GENERAL

As R Hurley was indisposed through illness, the following replacements were approved:

Race 1 ELUSIVE DANE D Gay
Race 5 HAVACHAT B Albuino

As P Cuddihy was indisposed through illness the following replacement was approved:

Race 2 PHIBBER MCGEE B Swanton

M Johnson did not fulfil his riding engagements in Races 7 and 8 after being booked for these mounts by his manager. Stewards intend to interview M Johnson regarding this matter in the near future. Stewards permitted M Smith-Lester to be replaced as the rider of CYMBALIST - Race 8.

RACE 1 - STEVE HAWKINS 2000TH GOLD COAST RACE CALL H'CAP (2YO MAIDEN) - 1400M

HANDY HANK was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200m THEATRE ROSE commenced to race fiercely and as a result had to be steadied off the heels of RECHARIA'S GIRL. THEATRE ROSE continued to race fiercely throughout the middle stages.

Inside the 450m GIMMEABEER broke down in the off fore leg and fell dislodging its rider, C Kearney. ELUSIVE DANE which was following was unable to avoid the fallen GIMMEABEER and also fell dislodging its rider, App. D Gay. PURR AND POUNCE, ENCHANTED MAGIC, THEATRE ROSE, HANDY HANK, KING CROWNIE and STORM RAIN were all hampered to varying degrees as a result of the two falls. As App. D Gay was transported to hospital for observation, stewards intend to interview him at a time and date to be fixed. GIMMEABEER was diagnosed to have sustained a fracture to the off fore cannon and was euthanised on humane grounds. ELUSIVE DANE which sustained a fracture to the neck was also euthanised on humane grounds. The club's doctor stood down C Kearney from his further riding engagements.

The following replacements were approved for D Gay:

Race 3 SPAGCAM B Albuino
Race 6 BOULDER BLAZE S Thurlow

When questioned regarding the improved performance of MERTHYR ROAD, Trainer J Wallace advised that in his opinion the gelding appreciated the gear change of blinkers off and pacifiers on today and as a result was able to comfortably race to a forward position. Mr Wallace also stated that in his opinion MERTHYR ROAD appreciated the further distance of today's event. These explanations were noted.

RACE 2 - ACTION SHEET METAL H'CAP (THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN) - 1300M

Inside the 700m DIXIE KLAIRE had to steady after racing up on to the heels of SUPER FRIEND.

Inside the 100m SUPER FRIEND was momentarily impeded for clear running when attempting a run between DUPLICATION and OUR ACADEMY STAR.

RACE 3 - SCOTTSDALE HOMES PTY LTD H'CAP (MAIDEN) - 1400M

KING'S AURA was slow to begin.

DEEP TOUCH was obliged to race three wide throughout the event.

N Day the rider of MUSIC MASTER was reminded of his obligations to fully test his mounts out to the end of the race. A post race veterinary examination of MUSIC MASTER failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4 - BRISBANE CAMPERLAND H'CAP (CLASS 5) - 1700M

From shortly after entering the straight until inside the 150m AWESOME WARRIOR was unable to obtain clear running between CANTANTES and REALE D'OR.

Inside the 200m AWESOME WARRIOR was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of A Kennedy (REALE D'OR).

RACE 5 - MCCULLOUGH ROBERTSON LAWYERS H'CAP (FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 2) - 1400M

Leaving the 800m HAVACHAT which was inclined to lay out had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DANCE THE RHYTHM.

Inside the 700m the saddle slipped on JUST A BELIEVER placing its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

Inside the 300m DANCE THE RHYTHM and JUST A BELIEVER came together.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CALAIS BOUND, C Whiteley explained that he raced three wide throughout the event without cover and as a result the filly failed to run on in the straight. This explanation was noted. A post race veterinary examination of CALAIS BOUND failed to reveal any abnormality.

Following this event C Kearney, who had remained on course following his fall, was again examined by the club's doctor and subsequently transported to hospital for precautionary x-rays of his left hand.

RACE 6 - BONIFANT GROUP - PROFESSIONAL REAL ESTATE H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 1700M

SIGHTED jumped away awkwardly.

RIBBONWOOD was slow to begin.

Inside the 200m LANA BELLE was obliged to steady and shift out around the heels of the tiring BOULDER BLAZE.

RACE 7 - JASOL HANDICAP (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 2) - 1400M

Following race 6, A Kennedy who was suffering from dehydration was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his remaining riding engagements. As a result UP TRUMPS was declared a late scratching at 3.19 pm as no replacement rider was available.

SOUL SURFER was declared a late scratching at 9.24 am. PRINCE OF PEMM, PLANET EARTH and SAHARA LOCH were all declared late scratchings at 1.55pm. Stewards authorised these scratchings as no replacement riders were available.

RACE 8 - SURFERS PARADISE DEMONS FOOTBALL CLUB H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 1200M

TRISTA LAD jumped away awkwardly.

JANIS JAY jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with FRENCH TERROR.

LIGHTNING ROUGE and PUSADORO were crowded for room at the start between OUR BRISK BAY which shifted in and CYMBALIST which shifted out after knuckling over.

For some distance leaving the 800m CYMBALIST was obliged to steady back off the heels of PARDON SIR.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PARDON SIR, N Day stated that the gelding was extremely fractious in the preliminary and in the barriers prior to the start and during the event raced greenly. In his opinion PARDON SIR was apprehensive when racing inside runners and as a result commenced to compound inside the 600m and finished a distant last. Trainer L Birchley's representative could offer no further explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

ALL WINNERS AND PARDON SIR WERE SWABBED.
