From GCTC, 16.9.07
Stewards today inquired into the reason for NOREIL being checked near the 300m in race 5 at the above meeting. After taking evidence from the riders concerned, M. Bennett, rider of WHO DEALT THIS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he shifted out near the 300m when insufficiently clear of NOREIL, resulting in that horse being checked. M. Bennett was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 20 September and to expire at midnight, 28 September. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account mitigating circumstances.

Jockey M. Bennett was reprimanded for failing to seek permission from the stewards prior to leaving the course at the above race meeting.

Approaching the 700m, EDWARD BEAR was momentarily tightened for room between THE VICTA, which shifted out, and EVERGREEN KID.

Nearing the 600m, EDWARD BEAR commenced to hang out and raced greenly over the concluding stages of the race. A warning was issued to the connections of EDWARD BEAR regarding its racing manners.

THE VICTA lost its near hind plate in running.

WATCHMEDANCEDADDY (Mat Palmer), which jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start, was hampered shortly after the start by NOVATEUR (D. Tanti), which shifted out.

THE MUSE (D. Barron) was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

Passing the 350m, JENN (D. Pires) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TOOTSIE ZYNSKY (T. Pannell), which shifted out to improve.

Near the 300m, TOOTSIE ZYNSKY (T. Pannell), when racing greenly, was inclined to lay in and had to be checked off the heels of NOVATEUR (D. Tanti), which had a tendency to lay out.

Passing the 250m, RIB TICKLER (D. Griffin) was disappointed for a run between JENN (D. Pires) and NOVATEUR (D. Tanti) and had to be eased to avoid the heels of NOVATEUR.

A post race veterinary examination of ONE LAST TANGO revealed that the filly had sustained a laceration to the off hind fetlock.

Race 3: Young Members – Only $60 3YO Maiden QTIS Plate – 1300m

Near the 200m, MARTINI PRINCESS faltered when racing in restricted room between LARRY’S BOY (J. Holder) and LAUREN’S HALO (Mat Palmer), which shifted in.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MARTINI PRINCESS, B. El-Issa stated that other than not backing up since its previous run, he could offer no explanation. Trainer B. Gentle was also at a loss to explain the poor performance. A post race veterinary examination of MARTINI PRINCESS failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from MARTINI PRINCESS.

A post race veterinary examination of LEGAL FEE revealed the colt to have sustained a laceration to the lateral canon on the off fore leg.

BEEBEEKAYE (J. Holder) and BURGUNDY PRINCE (J. Byrne) were a little slow to begin.

ANCIENT IMPULSE (D. Pires) was caught 3 wide after the start and obliged to race 3 wide for the entire race.

Approaching the 600m, MASHUDU (B. El-Issa) attempted to take a run to the inside of MR JUBILEE (L. Cheshire) where there was not fully sufficient room as MR JUBILEE was yielding ground.

Nearing the 400m, MASHUDU, when taking a tight run between TELLASECRET (J. Clarke) and the tiring MR JUBILEE (L. Cheshire), made contact with the hind quarters of MR JUBILEE, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced and being checked. B. El-Issa, rider of MASHUDU, was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was fully responsible for the incident.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BURGUNDY PRINCE, J. Byrne stated that the horse relaxed early in the race as in the past the horse has been inclined to pull hard. However when asked for an effort in the straight, the horse did not respond to his riding as expected and he felt something may have been amiss. A veterinary examination following the race revealed no abnormalities. Trainer’s representative Mr Scott Hammersley indicated that the stable would have further veterinary tests carried out when the horse had some time to recover from the race, and undertook to inform stewards of any abnormality that may come to light that may have had some bearing on the disappointing performance today. A post race veterinary examination of BURGUNDY PRINCE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that MR JUBILEE, which finished a considerable distance from the main body of the field, was lame in the near fore leg, and was suffering from respiratory distress. Trainer K. Fleming was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for MR JUBILEE prior to its next race start.
