Race 1: Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea Friday 19 June QTIS 2YO Maiden H’cap – 1200m.
1st – Surf’s Up 2nd – Moonlight Hussey 3rd – Sequiz 4th – Irish Guard
Trainer F Braybrook was fined the sum of $100 for late notification of rider for HEADS OR TAILS (R Hurley).
CLEATS (L Cheshire) was slow to begin.
EXPLODING (K Forrester) began awkwardly.
Approaching the 1100m DIENEKES (App. M Palmer) had to steady off the heels of IRISH GUARD (G Baker) which shifted in.
Near the 1000m HEADS OR TAILS (R Hurley) had to be steadied off the heels of IVAN’S CHOICE (D Green) which shifted in. DIENEKES also had to be eased as a consequence.
GOODTOBETHEQUEEN (D Griffin) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.
SURF’S UP (App. J Jones) raced wide for the majority of the event.
DIENEKES and GOODTOBETHEQUEEN were held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
EXPLODING was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until leaving the 200m.
Approaching 200m GOODTOBETHEQUEEN was crowded for room when racing between BURJ DUBAI (C Small) and HEADS OR TAILS which shifted in under pressure.
Race 2: Wanless Enviro Services Fillies and Mares Maiden H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Hidden Cove 2nd – Jess Sar Belle 3rd – Zulu Queen 4th – El Fantasy
Trainer L Hatch was fined $50 for presenting CATCH KATHLEEN to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
LADY SARAH (App. S Stanbridge) was slow to begin.
XENA’S LAST ACT (App. S Bogenhuber) began awkwardly.
ZA LOVETT (D Griffin) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.
Near the 800m CATCH KATHLEEN (G Baker) and MISS PANDORA (App. B Looker) came together and bumped.
Near the 700m MISS PANDORA improved up on to the heels of HIDDEN COVE (T Pannell) and had to be steadied. XENA’S LAST ACT, QUEEN EVITA (App. T Chambers) and ZA LOVETT which were trailing also had to be eased as a consequence.
Leaving the 500m JESS SAR BELLE shifted out to improve and in doing so forced ZULU QUEEN (D Green) wider on the track.
Leaving the 200m MISS PANDORA and CATCH KATHLEEN (G Baker) came together and bumped.
App. S Stanbridge was dislodged from LADY SARAH after the event. After examination by medical staff, App. Stanbridge was cleared to fulfil is remaining riding engagements.
A post-race veterinary examination of QUEEN EVITA failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
Race 3: Wanless Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden H’cap – 1400m.
1st - Preferences 2nd – Go Gerry 3rd – Royal Page Boy 4th - Kalbo
App. B Looker was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on VICTORY JACK.
PIERES (App. M Hellyer) and VICTORY JACK (App. B Looker) made contact on jumping away.
AURANTIA (T Pannell) was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PIERES, App. M Hellyer said that the gelding travelled fairly until put under pressure leaving the 400m. A veterinary examination of PIERES found the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer B Guy’s representative was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before PIERES again races.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of AURANTIA, Jockey T Pannell said the gelding was under pressure after 400m of the race and as he was extremely concerned with the physical condition of AURANTIA he eased it down over the final 200m. However, a veterinary examination of AURANTIA failed to find any abnormalities at the time of the examination. Trainer G Heinrich’s representative, Mr Peter Keating, could offer no tangible explanation for the gelding’s performance. AURANTIA was declared ineligible to start until it shows by satisfactory barrier trial, it can perform to the desired manner.
Race 4: Smartskip Open H’cap – 1800m.
1st - Clavillo 2nd – Little Imp 3rd - Rebounded 4th - Currigee
LATIN IDOL (App. Michael Palmer) and PHAZE ACTION (G Baker) were slow to begin.
