Approaching the first turn PORTSIDE became unbalanced and lost ground and shifted
in striking the running rail. PRINCESS POSH which was following also lost ground
in this incident.
D. Craven the rider of the fifth placegetter POSSUM pleaded guilty to a charge under
AR137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race, which in the
opinion of the stewards had cost him fourth placing. D. Craven was fined the sum
of $300.00.
RACE 2: WORKFORCE ONE OPEN H'CAP - 1200M
Approaching the first turn when the pace eased OMNITRADER commenced to overrace
when being restrained off the heels of AVON JEWEL.
OMNITRADER continued to overrace and refused to settle through the middle stages.
RACE 3: UNCLE TONY'S KEBABS H'CAP - 1200M
SWORN TO ACTION was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties. The
horse was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon on arrival and cleared to race.
TYCOON SHINING and RAGING SECRETARIAT came together at the start.
BYBROCCO knuckled over at the start.
BURNING BRIDGES jumped away awkwardly.
DONCIANO raced wide throughout the event.
BYBROCCO raced waywardly when placed under pressure in the straight.
SWORN TO ACTION suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The colt will incur
a mandatory three (3) month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from SWORN
TO ACTION.
RACE 4: GOLD COAST INFO LINK H'CAP - 1600M
Due to a mistake by trainer J. Everson, M. Lister was inadvertently advertised as the rider
of INTADANE. When it was established that M. Lister was not riding at this meeting he
was replaced by A. Cox. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by J. Everson and
no action was taken.
Shortly after the start PRINGLE'S GIRL blundered after striking the heels of BORN A
STAR which shifted in after making contact with the hind quarters of INTADANE.
TARAPELLO was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
MERMAID'S WISH was held up for clear running from the 450 metres to inside the
300 metres.
A postrace veterinary examination of WING CHUN which finished last in the event
failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 5: NAB-CUSCAL CUP - 1200M
Rounding the first turn RECHARIA'S GIRL shifted out and tightened KING'S
REQUEST onto BRONCO ALF.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of BENALLEN
D. Craven stated that it was his intention to race in a forward position which is the
gelding's usual racing pattern but after beginning only fairly BENALLEN failed to
muster any early speed and he was obliged to race back in the field. D. Craven
further advised that in his opinion the gelding was not comfortable racing back in
the field and failed to respond when placed under pressure. This explanation
was noted. A postrace veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
BRONCO ALF was obliged to race wide throughout the event and shifted
considerable ground outwards in the straight.
RACE 6: WORKFORCE ONE CLASS 2 H'CAP - 2000M
TRISTACASS and ANTONIA ROSE which were both fractious in the barriers were
examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
When questioned regarding his riding tactics on ANTONIA ROSE App. L. Fitzsimmons
stated that he was instructed to race in a prominent position if possible but as the mare
showed no pace out of the gates was caught wide passing the winning post on the first
occasion. Making the crossing HEMAN HONOUR shifted out and brushed ANTONIA
ROSE forcing that horse wider on the track. App. Fitzsimmons further stated that because
of this he was obliged to race three (3) deep in the back straight and leaving the 800 metres
shifted out to a five (5) deep position and commenced to make a forward run. As a result
ANTONIA ROSE compounded on entering the straight and finished last in the event. Trainer
Mr. L. Mayfield-Smith's representative Mr. H. Rudnicks confirmed these instructions.
Stewards advised App. Fitzsimmons that whilst they believe he was a victim of circumstances
at stages of the race he was nonetheless advised to show more initiative than to expect his
mounts to make a sustained run from the 800 metres and then finish the race off. A postrace
veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a scalping wound to the off
hind coronet.
RACE 7: GOLD COAST AIRPORT LIMITED H'CAP - 1600M
Trainer Ms. M. Thexton was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to produce the document of

As A. Morrison was overweight stewards permitted B. Swanton to be substituted as the
rider of TOMATIO. At a subsequent enquiry A. Morrison was reprimanded for being
overweight.
A. Morrison was found guilty of a breach of AR83(a) in that after being informed that
he would not be permitted to take the ride on TOMATIO he did physically kick and
spill the contents of a refuse bin at the entrance to the jockey's room. A. Morrison
was fined the sum of $500.00. In assessing penalty stewards took into account his
previous record in relation to conduct matters.
Following this event D. Tanti made application to stewards that TOPEKO had been denied
a fair start. After taking evidence and viewing the patrol films it was established that
TOPEKO had an attendant in its stall but was slow to begin from its own actions and
therefore was declared a runner.
Rounding the first turn STAGE REVUE commenced to overrace when being restrained
off the heels of SUPAROO.
Approaching the home turn PACHINKO was held up for clear running and upon entering
the straight shifted out to improve and in doing so blundered after striking the
