App. A. Russo's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six (6) meetings to commence midnight 14 June, 2004and to expire midnight 26 June, 2004. In assessing penalty
stewards took into account App. Russo's good race riding record and his relative inexperience in race riding.

Leaving the 600 metres CHARZIG had to be steadied off the heels of MISS WAZOWSKI which shifted in.

RACE 4: CARLTON DRAUGHT GOLDMARKET RACEDAY - WEDNESDAY 18TH AUGUST
H'CAP - 1300M

Stewards considered an objection lodged by D. Browne the rider of FRENCH DAGGER which finished second
against C. Whiteley the rider of IN ORDER being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over
the final 200 metres. On the evidence it was established that inside the final100 metres C. Whiteley when using the
whip with the left hand shifted out at least a horse and a half dictating the line of FRENCH DAGGER and as a result FRENCH DAGGER was accidentally struck in the head by the whip of C. Whiteley on two occasions.
The stewards were of the opinion that the degree of interference suffered by FRENCH DAGGER exceeded the
margin between the two horses at the finish and therefore they upheld the objection and amended the placings
to read:-

1st FRENCH DAGGER D. Browne
2nd IN ORDER C. Whitelely
3rd DUMP 'N' BURN App. L. Fyfe
4th KING SPARTAN B. Swanton

FIRST BELL was slow to begin.

Inside the 250 metres FIRES had to be steadied after improving up onto the heels of ICEWOMAN.

final 100 metres.

RACE 8: BIRKBECK'S JEWELLERS CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1300M

On return to scale a protest was lodged by Chief Steward Mr D Hensler on behalf of the connections of ENGINEER (D. Browne) the second placegetter against App. A. Russo the rider of SHREWD 'N' SOUND which which had dead heated for second placing alleging interference inside the 200 metres. On the evidence it was established that approaching the 200 metres ENGINEER had shifted out from behind the heels of NO MORE DREAMS and obtained a clear run between that runner and SHREWD 'N' SOUND . Leaving the 200 metres SHREWD 'N' SOUND shifted in under pressure and impeded the running of ENGINEER for a number of strides. The stewards were of the opinion that the degree of interference suffered by ENGINEER warranted the upholding of the objection and amended the placings to read:-

1st SUPER SLIDER C. Whiteley
2nd ENGINEER D. Browne
3rd SHREWD 'N' SOUND App. A. Russo
4th GRAB THE PHONE D. Stanley

NEXT RED jumped away awkwardly.

An inquiry into interference suffered by OPPOSITE approaching the 1100 metres and a further inquiry into interference suffered by ENGINEER and again OPPOSITE leaving the 900 metres were both adjourned to a date to be fixed as P.
