Race 1: Coastal Tipper Hire QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1000m
1st – Sand Ruler 2nd – Tootsie Zynsky 3rd – Magic Promenade 4th – Novateur
As apprentice T. Chambers was unable to claim her full allowance, apprentice S. Holcombe was substituted as the rider of HEARTLAND. T. Chambers was fined $200.
The start was delayed due to KOOROONG AVENUE having to undergo farrier attention. When the horse was presented in the enclosure, KOOROONG AVENUE was found to have been incorrectly saddled by the trainer and the stewards therefore ordered the horse be withdrawn at 12.30 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on KOOROONG AVENUE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. Trainer T. Stevens subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR140A and fined $300, in that he presented KOOROONG AVENUE to the enclosure incorrectly saddled. Trainer T. Stevens was also placed on notice that should he again present a horse to the enclosure incorrectly saddled, he would be directed to show cause as to why his licence should not be downgraded or revoked.
AURANTIA (G. Colless) dislodged its off fore plate in the enclosure, which necessitated the colt being reshod prior to the start.
Trainer H. Page was advised that a warning was being placed on TOOTSIE ZYNSKY, which proved difficulty to load.
SWEET SASSI (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
NOVATEUR (R. McMahon) and HEARTLAND (S. Holcombe) came together on jumping away.
AURANTIA (G. Colless) was a little slow to begin and then raced greenly in the early stages.
Passing the 800m, SWEET SASSI commenced to hang out and near the 700m had to be steadied off the heels of FANTASTIC KID (S. Galloway). SWEET SASSI continued to hang out for some distance thereafter.
Rounding the home turn, AURANTIA was obliged to shift out off the heels of LEGALLY YOUR (M. Palmer).
A post race veterinary examination of AURANTIA revealed the colt to have pulled up sore in the off foreleg.
Race 2: Carlton Draught Goldmarket Raceday Sat 5 Jan 08 F&M Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Sandinista 2nd – Listerina 3rd –One Last Tango 4th – Diamond Cape
SANDINISTA (G. Colless) lost its off hind plate in running.
STALWART FREEZE (B. Agland) jumped outwards at the start, taking ZANGLIA (K. Forrester) out on to NEWSROOM (D. Griffin).
STALWART GARZA (S. Holcombe) and DESPERATES (M. Palmer) jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1100m, SIMPLY HIGH (T. Chambers), which was racing ungenerously, shifted in and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of NEWSROOM, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. SIMPLY HIGH then raced ungenerously for a short distance.
STALWART GARZA raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Coastal Concrete Services CG&E Maiden Plate Div 1 – 1200m
1st – Charming Rogue 2nd – Renmark 3rd – Raincoat 4th – Dance Machine
Trainer J. Heather was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for WATCHA POCO by the prescribed time.
MOON QUEST (K. Forrester) and NO HOLDING BACK (L. Rolls), which jumped away awkwardly, came together at the start.
TEN CORONAS (P. Hammersley), which was a little slow to begin, jumped away awkwardly.
RAINCOAT (S. Galloway) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with LOVMIEKO (J. Clarke).
Shortly after the start, MOON QUEST (K. Forrester) shifted out and made contact with NO HOLDING BACK (L. Rolls).
Rounding the first turn, WATCHA POCO (D. Barron) shifted out abruptly, forcing RENMARK (W. Pearson) and JUNCTION BRIDGE (S. Seamer) wider on the track.
RENMARK, JUNCTION BRIDGE and MOON QUEST were forced to race wide for the majority of the race.
Rounding the home turn, MOURNFUL (L. Cheshire) had to be steadied when tightened for room between THE BRAVE ONE (E. Wilkinson) and NO HOLDING BACK (L. Rolls), which shifted out. L. Rolls, rider of NO HOLDING BACK was reprimanded.
Near the 200m, TEN CORONAS (P. Hammersley) shifted out to improve, hampering THE BRAVE ONE (E. Wilkinson). P. Hammersley, rider of TEN CORONAS, was advised to exercise more care.
Passing the 200m, RALPHIE (B. El-Issa) shifted in, tightening the weakening LOOKIN’ BACK LUCKY (M. Palmer).
MOURNFUL had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
A post race veterinary examination of RALPHIE (B. El-Issa) revealed the horse to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer M. Thexton was advised she must produce a veterinary clearance for RALPHIE prior to its next race start.
JUNCTION BRIDGE bled during the event. Trainer B. Gentle was advised that the gelding would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 4: WLF Enterprises C,G&E Maiden Plate Div 2 – 1200m
1st – Black Morgan 2nd – Wyreema 3rd – Mossman Bay 4th – Red Treasure
Trainer G. Heinrich was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for RIB TICKLER by the prescribed time.

Race 5: Magic Millions Carnival March 2008 QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Rare Diamond 2nd – Tears’n’cheers 3rd – Posting 4th - Crevasse
RARE DIAMOND (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly.
