SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As A. Merritt and A. Badger were both injured at trackwork stewards permitted the rider replacements as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
As App M. Hellyer was delayed en route to the course stewards permitted the rider replacements as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
App M. Speers was fined the sum of $300.00 for having a mobile phone in the jockeys room under the provisions of AR160B(3).
Race 1: Currumbin Creek Taven QTIS 2YO H’ .
1st – Purettan 2nd – Piccali 3rd – Reduplication 4th – Comzelita
As there were no available apprentices to replace App M. Hellyer stewards permitted C. Franklin to be substituted as the rider of ALETHEIA.
MONDEAN was declared a late scratching at 12.49 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice when the horse suffered injuries after being fractious in the barriers. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on MONDEAN were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 25 cents in the dollar for a win and 18 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer R. Pereira’s representative was advised that a barrier certificate must be obtained before MONDEAN again races.
INCARNATE which was in an adjoining barrier to MONDEAN was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
INCARNATE (D. Barron) was slow to begin.
PICCALI (M. Traecy) and MAYALBE (D. Tanti) made contact on jumping away and again shortly after the start.
MILITARY FLYER (N. Seymour) which began awkwardly was further crowded for room shortly after the start between ALETHEIA (C. Franklin) and COMZELITA (K. Forrester), both of which shifted ground.
CHENKA STAR (App E. Kehoe) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
REDUPLICATION bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which REDUPLICATION had bled, it will incur a lifetime ban from racing. A swab sample was taken.
Race 2: Wallaby Hotel Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Dienekes 2nd – I’m A Lady 3rd – Pink Sapphire 4th - Sequiz
Due to transport difficulties SIZE ZERO was declared a late scratching at 11.47 a.m.
As there were no available apprentices to replace App M. Hellyer stewards permitted M. Traecey to be substituted as the rider of PINK SAPPHIRE.
STREET WISE was declared a late scratching at 1.23 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice when the horse was found to be sore in the off fore leg. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on STREET WISE were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 3 cents in the dollar for a win and 4 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer H. Wilson was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required before the horse again races.
I’M A SINGLE LADY (D. Barron) which was slow to begin was further tightened for room between PENRIQUE (C. Small) and SILVER SKY (G. Baker), which shifted out after making contact with SEQUIZ (App J. Jones).
DIENEKES (D. Tanti) and DELEZIO (T. Treichel) came together on jumping away.
Leaving the 800m RAGING FORTIES (K. Forrester) overraced on the heels of SEQUIZ.
OUR DAY WILL COME (App M. Wood) raced greenly in the middle stages of the event.
Approaching the 200m COTTON ON FIRE (App E. Kehoe) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with TZANANN (C. Franklin) which shifted out causing OUR DAY WILL COME to be inconvenienced.
Leaving the 200m COTTON ON FIRE was crowded for room and had to be steadied when racing between RAGING FORTIES (K. Forrester) and CLEATS (B. Hull) which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
A post race veterinary examination of SILVER SKY revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer R. Kirwin’s representative was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before SILVER SKY again races.
Race 3: Treetops Tavern Class 6 Plate – 2200m
1st – Shale Shaker 2nd – Bold Distinction 3rd – Mister Tivoli 4th - Morongla
SHALE SHAKER (App M. Wood) and ANOTHER ALI (G. Baker) were both slow to begin.
DERRY CITY (App J. Jones) and LATIN IDOL (D. Tanti) made contact on jumping away.
SHALE SHAKER raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
MORONGLA overraced in the early stages.
SHALE SHAKER shifted out rounding the home turn taking BOLD DISTINCTION (App M. Speers) wider on the track.
App M. Speers was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in resulting in MORONGLA C. Small) being tightened for racing room approaching the turn into the back straight at the 1600m.
Near the 100m LATIN IDOL was crowded for room when racing between DERRY CITY and MORONGLA (C. Small), which shifted in.
MISTER TIVOLI (D. Griffin) was inclined to lay in over the final 200m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ANOTHER ALI jockey G. Baker stated that the horse travelled well until the 600m point and although it was obliged to race wide over the latter stages of the race he was disappointed with the overall performance. Trainer J. Mahoney confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance and advised that consideration was being given to reviewing the racing program of ANOTHER ALI. A veterinary examination of ANOTHER ALI revealed no abnormalities.
Following the running of this event App J. Jones was stood down by the Club’s Doctor and replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 4: Surfers Paradise Rotary Club Mockridge Memorial 3YO & Up Class 1 H’Cap – 900m
1st – Strumming 2nd – King Dod D/Heat 3rd – Tonkatsu & Mr Sugaray 5th – Karma Getya
Trainer D. Kelly was fined the sum of $50.00 for presenting MADAGASCAR to the enclosure with the incorrect gear.
