Rounding the 1600m turn TEAM THUNDERSTONE was obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance between DEPUTATION (App. L Rolls) and LEGAL FEE (D Barron).

Near the 600m LEGAL FEE which was inclined to lay in, shifted in and made contact with DEPUTATION (App. L Rolls).

LEGAL FEE was held up for clear running for a short distance upon entering the home straight.

CLASSY FELIX had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages of the event.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of IN THE CLINK, App. O Turpin stated that he was obliged to make use of the horse in the early stages to obtain its customary leading position, then over-raced in the early stages of the event. App. Turpin further stated that IN THE CLINK was having its first start over this distance of 1800m and he felt that this also had had an effect on the horse’s overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination of IN THE CLINK revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. 1st – Mystical Knight 2nd – South Grafton 3rd – Brookie Babe 4th – Steal The Cash

Prior to the announcement of ‘correct weight’ Stewards considered an application from stable foreman, S Morrissey, to have FU BELLE (App. L Rolls) declared a non-runner on the grounds that FU BELLE was not afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from the Starter, S Andrews, and App. L Rolls and viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, Stewards found that as a result of the horse’s fractiousness it had reared as the start was effected and had lost considerable ground. In considering the matter Stewards found that at no stage was FU BELLE denied a fair start and accordingly declared the horse a runner. Trainer, Mr J Morrissey’s representative, was advised that FU BELLE must obtain a further Barrier Certificate before its next race start.

A short distance later LOADED TYCOON shifted out slightly resulting in KENTISH ROSE making contact with the hindquarters of FOOLS RUSH IN and as a consequence that horse became unbalanced and shifted in, further tightening the running of KENTISH ROSE which had to be checked. Stewards took no direct action other than to advise Jockey M Bennett and App. J Jones to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