SETA OMBRA (B. El-Issa), which was a little slow to begin, shifted in at the start, making contact with CREVASSE (L. Morrison).
Shortly after the start, CREVASSE (L. Morrison) commenced to race greenly and did so for the remainder of the race, and rounding the home turn hung out, forcing IT’S ALL RIGHT (D. Barron) wider on the track. Trainer B. Laming was advised that a warning was being placed on CREVASSE regarding its racing manners.
Race 6: Amalgamated Painting Class 2 H’cap 900m
1st – Forever Autumn 2nd – City Lights 3rd – Adventurous Angel 4th – Allroar
JACARANDA HOPE (R. McMahon) and MONMAGIC (A. Taylor) came together on jumping away.
ALLROAR (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.
CITY LIGHTS (G. Colless) and SEA OF DAVID (K. Banks) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Midway Metals Pty Ltd Open H’cap – 900m
1st – Babinda Half 2nd – How Good Is She 3rd – Black Suit 4th - Denmarket
Trainers R. Bradshaw was fined $100 for negligence in that he declared jockey S. Shield as the rider of BABINDA HALF without having a firm engagement. As S. Shield was subsequently unable to fulfil the engagement, K. Wharton was substituted as the rider of that horse.
Trainer D. Kelly was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for DENMARKET by the prescribed time.
SUUBIRD (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
In the early stages of the straight, J. Taylor endeavoured to bring SUUBIRD to the outside to obtain clear running, however the mare was reluctant to shift out due to its tendency to lay in.
Race 8: $95 Membership 1 Jan 08 Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Woody ‘N’ Buzz 2nd – Fangles 3rd – Chilli Magic 4th – Dreaming Cash
Trainer S. Jones was fined $100 for presenting FANGLES to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
CHILLI MAGIC (D. Griffin) sprawled on jumping away. A short distance later, MONA STAR (P. Hammersley) was tightened for room between HAZERATION (J. Taylor) and CHILLI MAGIC (D. Griffin), both of which shifted ground.
WOODY ‘N’ BUZZ (G. Colless) was slow to begin.
JACKIE JU JUBE (D. Hayse) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
A short distance later, CHILLI MAGIC (D. Griffin) shifted in and brushed WAR EAGLE (L. Morrison). WAR EAGLE then shifted out, making contact with CHILLI MAGIC, which in turn made heavy contact with MONA STAR (P. Hammersley).
Passing the 800m, SHUDULE GEE (J. Clarke) improved up on to the heels of HOLLOW MOUNTAIN (L. Rolls) and had to be checked.
Approaching the 700m, WOODY ‘N’ BUZZ (G. Colless) improved up on to the heels of DREAMING CASH (T. Chambers) and had to be steadied.
Near the 700m, DOPPELT (A. Spinks) had to be steadied when tightened for room by SHUDULE GEE (J. Clarke), which shifted in. Apprentice J. Clarke, rider of SHUDULE, was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear.
Rounding the home turn, MONA STAR (P. Hammersley) improved up on to the heels of HOLLOW MOUNTAIN (L. Rolls) and was obliged to alter course.
Approaching the 300m, LACHLAN VALLEY (W. Pearson) had to be steadied off the heels of SIGNAL (A. Pattillo) after being taken out slightly by HAZERATION (J. Taylor).
P. Hammersley, rider of MONA STAR, accidentally dropped his whip near the 350m.
Passing the 300m, WAR EAGLE (L. Morrison) shifted out to improve around the heels of LAKE LUGANO (J. Byrne) and in doing so made contact with FORTUNATE CHOICE (M. Palmer). WAR EAGLE and FORTUNATE CHOICE then made contact on several occasions. L. Morrison, rider of WAR EAGLE, was advised to exercise more care.
A post race veterinary examination of LAKE LUGANO failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 9: Live Racing New Years Day Tues 1 Jan Class 3 Plate – 1400m
1st – Bernardo 2nd – Boisterous Boy 3rd – Mr Beanwater 4th – Fools Rush In
GLOGIRL (L. Cheshire) and MOMFASA (J. Taylor) came together on jumping away.
BERNADO (J. Byrne) and KING LYPHARD (L. Rolls) also bumped at the start.
Approaching the 800m, BERNARDO (J. Byrne) had to be steadied when tightened for room by KING LYPHARD, which was taken in by FOOLS RUSH IN (B. El-Issa). B. El-Issa, rider of FOOLS RUSH IN, was reprimanded. GLOGIRL, which was following, also had to be steadied.
BERNARDO then overraced for a short distance thereafter.
GLOGIRL (L. Cheshire) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
BRAMBLETYE (G. Colless), BOISTEROUS BOY (A. Pattillo) and LOADED TYCOON (D. Spriggs) were all forced to race wide throughout.
