Stewards questioned jockey D. Browne and stableforeperson Mr M. Mele over the performance of ROCK OF MUFASA. D. Browne stated that shortly after jumping he had been crowded between ARGYLE GEM and DOUBLE EL AITCH and shortly after this was momentarily hampered when GET IT GOOD began to shift in. D. Browne advised he was instructed to ride forward and if possible to lead however, he felt that after being crowded shortly after the start and losing his position he then used his own initiative and elected to restrain rather than be caught wide. He then stated that nearing the 700 metres he was obliged to steady from the heels of MRS CEE and with this he shifted out abruptly. From this point he was then obliged to race 3 wide and then nearing the 500 metres he elected to move forward and began to make ground on the field. However, from this point he was obliged to race wide and even though the gelding made ground from the top of the straight he was of the opinion that the gelding's run had ended over the final stages. He pointed out to stewards that he was not happy with his ride and felt that he may have made a wrong decision during the early stages when he elected to restrain placing him then in the position of having to avoid the heels of other runners. A subsequent postrace veterinary examination of ROCK OF MUFASA revealed that the gelding had struck it's near fore sesamoid.

A postrace veterinary examination of KSAR MAGIC revealed the gelding to be suffering form respiratory distress. Stewards instructed trainer K.
