STEWARDS REPORT - GOLD COAST TURF CLUB - 10 JULY 2004

STEWARDS PANEL: MR C CLIFFORD (CHAIRMAN), MR J GRAHAM,

OUT 6M FOR REMAINDER

TRACK: GOOD - DOWNGRADED TO 'DEAD' AFTER RACE 2

GENERAL:

Due to a race fall at Ipswich on 9 July 2004, App. D Ballard was unable to fulfil his riding engagements today and accordingly, Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:

Race 1 THAT'S BETTER App. J McKinnon
Race 4 STEAMBOAT D Tanti
Race 6 FUN FOR US App. D Griffin
Race 8 TINYBOW B Swanton

As App. D Gay was indisposed, stewards permitted the following rider replacements:

Race 1 NOBLE DAY M Cant (No apprentice jockey on course)
Race 4 HANDY HANK App. A Russo
Race 5 FLYING DEVIL App. A Morris
Race 7 KID TREASURE App. A Morris

RACE 1: GCTC SPONSORS H'CAP (MAIDEN) - 900M

On jumping App. A Russo was dislodged from DUSTWIND when he lost his near side iron. App. Russo was examined by the club's Doctor and was able to fulfil his remaining engagements.

THAT'S BETTER jumped away awkwardly and shifted out and made contact with AREEBA AREEBA.

Approaching the 400m WIRED FOR SOUND and AREEBA AREEBA raced in restricted room for a short distance when BARONESS IVOR shifted in slightly.

Approaching the 200m CENTRO MAGIC which commenced to hang in got its head up in the air and had to be steadied off the heels of WIRED FOR SOUND.

D Green the rider of CENTRO MAGIC was cautioned regarding the use of his whip in the straight.

RACE 2: SKY CHANNEL MERMAID BEACH TAVERN PLATE (MAIDEN) - 1400M

On jumping LORD VOLDEMORT was hampered between CHARZIG and REMEMBRANCE which shifted out.

MILWAUKEE FLYER had a tendency to over-race in the middle stages of the event and had to be steadied off the heels of PRINCE CARTIER.

Approaching the 400m GO RORY GO shifted in and hampered REMEMBRANCE which in turn made contact with the running rail.

A veterinary examination of MILWAUKEE FLYER which finished a distant last revealed the mare to have sustained a scalping wound to the off hind coronet.

After the running of this event the track was downgraded to "Dead".

RACE 3: SKY CHANNEL SOUTHPORT AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL CLUB H'CAP (TWO-YEARS-OLD MDN) - 1400M

D Tanti was struck in the face when GO ERIN got its head up in its preliminaries. He was examined by the club's ambulance officer and was able to fulfil his riding engagement.

LEICA TEDDER and HONEST DECISION were slow to jump.

Passing the 600m MISSING IN ACTION had to be steadied off the heels of ELDON which shifted in slightly.

Approaching the home turn MISSING IN ACTION was disappointed for a run between LEICA TEDDER and ELDON which shifted in. In this incident LEICA TEDDER made contact with the running rail.

Passing the 100m ME ME GO shifted in and made heavy contact with CAWDOR BULLET.

RACE 4:SKY CHANNEL FISHERMANS WHARF TAVERN QTIS H'CAP (THREE-YEARS -OLD MAIDEN) - 1200M

Approaching the first turn MELZA SHOWGIRL shifted away from the rail taking HANDY HANK out on to the heels of STEAMBOAT and had to be steadied.

For some distance leading up to the 400m WEONA GOLD raced in restricted room between LAVINIA MARY and RIGHT SPICE which shifted in and away from MISS HOEY MOEY.

At the entrance to the straight HANDY HANK attempted a run between DARKWOOD LODGE and STEAMBOAT for some distance before having to steady and alter course.

MISS HOEY MOEY was obliged to race wide for a majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of STEAMBOAT, D Tanti advised that he was instructed by Trainer H Richardson to ride the horse back in the field in today's event. He further stated that STEAMBOAT over-raced throughout the event and did not appreciate racing behind other runners. STEAMBOAT was under pressure approaching the home turn and failed to run on. A post race veterinary examination of STEAMBOAT failed to reveal any abnormality.

After the running of this event, D Tanti was examined by the club's Doctor and was stood down from his remaining riding engagements. Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:

RACE 5: SKY CHANNEL CURRUMBIN CREEK TAVERN H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 1700M

MAIZY MAY was obliged to race wide for a majority of the event.

S Shield the rider of TEAKER'S BLUE STAR, accidentally dropped his whip near the 300m.

Passing the 200m MAIZY MAY had to be steadied off the heels of MEMPHIS TENNESSEE and alter course.

C Whiteley the rider of MAIL TRAIN was reminded of his obligation to ensure that he rides his mounts out to the finishing line.

RACE 6: SKY CHANNEL BEENLEIGH SPORTS CLUB H'CAP (OPEN) - 1800M

As C Schumacher was indisposed through illness, stewards permitted D Green to be replaced as the rider of REGAL GARTER.

MIDNIGHT WARRIOR dislodged M Cant in the preliminary. He was examined by the club's ambulance officer and was able to fulfil his riding engagement.

MAKE ME A MIRACLE missed the start.

COUNTER AGENT jumped away awkwardly nearly dislodging App. A Morris.

Stewards questioned App. C Rogers regarding her ride on MAKE ME A MIRACLE. App. C Rogers stated that she was told that MAKE ME A MIRACLE was always slow to begin and she was instructed to have the horse in a position where it was comfortable. Stewards questioned C Rogers in regards to her ride from the 1500m until approaching the home turn. C Rogers stated that approaching the first turn MAKE ME A MIRACLE did make the corner awkwardly and shifted out into a very wide position and remained in that position down the back straight until approaching the 800m when MAKE ME A MIRACLE moved into a 4 wide position. Stewards were critical of C Rogers in that her tactics in the back straight lacked initiative resulting in MAKE ME A MIRACLE being trapped very wide for the majority of the race.

RACE 7: SKY CHANNEL KIRRA BEACH HOTEL H'CAP (CLASS 4) - 1300M

KING WELLS was slow to jump.

Approaching the 800m KID TREASURE commenced to race ungenerously and lay in making contact with EXTREME RED.

RACE 8: SKY CHANNEL BROADBEACH TAVERN H'CAP (CLASS 2) - 1400M

Approaching the 1100m TINYBOW had to be steadied off the heels of GRAB THE PHONE. BROHMAN which was following commenced to over-race and also had to be steadied off the heels of TINYBOW and shifted out. At the same stage RECHARIA'S GIRL shifted in slightly taking MAJESTIC THEATRE in on to POLKA QUEEN which had to check and lose its position.

Passing the 600m POLKA QUEEN attempted a narrow run to the inside of MAJESTIC THEATRE and shifted in resulting in BROHMAN which was racing under pressure having to be steadied and lose its position.

SHREWD 'N' SOUND ran wide approaching the home turn.

RECHARIA'S GIRL lost its off side hind plate in running.


EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