CURRIGEE (T Pannell) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PHAZE ACTION, Jockey G Baker said the gelding never travelled well throughout running and failed to respond to his riding over the last 600m. He further stated that he was extremely disappointed with PHAZE ACTION’s performance. Trainer’s representative, Mr M Campbell, stated that PHAZE ACTION was a dour stayer and in his opinion was left somewhat flat-footed when the pace of the race quickened from the 600m. Stewards noted the explanations.
Race 5: Wanless Recycling Class 6 H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Isla Xaar 2nd - Prisons 3rd - Superfly 4th – Fond Bond
UNDER CONSTRUCTION (T Pannell) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 600m BORN TO HUNT (App. J Wood) was momentarily crowded for room by SUPERFLY which shifted in.
SUPERFLY (App. M Hellyer) was inclined to shift in under pressure over the final 200m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BORN TO HUNT, App. J Wood, said the mare travelled only moderately and was off the bit and under pressure mid-race. A post-race veterinary examination of BORN TO HUNT failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer S Ryan’s representative was advised that BORN TO HUNT must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before the mare’s next race start.
Race 6: Wanless Metal Recyclers Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 H’cap – 1200m.
1st – Mr Nappy 2nd – Beyond The Limit 3rd – Tuscon Rain 4th – South Grafton
ACADEMY MAGIC (App. J Wood) began awkwardly resulting in the gelding losing valuable ground.
ENCOSTICATED (D Griffin) was slow to begin.
CHARACTER BUILDING (App. L Rolls) and KNEBWORTH (K Forrester) made contact on jumping away.
AUSCOAL (N Seymour) and KNEBWORTH were both caught wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Wanless 13 Waste Fillies and Mares Class 1 H’cap – 1200m.
1st - Sevenspanishangels 2nd – Peaceful Belle 3rd - Malesia 4th – Climate Change
PEACEFUL BELLE (T Pannell) and CLIMATE CHANGE (App. L Rolls) were both inspected at the barriers after each filly was kicked by MALESIA (N Seymour). After examination both fillies were passed fit to start.
The start of the race was delayed to allow MALESIA to be inspected by the veterinary surgeon after the mare hit its head in the barriers. After examination MALESIA was passed fit to start.
TAMALIE (App. B Looker) began awkwardly.
MALESIA was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages of the event.
Leaving the 800m TAMALIE which was inclined to over-race had to be steadied off the heels of MALESIA which was taken in by MISS LARKSPUR (G Baker).
SEVENSPANISHANGELS (App. M Speers) and CRACK THE KITTY (D Green) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 600m WEDDING NIGHT (App. J Wood) had to be steadied off the heels of CRACK THE KITTY which shifted in.
TAMALIE and DEALT A DIAMOND (K Forrester) both had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 200m.
Race 8: Wanless Environmental Class 2 H’cap – 1800m.
1st - Tanae Amber 2nd - Hindsight 3rd – Channel Crossing 4th – Loaded Tycoon
LAURINEL BEAUTY (L Cheshire) and EEDEEAL (App. M Hellyer) were slow to begin.
Approaching the 1600m MORE THAN PRIMED (App. J Jones) and ZAHNOOCHI (App. M Speers) came together and made contact.
Near the 1500m LAURINEL BEAUTY had to steady off the heels of CANADIAN POPPY (D Green) which shifted in.
AFFRONT (App. M Palmer) and BLISTERING MISS (K Forrester) both raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 1200m MORE THAN PRIMED improved up on to the heels of BENTLEY BLUE (D Griffin) and had to be steadied and as a consequence CHANNEL CROSSING (App. J Wood) had to be steadied and shifted out inconveniencing CANADIAN POPPY and BLISTERING MISS.
Near the 800m LOADED TYCOON (K Purdy) improved up on to the heels of BENTLEY BLUE.
Jockey K Purdy (LOADED TYCOON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting her mount to shift out leaving the 300m when insufficiently clear of EEDEEAL which resulted in EEDEEAL being checked. Jockey Purdy was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 13/06/2009 and to expire midnight 24/06/2009.
