KEVETTE overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.
TAKE TWO overraced in the middle stages of the race.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of TAKE TWO, which although overracing in the early stages yielded ground over the final 400 metres of the event, jockey K. Banks was of the opinion that the horse may have been jaded after having it’s third run in three (3) weeks.
Race 2: Leda Holdings Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’Cap — 1300m
1st — Magnetic Bay 2nd — Musketeer 3rd — Genuity 4th — Iron Fist
BUCKALEENIE (T. Treichel) began awkwardly resulting in the horse losing ground.
IRON FIST (D. Griffin) was slow to begin.
BUCKALEENIE, BOHEMIAN BOUNTY (C. Small), COMMANDER LOVE (D. Hayse) and SONNY DA SILVER (App M. Palmer) all overraced in the early stages.
Leaving the 800 metres IRON FIST (D. Griffin) shifted in and made contact with the running rail on two occasions causing the horse to become unbalanced.
Near the 600 metres BOHEMIAN BOUNTY shifted in forcing SONNY DA SILVER which was racing on the inside to make contact with the running rail.
BOHEMIAN BOUNTY again shifted in approaching the 500m metres which again resulted in SONNY DA SILVER making contact with the running rail. IRON FIST which was trailing behind SONNY DA SILVER at this time had to be steadied.
BUCKALEENIE was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
SONNY DA SILVER was inclined to shift out under pressure in the run to the finish.
Stewards questioned B. Swanton the rider of GENUITY regarding his returning to scale overweight. After considering his explanation stewards gave B. Swanton the benefit of the doubt and took no further action in the matter.
Race 3: Tern, Page Racing Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap — 1300m 1st — Mineshaft 2nd — Balzari 3rd — Modern Glamour 4th — Infinite Reality
WHAT A WORLD (M. Traecey) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.
MODERN GLAMOUR (C. Whiteley) which began awkwardly was tightened shortly after the start by BLIXTEN (App M. Palmer) which shifted out.
MODERN GLAMOUR was inclined to lay in and raced ungenerously over the final 300 metres of the event.
BLIXTEN hung out approaching the home turn. A postrace veterinary examination of BLIXTEN revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J. Traynor will be advised that BLIXTEN must barrier trial to the stewards’ satisfaction before racing again.
Stewards questioned P. Hammersley the rider of INFINITE REALITY regarding his failure to ride his mount out over the final 60 metres of the event. P. Hammersley explained he was of the opinion that the horse had injured itself approaching the 200m point and was concerned with the welfare of the horse over the final stages. A subsequent veterinary examination of INFINITE REALITY found the horse to be lame in the off hind leg and had a poor postrace recovery. In view of these circumstances stewards took no further action against P. Hammersley. Trainer J. Bayliss was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required before the horse races again.
When questioned regarding the tactic to go forward on BALZARI in today’s event compared to the manner in which the horse was ridden at it’s previous start on 9 September 2006 jockey M. Bennett advised that because the horse had drawn a better barrier than it’s previous start their intention was to put the horse in a forward position in today’s event. When questioned regarding the mailer trainer J. Morrisey advised it would be their intention to race the horse in a forward position in the future. Stewards noted their explanations.
The track was upgraded to GOOD after the running of this event.
