At the request of Jockey M Bennett, SIMPSON DESERT underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed fit to start.
BARBARY was obliged to race wide until approaching the 1000m when the gelding obtained the lead.
RACE 3: LOOK ENTERPRISES H'CAP (MAIDEN) 1200M
Due to a clerical error, A Parramore was advertised in the race book as the rider of SCANDAL PARK when in fact A Pattillo had been declared.
TOP'S LAD jumped in at the start and hampered COLEYVILLE ROAD.
PACIFICO and SCANDAL PARK made heavy contact at the start when tightened between MINOA and COLD SPRING GAL both of which jumped away awkwardly.
Leaving the 1100m MINOA and SCANDAL PARK made contact which resulted in SCANDAL PARK then having to be steadied off the heels of COLD SPRING GAL which shifted in.
Leaving the 800m PACIFICO commenced to overrace when being restrained off the heels of MINOA.
Approaching the 700m MINOA shifted off the fence slightly and PACIFICO improved into a position where there was insufficient room and this resulted in PACIFICO having to be checked.
Leaving the 600m COLEYVILLE ROAD was tightened on to the running rail when racing in restricted room to the inside of AUSSIE ODYSSEY.
Shortly after entering the straight AUSSIE ODYSSEY shifted out and made heavy contact with MAJOR STAR which became unbalanced.
J Barnett the rider of CHOSEN FORTUNE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 200m whilst riding his mount along with the whip he permitted it to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in MAJOR STAR being taken in on to KEAVE HOUSE which in turn tightened AUSSIE ODYSSEY on to COLD SPRING GAL which then had to be checked off the heels of PACIFICO. TOP'S LAD which was following also had to be checked when avoiding the heels of COLD SPRING GAL. K Bamett's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence midnight 25 September 2004 and to expire midnight 8 October 2004.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of COLD SPRING GAL, D Tanti stated that leaving the
600m TOP'S LAD shifted in and away from SCANDAL PARK and bumped his mount slightly on a number of
occasions and from this point on the filly failed to respond to his riding. He further indicated that whilst he did
receive interference inside the 200m, the filly had well and truly run her race by that stage. His explanation was
noted. Trainer G Ryan's representative was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance and undertook to
report to stewards any condition which may become apparent in the ensuing days. A post race veterinary
examination of COLD SPRING GAL failed to reveal any abnormality and the filly was sent to be swabbed.

ELECTRIC RORY was held up for clear running rounding the home turn until inside the 200m.
Following this event D Tanti reported that he was struck in the right arm by a clod which resulted in him being unable to properly test BROWN BRIDGE in the early stages.
RACE 7: LOOK ENTERPRISES H'CAP (CLASS 3) 1000M
SILENT THOUGHT was slow to begin.
SILENT THOUGHT laid out when placed under pressure and tested with the whip in the straight.
A Pattillo pleaded guilty to a breach of AR137(b) in that he failed to ride the third place getter, DYNAMIC WAVE, out to the end of the race. A Pattillo was fined the sum of $300. In issuing penalty stewards were not satisfied that his actions had clearly cost him second placing in the event.
RACE 8: NERANG RSL & MEMORIAL CLUB H'CAP (CLASS 2) 1800M
CAMP EDEN jumped away awkwardly.
BOATHARBOUR ROAD jumped away awkwardly and was obliged to race wide after leaving the 900m.
Rounding the first turn CAMP EDEN commenced to overrace when being restrained off the heels of GOLDIE'S SON.
When questioned regarding the performance of CAMP EDEN, A Russo stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position if possible but after jumping away awkwardly and losing ground at the start, the mare commenced to overrace and refused to settle. Rounding the first turn he explained that he was unable to shift out around the heels of GOLDIE'S SON to go forward, as at that stage he had BROHMAN racing to his outside. He further explained that CAMP EDEN continued to overrace and leaving the 1100m blundered after striking the heels of BROHMAN. In this incident CAMP EDEN shifted out abruptly and forced BLOODWOOD wider on the track. A Russo also lost the use of his left iron and did not regain it for a number of strides. A Russo further added that CAMP EDEN continued to race fiercely and as a result he was obliged to race wide from leaving the 600m and the mare failed to finish the race off in the straight. Trainer L Kelly confirmed the instructions given and accepted the circumstances surrounding A Russo's handling of CAMP EDEN.
L Cook the rider of BOATHARBOUR ROAD was fined the sum of $100 for returning to scale in excess of 1/2 kg over her allotted weight.
EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED ALONG WITH COLD SPRING GAL.
