App. S Richardson was fined the sum of $100 for failing to fulfil his riding engagement in Race 9 on TIZ.
RACE 1: JIM CALLAGHAN CLASSIC H'CAP (THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN) - 1200M
BLACKSALLY STAR jumped in at the start and crowded DREAM RUNNER on to FRENCHY.
MALMO jumped out at the start and became unbalanced after making heavy contact with LA LA BABETTE.
BLACKSALLY STAR was obliged to race three wide throughout the event.
After entering the straight MR HOOVER was held up for clear running behind the heels of DREAM RUNNER.
Approaching the 300m, when attempting to gain clear running, MR HOOVER (D Ballard) shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of RECHARIA'S GIRL. Inside the 200m MR HOOVER then shifted out around the heels of RECHARIA'S GIRL to improve which resulted in BLACKSALLY STAR which was following having to be steadied to avoid that runner's heels. D Ballard was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
A post race veterinary examination of MALMO which finished last in the event failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2: KPMG ASSURANCE H'CAP (FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN) - 1400M
Trainer G Stewart was fined the sum of $50 for late notification of rider for MANDARAS.
GLASSHOUSE jumped in at the start and tightened LADY JAY on to HAVACHAT.
Rounding the first turn, when racing fiercely, SWEET CONNECTIONS shifted in and crowded DUAL SUCCESS on to SHEOAKS. LADY JAY and HAVACHAT which were following were both hampered in consequence.
Rounding the home turn HAVACHAT shifted out and forced MANDARAS wider on the track.
Over the concluding stages I TOLD YOU had to be steadied when attempting to improve to the inside of DUAL SUCCESS.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SWEET CONNECTIONS, A Kennedy stated that he was instructed to ride the horse quietly but after beginning very well he was forced to race without cover and the filly pulled hard and he was unable to settle her at any stage. He further added that as a result of over-racing SWEET CONNECTIONS failed to run on in the straight. This explanation was noted. A post race veterinary examination of SWEET CONNECTIONS failed to reveal any abnormality.
M Gray was fined $50 for returning to scale in excess of 1/2 kg over his allotted weight.
RACE 3: GEORGE HARRIS H'CAP (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN) 1400M
Inside the 400m HANDSOME GROUCHO and TOMB RAIDER were both hampered when TOLOCIN (App. L Fitzsimmons) shifted in momentarily. App. L Fitzsimmons was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
RACE 4: KPMG ADVISORY H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 1400M
Trainer B Gentle was fined the sum of $50 for late notification of rider for GENERAL EAGLE.
Rounding the first turn BABU CHIREE was tightened for room between DRAGON DELITE and KOOL KALI which shifted in.
Shortly after entering the straight SOUTH WIND was obliged to steady off the heels of DANZIG'S STRIKE which shifted out to improve.
GENERAL EAGLE commenced to lay in when placed under pressure in the straight and on at least three occasions shifted in and made contact with BABU CHIREE.
RACE 5: STEVE BOARD H'CAP (CLASS 3) - 1400M
Rounding the first turn and throughout the middle stages of the event TIMESTO had to be restrained off the heels of DEFINITE DECISION.
SEMAGIC was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 6: CARL WAUGH CUP H'CAP (CLASS 2) - 1700M
SUCCESS ON US had to be checked at the start between LATINLOVER and SPAGCAM which jumped away awkwardly.
POWER PACIFIC was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
SUCCESS ON US raced wide rounding the home turn.
When questioned regarding his riding of SUCCESS ON US, App. L Fitzsimmons advised that he was instructed to take up a forward position but due to the interference he suffered at the start was obliged to race back in the field. This explanation was noted.
RACE 7: KPMG TAXATION H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 900M
SHIENDLIN was slow to begin.
Approaching the 600m KOOTENAY was momentarily crowded between MONTESANTOS STAR and DELAVEGA both of which shifted ground.
Rounding the home turn AUTUMNBAR and MARKINGS raced in restricted room between MERRY AN' GOLD and MENSA PRINCE which shifted out to improve. A short distance later MARKINGS and AUTUMNBAR made contact.
Approaching the 200m MARKINGS was obliged to steady and shift out to avoid the heels of MONTESANTOS STAR.
MERRY AN' GOLD lost its off hind plate in running.
RACE 8: KPMG TRANSACTION SERVICES H'CAP (CLASS 5) - 1300M
FOREVER GRAND was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and passed fit to start.
SCOOTERS and RENAZZO were slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn PARASANG shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped SPANKSTER. At the same stage GENTEEL BOY which was following shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running.
RENAZZO raced wide throughout the event.
ALL WINNERS WERE SWABBED.
