Race 1: Schoolies.Com Maiden Plate – 1000m.
1st – Sweed 2nd – Three Little Words 3rd – Once More Brother 4th – Singing Sands

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for S. Drake failing to fulfil her riding engagement on ONCE MORE BROTHER.

YEAH GOOD (K. Forrester) and THREE LITTLE WORDS (App L. Dittman) were slow to begin.

YEAH GOOD and PRECEPTION BAY (D. Tanti) were both held up for clear running for majority of the straight.

CURSOL (M. Paget) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Leaving the 400m PRECEPTION BAY (D. Tanti) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of SWEET MAGIC (C. Reith) and THREE LITTLE WORDS which was taken in by SWEED (T. Pannell).

Near the 300m MISS BRASCHI (App J. Clarke) and THREE LITTLE WORDS were tightened for room when racing between CURSOL and SWEET MAGIC. It was established that MISS BRASCHI which was racing ungenerously shifted in at that point making contact with THREE LITTLE WORDS which then shifted in bumping SWEET MAGIC. Stewards deemed the incident to be a combination of factors with no one rider or horse fully responsible.
Race 2: Nerang RSL Club QTIS 3YO Maiden H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – Leapfrog 2nd – Kamadiva 3rd – Pyper’s Image 4th - Notevenow

A. Nutley trainer of JOYFUL LADY was fined the sum of $100.00 for late declaration of rider.

ELSHAMAH was inspected by the Club’s veterinary surgeon at the barriers after blood was found in the gelding’s mouth. After examination ELSHAMAH was passed fit to start.

JOYFUL LADY (M. Traecey) and BAY MINSTREL (K. Forrester) were slow to begin.

SETA OMBRA (T. Pannell) and BIANAMUST (D. Coleman) were tightened on jumping away between DUBAI BELLE (App J. Quinnell) and LEAPFROG (App L. Rolls) both of which shifted in.

ARABIAN MOON (L. Cheshire) overraced in the early stages of the event.

Approaching the 600m NOTEVENOW (D. Tanti) improved up onto the heels of SPECKS OF MAGIC (C. Reith) and had to be steadied.

Near the 300m ARABIAN MOON shifted out to improve and in doing so made heavy contact with SPECKS OF MAGIC.


Race 3: R J Beaufils Maiden H’Cap – 1300m.
1st – Grandprix Ichiban 2nd – Propheteer 3rd – Deputation 4th – Back of Beyond

IMPERIAL GROUCH (K. Forrester) was slow to begin.

App J. Quinnell the rider of GRANDPRIX ICHIBAN pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1100m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PROPHETEER (App C. Isdale) which resulted in PROPHETEER shifting in across the line of RAPIDE GESTE (M. Paget) which was forced in resulting in ENFORCEABLE (L. Cheshire) being checked losing it’s rightful position. App J. Quinnell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings.

Near the 1000m ESTRELLITO (App M. Chadwick) improved up onto the heels of DEPUTATION (App L. Rolls) and had to be steadied.

GRANDPRIX ICHIBAN (App J. Quinnell) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned C. Whiteley regarding his riding of PETESAKE over the final 300m of the event. Whilst C. Whiteley explained that he was initially held up to the inside of runners that were yielding ground which prevented him from moving wider on the track and he therefore elected to take a run on the inside of ZEDZED (D. Coleman) however, near the 200m that run closed when ZEDZED shifted back to the rail which resulted in PETESAKE being held up for clear running for the remainder of the event. Stewards noted his explanation. A post race veterinary examination of PETESAKE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

DEPUTATION cast its off hind plate in running.


Race 4: Marshall Freeman Maiden H’Cap – 1300m.
1st – My First Lady 2nd – Divic Fire D/Heat 3rd – Je Suis Rockstar & Way Too Hot
D/Heat 5th – Team Thunderstone & Truthful

DESPERATES (App J. Clarke) began awkwardly.

LITTLE BOBBY (C. Small) and TEAM THUNDERSTONE (D. Tanti) were tightened on jumping away between JE SUIS ROCKSTAR (App J. Quinnell) and MORDANE (C. Whiteley) which was taken out by MY FIRST LADY (M. Paget).

Near the 1000m MANAWIN (K. Forrester) was momentarily tightened for room and had to be steadied when WAY TOO HOT (N. Day) shifted in.

Near the 800m WAY TOO HOT was tightened for room by LITTLE BOBBY which shifted in. C. Small the rider of LITTLE BOBBY was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Approaching the 600m MANAWIN shifted out and bumped BLACKJACK BILL (G. Baker).

L. Cheshire the rider of DIVIC FIRE was cautioned for the manner in which she took a run between MY FIRST LADY and JE SUIS ROCKSTAR over the final 200m where there was doubtful racing room.


