STEWARDS REPORT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB 20 MARCH, 2004

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr G Hargraves (Chairman), Mr P Gillard, Mr C Waller,

RACE 1: IGA/GOODMAN FIELDER BAKING H'CAP - 900M

KALINGA COUNTY was slow away.

KANDJUM jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with DEXTER'S BOY which
was taken out onto BELILLA which in turn became unbalanced and shifted out resulting in
MULTI QUICK having to be checked.

Approaching the 600 metres LONG MAC was inclined to hang in and had to be steadied
off the heels of KANDJUM.

Rounding the home turn KANDJUM shifted out and hampered LONG MAC.

KALINGA COUNTY which raced greenly ran wide on the home turn.

KANDJUM raced greenly down the home straight and near the finish line shifted out
abruptly hampering ENDOSADO.



RACE 2: IGA/UNCLE TOBY'S FOODS H'CAP - 900M

COLD SPRING TEA, ADMIRAL KEN and FAST FLIGHT were slow away.

BIRDLADY jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier
partition.

MALTESE LOVABLE raced greenly and near the 600 metres shifted out taking
ENCORES AND ROSES wider on the track.

Near the 400 metres FAST FLIGHT had to be steadied off the heels of RARE
PROSPECT.

RARE PROSPECT raced greenly down the home straight.



RACE 3: IGA COMMUNITY CHEST MAIDEN H'CAP - 1200M

BIG JESSE jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

GARRICK and OFF THE LIST made contact at the start.

Near the 1100 metres OFF THE LIST shifted in and tightened the running of GARRICK
which had to be steadied.

Near the 800 metres GARRICK had to be steadied when tightened for room between
RAPID ILLUSION and ANNIE THE BRAVE both of which shifted ground.

BIG JESSE was inclined to shift in under pressure down the home straight.

RAPID ILLUSION raced wide throughout.

Due to a clerical error BIG JESSE was incorrectly notified as having a crossover nose
band taken off for today's event and subsequently raced in a crossover nose band. When
questioned regarding the performance of BIG JESSE C. Whiteley stated that his mount
raced ungenerously during the middle and latter stages of the event and his in opinion BIG
JESSE resented the crossover nose band. He added that he felt BIG JESSE would be better
suited over a longer distance.

A postrace veterinary examination of BIG JESSE failed to reveal any abnormality.

When questioned regarding the performance of OFF THE LIST S. Jones stated that
after having every opportunity in the race the filly failed to finish the race off as expected.
He added he was at a loss to explain the performance and his comments were noted.



RACE 4: IGA/MCCAINS FROZEN FOODS CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1400M

LOCHLANDY jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1200 metres LORD CLINTON shifted out from behind the heels of POWER PLAY
and hampered KENDRICK LAD.

Approaching the first turn KENDRICK LAD commenced to overrace.

After leaving the 200 metres ANNIHILATOR was inclined to shift in under pressure.

Approaching the 100 metres App. D. Ballard had to stop riding his mount MIGHTY ICON
when it was inclined to shift in under pressure.

App. D. Ballard the rider of MIGHTY ICON was reminded of his obligations to keep
riding his mounts out to the finish.



RACE 5: SUPA IGA H'CAP - 1300M

Due to transport difficulties M. Usher was replaced as the rider of MELLOSSO by
M. Dorrington.

Trainer K. Doughty was fined the sum of $50.00 for late notification of gear change for
MISS HOLLYWOOD.

Upon arrival on course MELLOSSO was inspected by the Club's veterinary surgeon after
it sustained a small laceration to its near hind cannon enroute to the course. MELLOSSO
was subsequently passed fit to start.

Near the 1000 metres GAY DECEPTION had to be steadied off the heels of UNIQUE
ASCOT which shifted in. Soon after GAY DECEPTION was tightened for room between
GULLIVER TRAVELS and UNIQUE ASCOT which then shifted out.

Rounding the home turn STOOD UP shifted out and bumped DECLANTER which
resulted in STOOD UP becoming unbalanced and shifting out further taking DECLANTER wider
on the track.

C. Whiteley was questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on DECLANTER and in
particular why the horse was ridden in a more forward position today. C. Whiteley stated that
after racing back at its previous start from a wide alley DECLANTER only finished the race off
fairly. He stated that blinkers were added today in an attempt to have the horse race more
keenly and from the wide barrier the intention where possible was to ride the horse
forward. He further added that DECLANTER hung out from the 1000 metres until
entering the home straight. His comments were noted.

KEAVE HOUSE lost its off fore plate in running.



RACE 6: IGA EVERYDAY H'CAP - 1800M

EMILIANO raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

Shortly after the start EMILIANO shifted out and tightened the running of HIS
REFLECTION which had to be steadied.

Near the 1500 metres FLATTER had to be steadied when tightened for room between
UNDARA and THE ANTS PANTS which was taken in by SWEET INNOCENCE.

SWEET INNOCENCE was unable to obtain clear running in the early stages of the
straight.

UNDARA was unable to obtain clear running in the straight.

When questioned as to why FLATTER raced back in the field today Jockey D. Craven
stated that it was always his intention to go forward and lead if possible but due to the
early speed out of the barriers his mount was unable to obtain a forward position.
His comments were noted.



RACE 7: IGA X'PRESS OPEN H'CAP - 1200M

DANEWIN BEAUTY which cast its near fore plate and damaged the wall of the hoof
was subsequently a late withdrawal at 4.30 p.m. on veterinary advice. Prior to the
announcement of correct weight all monies invested on DANEWIN BEAUTY were ordered
to be refunded with deductions of 22 cents in the dollar for a win and 17 cents in the dollar for
a place on the face value of the ticket.

MINER'S UNION was slow away.

OUR MR. POMPEII jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 400 metres MINER'S UNION was held up for clear running and again in
the early stages of the straight.

Rounding the home turn SEAFRONT shifted out abruptly taking MOTIVATE wider on the
track.


RACE 8: GOLD COAST BULLETIN GO GIRLS CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1200M

ESCUTCHEONS jumped away awkwardly.

Passing the 1100 metres CRAIGLEA TURF shifted in and tightened the running of BROWN
BRIDGE which had to be steadied.

App. B. Smith the rider of UTURN was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near
the 800 metres tightening the running of UDDER BRILLIANCE which had to be steadied.

Leaving the 600 metres ESCAPE TO MARS was tightened for room between WITLACE
and LUX which shifted out.

WITLACE raced wide in the early stages of the race.

SUN CATCHER raced wide throughout.

UDDER BRILLIANCE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Rounding the home turn SUN CATCHER ran wider on the track.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ESCAPE TO MARS
A. Kennedy stated that whilst the gelding had been ridden hard early and received some
minor buffeting near the 600 metres his mount failed to finish the race off when placed
under pressure. He could offer no excuses and in his opinion felt the gelding was most
disappointing. Trainer D. Sutton's representative Mr C. Dawes stated that ESCAPE TO
MARS had been working well prior to the event and the stable expected a bold showing
today. He too was at a loss to explain the performance. Mr Dawes also undertook to
inform Stewards of any condition that may come to light. A veterinary examination failed
to reveal any abnormalilty and ESCAPE TO MARS was sent to be swabbed.
