACK H'CAP (CLASS 2) - 1800 METRES
GETZEN was slow to jump.
An enquiry was held into the riding of MISS BENING in particular the tactics of App. K. Cunningham after leaving the 1000 metres until the 600 metres. App. Cunningham explained that whilst she had been instructed by the horse's trainer Mr S. Trevitt to endeavour to go forward she stated that the horse had travelled well in the early stages despite being worse than midfield and that after leaving the 800 metres the horse appeared somewhat reluctant to go forward. App. Cunningham stated that after asking the horse for an effort near the 600 metres her mount could not sprint and lost ground when the tempo of the race quickened. Stewards advised App. Cunningham that her ride lacked judgment particularly bearing in mind the slow pace early and taking into account MISS BENING'S previous pattern of racing. When further questioned in relation to her riding of MISS BENING over the concluding stages she explained that she rode the horse hands and heels only as she rarely uses the whip. A veterinary examination of MISS BENNING failed revealed no abnormalities.
Approaching the 100 metres MISS BENNING shifted in slightly and made contact with the hind quarters of MIGHTY MERAH. A short distance later MIGHTY MERAH was checked when racing between MISS BENNING and GETZEN. A. Kennedy the rider of GETZEN was severely reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear of MIGHTY MERAH, causing that horse to be tightened.
RACE 2 - IGA/SCHWEPPES BEVERAGE HANDICAP (MAIDEN) - 1400 METRES
MRS CROMWELL jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1100 metres MRS CROMWELL was inclined to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of SEAWAY LAD.
Approaching the 900 metres CROWN WARRIOR became unbalanced when racing in restricted room inside of TEAKER'S BLUE STAR.
MRS CROMWELL brushed the running rail near the 500 metres.
On straightening TEAKER'S BLUE STAR was disappointed for a run between the tiring FRAME WORK and PHILLY JOE JOE.
Also on straightening BETTYMAC shifted out to improve and made contact with MRS CROMWELL.
Near the 200 metres MRS CROMWELL baulked at the whip of C. Whiteley.
Leaving the 200 metres FRAMEWORK which was compounding was tightened by TEAKER'S BLUE STAR which shifted in away from CROWN WARRIOR which was in the process of taking a run in restricted room inside of SEAWAY LAD.
Near the finishing line MRS CROMWELL was accidentally struck on the head by the whip of C. Whiteley (BETTYMAC).
RACE 3 - IGA COMMUNITY CHEST HANDICAP (MAIDEN) - 1400 METRES
Trainer M. Thexton was fined the sum of $50.00 for arriving late on course with PARAMETER.
Trainer L. Birchley was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to notify N. Day as the rider of FUN ADDICT by the prescribed time.
Near the 1200 metres RUMBLE AND TELL was inclined to shift in and away from PARAMETER which resulted in FUN ADDICT having to be eased to avoid that runner's heels.
PARAMETER had to be eased off the heels of EXALTER near the 900 metres and when being eased shifted in tightening RUNS LIKE BUCK, causing that horse to lose it's position. M. Johnston the rider of PARAMETER was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
RUMBLE AND TELL had to be eased off the heels of PARAMETER in this incident became unbalanced and was inclined to race fierce for some distance.
The connections of PARAMETER were questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance. M. Johnston explained the horse travelled well until the 600 metres however, his mount was unable to take advantage of a run on straightening and did not finish the race off as anticipated. Trainer M. Thexton explained that the horse had pleased in its preparation for today's race and she may consider riding the horse back in the field in future. A postrace veterinary examination of PARAMETER revealed the horse had sustained a laceration to the off hind fetlock.
Leaving the 300 metres RUMBLE AND TELL shifted in abruptly and made contact with TAG AND RELEASE.
RUMBLE AND TELL then continued to lay in over the concluding stages.
RACE 4 - IGA SAFE HANDICAP (THREE-YEARS OLD MAIDEN) - 900 METRES
SCOTTISH REAVER which was fractious in the barrier broke through the gates riderless. As the horse had completed a lap of the course it was declared a late scratching at 2.48 pm. Following the late withdrawal of SCOTTISH REAVER all monies invested on that horse were ordered to be refunded in full and deductions of 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket. The connections were advised that SCOTTISH REAVER would be required to pass a further barrier test before being permitted to race again.
ASHTON ROAD and RIVER AVON were both slow to jump.
Shortly after the start TEXAS REVENGE lost ground when tightened between GO ARNIE and LET'S GROOVE.
LET'S GROOVE was inclined to race greenly and shifted in tightening GO ARNIE. GO ARNIE then made heavy contact with the running rail and shifted out abruptly across the heels of LET'S GROOVE and raced ungenerously for some distance. A veterinary examination of GO ARNIE after the race revealed the horse to have suffered a laceration to the off hind fetlock. Trainer T. Joseph was advised that a warning would be placed on GO ARNIE.
Leaving the 200 metres TOOTS was inclined to lay in which resulted in SNIPPETY LASS being momentarily tightened for room. M. Bennett's left foot slipped from the stirrup iron when he attempted to straighten TOOTS and he was unable to regain use of the iron over the concluding stages.
RACE 5 - IGA SUPERMARKET HANDICAP (COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1) - 1400 METRES
AGAIN A GAIN jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
ALEXANDER'S JOY was slow to jump.
ALEXANDER'S JOY got its head up and raced ungenerously rounding the first turn.
TARA'S SONG raced wide rounding the first turn.
RACE 6 - IGA EVERYDAY HANDICAP (FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1) - 1400 METRES
MY DIAMOND LIL jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Passing the 800 metres ANNUNAKI was inclined to hang out and had to be eased away from the heels of CRAZY AS.
Stewards questioned C. Whitely and trainer G. Osborne concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of ANNUNAKI. C. Whiteley stated that the horse did not travel as well today and was inclined to race keenly . He explained that he horse did not apear to race as well with the pacifiers today. Trainer G. Osborne indicated that the horse may not have backed up after having raced on a heavy track seven(7) days prior. G. Osborne further added that he intended to give the horse a slight ease up. A veterinary examination of ANNUNAKI revealed no abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
RACE 7 - IGA X-PRESS HANDICAP (CLASS 5) - 1300 METRES
UNION SQUARE got its head up and raced ungenerously rounding the first turn.
EHORSE was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the horse had bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion EHORSE had bled the horse was banned from racing for life in accordance with AR53A Section 5.
A. Kennedy the rider of EHORSE accidentally dropped his whip approaching the finishing line.
RACE 8 - COINTREAU AURA LADIES DAY HANDICAP (CLASS 3) - 900 METRES
PACIFIC MELODY jumped inwards at the start making heavy contact with TUNGUSTA.
NATTIE jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making contact with GOLD BULLET.
After travelling a short distance NATTIE and HOT CYMBAL both lost ground when tightened between PACIFIC MELODY and OMNITRADER when both horses shifted ground.
D. BALLARD reported that after being checked shortly after the start and losing ground NATTIE took some distance to muster speed.
Leaving the 100 metres NATTIE was inconvenienced when PACIFIC MELODY shifted inwards.
TUNGUSTA which finished some distance from the bulk of the field was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported at the time of examination he could not find abnormality.