Race 5: Granite Transformations Class 3 H’Cap – 1800m.
1st – Gold Strategy 2nd – Bald Eagle 3rd – Loaded Tycoon 4th – Glogirl

GLOGIRL (T. Pannell) was slow to begin.

LOADED TYCOON (G. Baker) overraced in the early stages.

LOADED TYCOON had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and 100m



Race 6: Jafrika Internationals Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – Bet ‘N’ Barney 2nd – Washed 3rd – Jeppetto 4th – My Rendition

J. Smith the trainer of TAMASHI PRINCE was fined the sum of $100.00 under AR175(k) when found to be negligent for not properly engaging the rider for that runner.

JEPPETTO (D. Green) and TAMASHI PRINCE (M. Hellyer) were tightened on jumping away between FEMME LIEN (App T. Chambers) and WASHED (C. Reith) which was taken in by DOMINUS LORD (N. Day).

Leaving the 800m BHAGWANITA (M. Paget) was momentarily tightened for room when racing to the inside of LADY ILLUSION (D. Tanti) which shifted in.

MY RENDITION (App L. Rolls) raced wide for the majority of the event.

BHAGWANITA had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
Leaving the 300m LADY ILLUSION had to be steadied off the heels of FEMME LIEN which shifted out to improve.

Leaving the 100m BHAGWANITA was tightened for room between FEMME LIEN and DOMINUS LORD (N. Day) which was taken out by JEPPETTO. D. Green the rider of JEPPETTO was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out at that point.



Race 7: Sporting Heroes & Legends Class 4 H’Cap – 1200m.
1st – Falzig 2nd – Rotarian 3rd – Mona Star 4th –Heart Of The Lion

LEICA PLATEAU (C. Whiteley) was slow to begin.

ROTARIAN (App L. Rolls) and FALZIG (App L. Dittman) came together and bumped on a number of occasions over the final 200m.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LEICA PLATEAU jockey C. Whiteley stated that the horse after missing the start and despite considerable urging throughout running failed to make any significant ground. Stewards also questioned trainer P. McLeod who stated that the horse races best when positioned on the speed and as shown on previous occasions the horse fails to race truly if it loses ground in the early stages of the event. A post race veterinary examination of LEICA PLATEAU failed to reveal any abnormalities.


Race 8: Advancetown Hotel-Motel Class 3 H’Cap – 900m.
1st – Youcantseeme 2nd – Mary’s Magique 3rd – Slugsbrothernugget 4th – Chief Harrigan

TRIXIZAR was declared a late scratching at 3.56 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after the horse was extremely fractious in the barriers after proving difficult to load. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on TRIXIZAR were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 33 cents in the dollar for a win and 21 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer B. Guy’s representative was advised that TRIXIZAR must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before racing again. After consultation with the betting supervisor the deductions were amended to read: 35 cents in the dollar for a place and 22 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. A post race veterinary examination of the mare revealed a laceration to the off hind pastern and multiple abrasions both hind legs.

CENQUALO (K. Forrester) was slow to begin.

DECIBELLA (M. Hellyer) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 250m.

M. Hellyer the rider of DECIBELLA was stood down by the Club’s doctor following the running of this event after injuring his knee in the barrier and was substituted by App J. Quinnell as the rider of BENRAGAZZO in Race 9. M. Hellyer was advised that he will require a medical certificate before being permitted to ride again.



Race 9: Gold Coast City Cup Day August 23 @ Gold Coast Turf Club Class 2 H’Cap –1400m.
1st – Fastnstraight 2nd – The Sunshine Man 3rd – Rock Slide 4th – Manuka Honey

K. Purdy was replaced by C. Whiteley after being injured at the track this morning. K. Purdy will require a medical certificate before being permitted to ride again.

SACRED HEART (N. Day) was slow into stride.

MANUKA HONEY (C. Whiteley) overraced in the early stages of the event.

Near the 800m LEGAL GIANT (K. Forrester) shifted out to improve and in doing so forced ROCK SLIDE (App L. Rolls) wider on the track.

ROCK SLIDE and LEGAL GIANT came together and bumped near the 700m. It was noted that ROCK SLIDE was forced to race wide for the remainder of the event.

Near the 200m FASTNSTRAIGHT (C. Reith) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped THE SUNSHINE MAN (G. Baker).

App J. Quinnell the rider of BENRAGAZZO pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in on the home turn when insufficiently clear of FASTNSTRAIGHT which shifted in causing ORIGUN ROLL (M. Traecey) and SACRED HEART to be checked. App J. Quinnell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) meetings to commence midnight 12 August 2008 and to expire midnight 24 August 2008. Stewards ordered that this penalty be served concurrently with the suspension incurred in Race 3.

MAYBE BOLD cast its near hind plate in running.
