GENERAL
Trainer Mr G. Stewart was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to scratch GREY REGENT
by the prescribed time for today's Doomben meeting.
RACE 1: LITEWEIGHT 2000 MAIDEN PLATE - 1800M
Approaching the first turn ANDAHOY commenced to overrace and at the same stage TRULY
A KING shifted out making contact with ANDAHOY forcing ANDAHOY out onto VITAL
SPIRITS, which was obliged to race in a three(3) wide position thereafter.
Passing the 1400 metres when being restrained MISS DARBONNAIRE commenced to race
ungenerously.
ANDAHOY had a tendency to shift about in the straight.
Approaching the 300 metres the tiring LUNAR FLAME was hampered between TRULY A
KING and MONTEAL BEAU which shifted out to improve. App. Y. Yamazaki the rider of
MONTEAL BEAU was reprimanded and advised of his obligations when shifting ground.
M. Johnston was questioned regarding his riding tactics adopted on FASHION STAR today.
M. Johnston explained that due to the slow pace in the early and middle stages and being
obliged to race wide he elected to go forward and obtain a lead shortly after the 1000 metres.
He further stated that the mare was a one pace galloper and in his opinion that was the best
opportunity for FASHION STAR to win. His comments were noted .
App. D. Ballard was questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of WHAT'S
TO COME. App. Ballard stated that the gelding jumped well however, it was unable to gather
speed in the early part of the race. He further stated that after rounding the first turn his mount
shifted out and was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. App. Ballard
stated that in his opinion today's run was good in the circumstances. His comments were
noted.
RACE 2: JBL QUALITY APPLICATORS PLATE - 1200M
Trainer B. Guy was fined the sum of $50.00 for failing to declare a rider for SON OF ZENA
by the prescribed time. D. Tanti was subsequently declared the rider of SON OF ZENA.
KIDNAPPER was declared a late scratching at 12.37 p.m. when that filly became cast in
the starting gates. The start was further delayed when all runners had to be removed from the
starting gates to enable KIDNAPPER to be released. The Club veterinary surgeon reported
that KIDNAPPER sustained severe bruising to the withers together with minor head injuries.
Trainer A. Bailey's representative Mrs S. Thompson was advised that KIDNAPPER must
trial to the stewards' satisfaction prior to its next race start.
SHE'S OUR DANE which was kicked by KIDNAPPER while in the starting gates was
examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported the filly had sustained a laceration to the
left fore leg and left hind leg and was declared a late scratching at 12.45 p.m.
BUNGER which was positioned to the outside of KIDNAPPER in the barriers was examined
by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that BUNGER had sustained a small laceration
to the inside of the right hind leg. BUNGER was subsequently passed fit to start.
Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on KIDNAPPER and SHE'S
OUR DANE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 63 cents in the dollar for a win
and 36 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket.
The announcement of correct weight was delayed when A. Abrahams requested that his mount
BUNGER be declared a non-runner as he was of the opinion that the filly was injured when
KIDNAPPER became cast in the adjacent barrier. The Club's veterinary surgeon Dr. C.
McCormack examined BUNGER after the incident and prior to the start and in his opinion
the colt was fit to compete. Subsequently BUNGER was declared a starter.
FLORENTO was slow to jump.
NAVARRO was obliged to race three (3) wide.
Approaching the home turn SON OF ZENA shifted out taking MEADOW SOPRANO out onto
STELLAR PRINCE which had to be steadied off the heels of NAVARRO which resulted in
that runner shifting out abruptly and being forced wider on the track.
RACE 3: LITEWEIGHT 2000 QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1000M
Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that FREEZE FRAME which proved difficult to load would
require a barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
AFRICAN GREY jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the side partition.
A. Pattillo the rider of FREEZE FRAME reported that his saddle shifted forward slightly in the straight.
RACE 4: NRG GREENBOARD CLASS 3 H'CAP - 900M
CRYSTAL LANE jumped away awkwardly.
SEE DEE GIRL was slow away.
CRYSTAL LANE lost its near fore plate during the event.
Rounding the home turn CRYSTAL LANE was momentarily held up for clear running behind
PRICEY'S BEAUTY and shifted out making contact with MCGINTY ROSE.
RACE 5: LITEWEIGHT 2000 CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1800M
SANSOLO and CONGREGATE were slow to jump.
Stewards questioned C. Whiteley regarding the disappointing performance of CONGREGATE.
C. Whiteley stated that at no stage throughout the event was he happy with the action of
CONGREGATE. He further stated that at the 800 metres his mount faltered on two (2)
occasions of its own accord and lost momentum and the gelding was under pressure
throughout the event. A veterinary examination of CONGREGATE revealed the gelding
was showng signs of soreness in the hind quarters. Trainer Mr S. Jones was advised that
a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the gelding's next race start.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that ESCUTCHEONS suffered lacerations to
the off hind during the event.
RACE 6: HEINRICH CONSTRUCTIONS SPRINT - 900M
Due to a printing error ELABORATE was inadvertenly shown in the racebook as a scratching.
The course broadcaster was advised of the mistake prior to the commencement of the
meeting. All reasonable measures were taken to advise patrons on course.
CRAIGLEA BELLS was slow to jump.
Over the concluding stages CRAIGLEA BELLS had a tendency to lay in and made contact
with JUST DEVINE.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that CANNY'S DOUBLE had bled from both
nostrils. As this was the first occasion the gelding had bled it will incur the mandatory three
(3) month ban.
RACE 7: GUARANTEED TILING CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1200M
Trainer L. Birchley was fined the sum of $50.00 for late notification of rider for LOADED VICE.
App. D. Ballard was subsequently declared the rider of LOADED VICE.
BOTTLE jumped away awkwardly and made contact with RAINBOW KING.
SPUR ME ON had a tendency to overrace in the early and middle stages of the event.
RACE 8: AUSSIE GROUP STAKES CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1400M
Due to riding commitments in Brisbane D. Miller Jnr was replaced by B. Swanton as the rider
of BALLYHAZE.
The start of this race was delayed due to a malfunction when the starting gates were released
prematurely. All riders attempted to restrain their mounts after hearing the siren. D. Tanti the
rider of TELWA was unable to restrain his mount and completed a full circuit of the course.
Subsequently TELWA was declared a late scratching at 5.16 p.m. and the following deductions
applied 8 cents a win and 8 cents a place on the face value of the tickets. All other runners were
inspected behind the barriers by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take their place
in the field.
FLATTER was slow to jump.
SIRCOLO which was slow to jump was shortly after hampered by BALLYHAZE which shifted
out.
MR CHIPS was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
SOVEREIGN SPUR overraced between the 800 metres and the 600 metres and had to be
steadied off the heels of RAGING SECRETARIAT on a number of occasions.
Passing the 400 metres SOVEREIGN SPUR when again overracing had to be steadied
off the heels of BENALLEN.