The start of this race was delayed as a result of BELLO BANJO (App M. Wood) having to be resaddled at the barriers. TONKATSU (D. Griffin) further delayed the start when the horse was fractious in the barriers.
MADAGASCAR (D. Tanti) was slow to begin.
KARMA GETYA (C. Small) and BANNETT (T. Treichel) made heavy contact on jumping away causing KARMA GETYA to become unbalanced.
STONER (App M. Hellyer) and BELLO BANJO made contact on jumping away.
Approaching the 800m CLAYTON (G. Baker) and STRUMMING (App B. Looker) were tightened for room between BELLO BANJO and BENNY EGGS (App M. Speers), both of which shifted ground.
STONER was held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.
Prior to correct weight being declared the Judge contact stewards to advise that as per the provisions of AR156(1) he had amended the placings as follows:-

Race 5: Australian Leisure & Hospitality (ALH) Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Oigles 2nd – Tora San 3rd – Sweed 4th – Sam’s Gift
Trainer G. Heinrich was fined the sum of $50.00 as a result of HAHNEMANN being presented to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
The start of this race was delayed as a result of BE GLORIOUS (App M. Wood) and HAHNEMANN (T. Treichel) both proving difficult to load.
FENNEC FOX (B. Hull) and GRAND GOODWAY (D. Tanti) made contact on jumping away.
OIGLES (D. Griffin) was tightened on jumping away between SAM’S GIFT (C. Franklin) and SHAMROCKVALE (G. Baker), which shifted out.
SWEED (M. Traecey) began akwardly.
Approaching the 600m SWEED (M. Traecey) overraced on the heels of NOVA CHENKA (D. Barron) and had to be steadied.
Near the 250m BE GLORIOUS when endeavouring to obtain clear running improved up onto the heels of BAY TRIXIE (App M. Hellyer) and had to be steadied.
Near the 100m BE GLORIOUS was crowded for room when racing to the inside of BAY TRIXIE, which shifted in under pressure.
Race 6: Sky Racing Class 4 H’Cap – 1000m
1st – Tootsie Zynsky 2nd – Slugsbrothernugget 3rd – Periander 4th – Worth Doing
OUR VOLTAGE (K. Forrester) which was slow to begin was further tightened for room between SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (G. Baker), which was taken in by TOOTSIE ZYNSKY (T. Treichel) and PERIANDER (App E. Kehoe), which was taken out by DE BUSINESS (D. Griffin).
DE BUSINESS (D. Griffin) raced wide for the majority of the event.
App M. Wood the rider of SHUDULE GEE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in approaching the 100m resulting in SNIPPET STREET (C. Small) being forced in causing ROTARIAN (B. Hull) and PAT ATTACK (L. Roberts) to be checked. App M. Wood’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 4 July 2009 and expire at midnight 17 July 2009.
SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (G. Baker) and PERIANDER (App. E. Kehoe) were both held up for clear running on entering the straight.
OUR VOLTAGE cast its near fore plate during running.
Race 7: Queensland Hotel Association (QHA) Class 3 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Kids Show 2nd – Mossvana 3rd – Grand Corso 4th – Isla Xaar
LEICA PLATEAU was declared a late scratching at 4.02 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice when the horse was found to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer P. McLeod’s representative was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the horse again races.
DALAI (M. Traecey) and KIDS SHOW (App E. Kehoe) were both slow to begin.
ISLA XAAR (K. Forrester) was tightened on jumping away between USTINO A GIRL (G. Baker) and GRAND CORSO (T. Treichel), both of which shifted ground.
SIRENA LIGERA (App. M. Speers) began akwardly.
UNCONQUERABLE (N. Seymour) had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
Near the 100m MORE THAN PRIMED (B. Hull) was tightened for room between VINTAGE MO (App M. Hellyer) and DALAI (M. Treacey) which shifted in.
USTINO A GIRL, GRAND CORSO and KIDS SHOW all raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SIRENA LIGERA App M. Speers stated that the horse began awkwardly and shifted out. He further stated he was concerned that as the horse raced only moderately thereafter he was concerned that the horse may have injured itself in this incident at the start hence he eased the horse down over the final 200m when the horse was no longer competitive. Trainer L. Birchley’s representative agreed with the statement of App M. Speers. A veterinary examination of SIRENA LIGERA revealed no abnormalities at the time of examination. Stewards will consult with the trainer regarding the horse’s post race recovery.
USTINO A GIRL was inspected by the Club’s veterinary surgeon after the event after blood was detected in both nostrils. The veterinary surgeon was of the opinion that the injury was as a result of the horse making contact with the barrier stalls prior to the start.
POST SCRIPT REPORT - 6 July 2009
Advice was received today from L. Birchley the trainer of SIRENA LIGERA that the filly was sore in the sacroiliac area and consideration was being given to spelling the horse after treatment. A veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the horse again races.
