From Gold Coast Turf Club 8/7/2006 – Race 2
Trainer L. Morton was found guilty of contravention under AR118A and was fined $200.00 for failing to seek permission of the stewards to change weighed out equipment on BRAVE WOMAN.
From Gold Coast Turf Club 8/7/2006 – Race 5
When questioned regarding the tactics issued to jockey G. McCarthy on SHOULDAWON trainer H. Wilson advised his instructions were to ease the horse at the start because of the wide barrier and position the horse where it felt comfortable. G. McCarthy after easing the horse in the early stages to the rear of the field. He further advised he considered his best option when leaving the 600 metres was to persevere for inside runs however, the horse was held up for a clear run at vital stages over the final 300 metres of the race. Their explanations were noted.
From Gold Coast Turf Club 8/7/2006 – Race 8
Jockey G. Palmer was fined the sum of $100.00 for contravention of AR120(b) for failing to fulfil his riding engagement on BEAMER.
Jockey G. Palmer was further reminded of the requirements under LR49 regarding seeking stewards’ permission before leaving the track.
Race 1: Surfside Buslines 3YO Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Beat The Judge 2nd – Oboe D’Amor 3rd – Astral Travel 4th – Explosive Forme
Correct weight was delayed to allow App. M. Palmer the rider of OBOE D’AMOR to view the film to see if he had grounds for a protest against the winner BEAT THE JUDGE (P. Hammersley). After viewing the field App. M. Palmer advised he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was given.
DESERT GEM (M. Traecey) jumped away awkwardly.
SIMPLY INNOCENT (C. Franklin) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 1100 metres BENJI’S BABE (J. McKinnon) had to be steadied off the heels of BRIDAL SUITE (R. Goltz) which shifted in whilst racing greenly. Jockey R. Goltz was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
BEAT THE JUDGE shifted ground under pressure in the straight.
Race 2: Orocon Group Pty Ltd 2YO Maiden H’Cap – 900m
1st – Demands Respect 2nd – Gypsy Mist 3rd – Wireless 4th – The Devil Rocks
REEF STYLE (G. McCarthy) and BULLY TAYLOR (B. Payne) came together on jumping away.
GYPSY MIST (App. M. Palmer) jumped awkwardly.
Shortly after the start BULLY TAYLOR had to be checked when tightened for room between REEF STYLE and THE DEVIL ROCKS (L. Morrison) which was taken out by WIRELESS (D. Green) which in turn was taken out by MACBANK (C. Whiteley). A short distance later SUNDAY AT THE VIC (D. Griffin) became unbalanced when it made contact with the hind quarters of REEF STYLE.
Approaching the 650 metres MONT JUIC (A. Spinks) had to be steadied when tightened for room between DEMANDS RESPECT (N. Day) which shifted in and MACBANK which shifted out abruptly and became unbalanced.
Approaching the 250 metres SAVANNA LASS (R. Martin) had to be steadied when tightened between SPICE SOUQ (S. Nakamura) and BAROK (R. Goltz) both of which shifted ground.
GYPSY MIST (App. M. Palmer) and BAROK raced wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn THE DEVIL ROCKS was held up for clear running until approaching the 250 metres.
Race 3: Gold Coast Airport Limited 3YO & Up Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Plate – 1300m
1st – Hesweepsaway 2nd – The Anteater 3rd – Rautai’s Rising 4th – Gold Coast Express
HESWEEPSAWAY (APP. M. Palmer) shifted out at the start making contact with SILVER HALO (P. Hammersley).
GALLIPOLIAN (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800 metres GALLIPOLIAN was placed in restricted room and became unbalanced to the inside of SHOW ME THE GREEN (P. Lindeberg) and to the outside of HONORARY (R. Martin).
Approaching the 750 metres SILVER HALO had to be steadied off the heels of THE ANTEATER (D. Griffin) which shifted out slightly.
Rounding the home turn CENTROSE (A. Best) shifted out making contact with THE ANTEATER.
Leaving the 100 metres SILVER HALO had to be steadied off the heels of RAUTAI’S RISING (N. Day) which shifted in.
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to DEAD.
Race 4: Skilled Labour Hire Specialists Class 3 H’Cap – 1000m
1st – Mi Cielo 2nd – Rashini 3rd – Miss Mataya 4th – Wizard Prince
BLUSHING DANE (G. McCARTHY) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start RISEUPSINGING (N. Day) had to be steadied when shifting in and making contact with the hind quarters of LONGFIELD PALACE (M. Bennett) which was taken out by MI CIELO (App. M. Palmer).
Approaching the 750 metres RASHINI (L. Morrison) became unbalanced when it’s hind quarters were struck by CRACKAWAY (A. Merritt) which was inclined to lay out.
Approaching the 450 metres SESACIOUS (R. Martin) had to be momentarily steadied to the inside of WIZARD PRINCESS (D. Griffin) which was racing in restricted room to the inside of MISS MATAYA (C. Whiteley).
