RACE 1: LOGAN DIGGERS H'CAP - 1000M

Upon application from trainer D. Bell stewards permitted LA TRIA to race without blinkers in this event. The matter was adjourned to enable stewards to access the stable return details lodged with the Trainers' Service Centre.

FINAL ASSAULT was slow to begin.

Leaving the 800 metres I EXPLORE shifted out after racing up onto the heels of KING OF STING which resulted in ADMIRAL NELSON having to be checked when forced across the heels of VILLOSA. ADMIRAL NELSON ran extremely wide in this incident and continued to race ungeneroulsy for some distance.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of IONA HUNTER A. Kennedy stated that the filly travelled well in the early stages when being ridden along but felt awkward in it's action leaving the 500 metres. He further stated that when placed under pressure in the straight the filly did not make up any significant ground. His explanation was noted. A veterinary examination of IONA HUNTER failed to reveal any abnormality.

GAME raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight.

RACE 2: WORK DIRECTIONS H'CAP - 1200M

M. Traecey was harmlessly dislodged from BORELLI enroute to the barriers.

BORELLI jumped awkwardly at the start and lost ground.

RACE 3: SMART MEDIA MAIDEN PLATE - 1800M

Approaching the first turn after being crossed by POETS LOVE, BARBARY commenced to shift in despite the efforts of it's rider resulting in DUSTY BALL striking that runner's heels and blundering.

Leaving the first turn HIDDEN JEWELS commenced to race ungenerously and had to be steadied off the heels of BARBARY.

When questioned regarding his handling of SANDOWNSTEPPE App. M. Spriggs stated that after being slow to begin the gelding showed no early speed and rounding the first turn was at the tail of the field. He stated that from this point on it felt to him the gelding was amiss in it's off fore leg and was reluctant to stretch out through the middle stages of the race. He added rounding the 800 metre turn on a number of occasions he attempted to improve but the gelding failed to respond. He stated that between the 800 metres and 400 metres SANDOWNSTEPPE was still reluctant to stretch out but rounding the home turn when he shifted to the outside of the field the gelding picked up the bit and commenced to respond to his riding but still raced greenly under pressure. This explanation was noted and the racing manners of SANDOWNSTEPPE were brought to the attention of trainer B. Walker. A postrace veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of NERRENA A. Kennedy stated that the gelding had the run of the race but had not run on as anticipated when placed under pressure in the straight. This explanation was noted. A veterinary examination of NERRENA failed to reveal any abnormality.

PENALIZED was declared a late scratching at 1.29 p.m. by order of stewards. The horse was previously declared a late scratching on 4 September, 2004 at the Gold Coast Turf Club when the track was downgraded to dead. Trainer G. Heinrich advised the stewards that she did not fully understand her obligations with a wet track ban and had anticipated the track to be upgraded today and this is the reason why she had not withdrawn PENALIZED by the 7.30 a.m. scratching deadline. In the circumstances no action was taken against the connections but G. Heinrich was advised that in future she must make a decision on scratching her runners with wet track bans on the basis of the track rating given on race morning.

The start of this race was delayed when SYDNEY GEORGE proved extremely difficult to load. Trainer H. Page's representative was advised that connections must obtain a further barrier certificate for the colt prior to racing again.