Approaching the 100 metres WIZARD PRINCESS had to be steadied off the heels of MI CIELO which shifted out. In this incident App. M. Palmer (MI CIELO) was reprimanded.
Race 5: Filter Tech 3YO & Up Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate – 1300m
1st – Beckinsale 2nd – Crackle Dash 3rd – Witchy Poo 4th – Lady Monashee
Correct weight was delayed to enable the connections of ROJAH LASS (D. Griffin) to ascertain if the mare was afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from starter G. Fanning and viewing the film stewards were of the opinion that ROJAH LASS had been afforded a fair start and was declared a runner.
ROJAH LASS reared as the gates opened resulting in D. Griffin becoming very unbalanced losing the use of his off side stirrup iron. Jockey D. Griffin was placed at a disadvantage for some distance. Trainer N. Flouskos was advised that ROJAH LASS must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to it’s next start.
MINNESOTA MAGIC (A. Best) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start LADY MONASHEE (B. Payne) had to be checked between WITCHY POO (N. Day) and CRACKLE DASH (G. Palmer) which was taken in by FIERY DAME (G. McCarthy).
Approaching the 700 metres LADY MONASHEE had to be steadied off the heels of STARK NAKED which was taken out by FIERY DAME.
CRACKLE DASH pulled hard in the middle stages.
BOLD MAHAL (C. Eaton) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 400 metres FIERY DAME (G. McCarthy) shifted out making contact with STARK NAKED (App. D. Peisley).
WITCHY POO was held up for clear running rounding the home turn until approaching the 200 metres.
Stewards questioned App. D. Peisley and trainer D. Raffin in relation to the riding tactics adopted on STARK NAKED as compared to it’s previous start when the filly raced further back in the field. App. D. Peisley stated that after beginning well he was unable to position the filly further back in the field as there appeared to be less speed than he had anticipated. App. D. Peisley further stated that STARK NAKED did not handle the track conditions at it’s previous start. Stewards noted his explanation.
Following the running of this event the track was further downgraded to a rating of SLOW.
Race 6: Regent Taxis Ltd Class 6 H’Cap – 2200m
1st – The Real Rokocoko 2nd – La Bella Mer 3rd – Darkside Lass 4th – Ears To Victory
LISTEN PAL (G. Palmer) lost it’s footing as the gates were opened losing ground.
LISTEN PAL blundered at the 1800 metres.
Approaching the 2000 metre mark THE REAL ROKOCOKO (D. Craven) which was overracing had to be steadied when tightened for room between DARKSIDE LASS (G. Auckram) which shifted out and FILIBEG (R. Martin) which was taken in by GENERAL SAM (A. Best).
Stewards questioned jockey G. Palmer and trainer J. Wallace’s representative in relation to the disappointing performance of LISTEN PAL. Jockey G. Palmer stated that after missing the start the gelding never felt comfortable in today’s track conditions and when called upon for an effort failed to respond to his riding. Trainer’s representative Mr M. Potter confirmed that LISTEN PAL did not appear to handle today’s shifting track conditions. A postrace veterinary examination of LISTEN PAL revealed no abnormality.
Race 7: The Spring Waterman Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Desert Train 2nd – Boisterous Boy 3rd – Mezzegie 4th – Eskimo Dan
Jockey C. Franklin was unable to fulfil his riding engagement due to being overweight and was replaced by A. Spinks as the rider of PRINCE CARTIER. C. Franklin was fined the sum of $100.00 under AR120(b).
ADVERSARY (G. McCarthy) which became fractious in the barriers reared as the gates opened losing ground. Trainer J. Morrisey was advised that ADVERSARY would have to pass an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to it’s next start in relation to the gelding’s barrier manners.
TELEMONT (B. Payne) and ADVERSARY raced wide throughout.
Race 8: Commerce Queensland Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Social Gathering 2nd – Anningoni 3rd – Ellay Confidential 4th – Catbird Seat
PRE COMMITMENT (G. Palmer) was declared a late scratching at 3.10 p.m. due to the downgrading of the track to slow. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that PRE COMMITMENT will now incur a slow or worse track rating bar.
At the start KANEISHA (G. McCarthy), BEAUBOROUGH (P. Hammersley) and TOCSIN (C. Eaton) were all tightened for room between ABERCORN (A. Best) and COUNT IVOR (A. Merritt) both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 650 metres MOJAVE BRAVE (S. Shield) had to be steadied off the heels of ANNIGONI (M. Bennett) which shifted out and away from the heels of SOCIAL GATHERING (R. Martin). In this incident M. Bennett was severely reprimanded and advised of his obligations when shifting ground.
COUNT IVOR and ABERCORN raced wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn SOCIAL GATHERING shifted out making contact with ELLAY CONFIDENTIAL (D. Green).
CIGALLO (D. Griffin) was held up for clear running from leaving the 350 metres until approaching the 250 metres.
Approaching the 100 metres REGAL RANSOM (App. D. Peisley) had to be steadied when tightened for room between CATBIRD SEAT (C. Whiteley) and CIGALLO which shifted in.
