Race 1: Rainbow Bay Surf Lifesaving Club 4YO & Up Maiden H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Joyeux Joy 2nd – Singin The Blues 3rd – Stash 4th – Flawless

PUBLIC IMAGE (M Traecey) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

JOYEUX JOY (K Purdy) jumped awkwardly and shifted out and made contact with FORTUNE WINNER (D Griffin) which in turn was taken out on to the hindquarters of SINGIN THE BLUES (App. S Stanbridge).

JOYEUX JOY was held up and unable to improve until passing the 200m.

Jockey R McMahon (STASH) was issued with a reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

App. S Stanbridge (SINGIN THE BLUES) was issued with a reprimand under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 2: Xycrete Concrete Waterproofing QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate Set Weights – 1400m.
1st - Piccali 2nd – Rapid Leica Jacko 3rd – Bush Larrikin 4th – Show Us A Win

Shortly after the start BUSH LARRIKIN (D Griffin), GET UP SAL (K Forrester) and GOTELLIT (T O’Sullivan) were all hampered when tightened for room between SHOW US A WIN (R McMahon) which shifted out and GET FREE (D Green) which shifted in.

Both GET FREE (D Green) and SHOW US A WIN (R McMahon) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.

GOTELLIT (T O’Sullivan) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

A post-race veterinary examination of GET FREE which compounded badly over the final 500m revealed no obvious abnormalities although there was a small amount of blood in the filly’s mouth.

Trainer S O’dea advised that it was their intention to have SIR LISTER (App. M Wood) ridden towards the rear of the field today with cover. App. M Wood explained that when SIR LISTER began well he was unable to get that gelding to settle and therefore he elected to take SIR LISTER to the lead in the early stage.

Mr Warren Roper, Registered owner of PICCALI, was found guilty of a charge under AR175(q) relating to improper conduct in that he did approach the saddling enclosure official, Mr David Stoneley, after the running of race 2 and verbally abuse him. Further he verbally abused Mr James Leskovar, Operations Manager of the Gold Coast Turf Club. After taking all evidence from the parties concerned, Mr Roper was fined the sum of $400.

Race 3: Forsyth & Romano Group Maiden Plate Set Weights – 1800m.
1st – Enterprise Star 2nd - Airworthy 3rd - Judeeliza 4th – Ms Mickdandee

LIJUDARO (App. M Wood) was slow to begin.

After passing the 1600m ENTERPRISE STAR (G Baker) which was over-racing shifted in and struck the heels of MS MICKDANDEE (R McMahon) causing the horse to falter and Jockey G Baker to become unbalanced. ENTERPRISE STAR then shifted out resulting in VIVA LA SLAM (K Pope), ECCLESIA (D Green), CASA FUNDADA (D Tanti) and AIRWORTHY (D Griffin) which were following all having to be checked.

Approaching the 1000m JUDEELIZA (App. A Butler) had to be eased to avoid the heels of ECCLESIA which shifted in.

Stewards sought an explanation from App. J Daley the rider of MISS IRONSIDE regarding the reason for her not attempting to obtain a position one off the rail after passing the 1400m which was available trailing ENTERPRISE STAR. Jockey Daley explained to Stewards that MISS IRONSIDE has had a tendency to over-race in the past and rather than obtain cover at that stage she elected to remain 3 wide. Jockey Daley conceded after viewing the Stewards’ patrol film that it may have been a better option to obtain cover at that point.

Jockey G Baker was questioned as to the riding tactics he adopted on ENTERPRISE STAR which settled in a forward position today which is in contrast to its recent starts. Jockey Baker explained that he had no specific instructions and as the gelding jumped well he elected to press forward rather than having to race wide. Stewards noted Jockey Baker’s explanation.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey J Watkins regarding both the riding tactics he adopted on NORWOOD and also the gelding’s performance. Jockey Watkins explained that he was instructed to take up a forward position today from the good barrier and the gelding settled well in the lead however compounded badly over the final 400m. Trainer J Morrisey explained to Stewards that NORWOOD was stepping up in distance today and due to its good barrier draw he was of the view that it would be advantageous to settle in a forward position. J Morrisey added that he would not proceed with NORWOOD in its current preparation.

Stewards questioned Jockey R McMahon rider of MS MICKDANDEE which performed below expectations. Jockey McMahon explained that the mare did not travel well on the back of ENTERPRISE STAR after passing the 1400m and when placed under pressure in the home straight did not quicken as he would have expected. Trainer M Thompson advised that the mare would now be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 4: 1sport Finance Class 2 H’cap – 1800m.
1st - Satula 2nd – Royal Hope 3rd – Cross Town Traffic 4th - Cathula

ROYAL COLOURS (M Radecker) raced wide in the early stages until passing the 1200m.

SATULA (App. A Badger) was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight and then after passing the 200m shifted ground abruptly to the inside to improve.

When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on DIVIC FIRE in the early stages where the mare was taken to the lead which is in contrast to its most recent starts App. M Wood explained he was instructed to settle in a forward position with cover however after beginning well he elected to take DIVIC FIRE to the lead with a view to surrendering that position to obtain cover in the back straight. App. Wood added that he was unable to restrain DIVIC FIRE as the mare was inclined to over-race so he was forced to lead throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of RED SHADOW (D Tanti) revealed the gelding to be slightly lame in the off fore leg. Trainer Robert Wilson was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for RED SHADOW before the gelding races again.

Race 5: Neil Archer-Celebration of 20 Years Contribution to Gold Coast Racing Class 1 – 1300m.
1st - Horoscopes 2nd - Spinelli 3rd – Sir Rossa 4th – Man of Oar

The start of this race was delayed when SIR ROSSA (T Treichel) became fractious in the barriers and was momentarily cast. SIR ROSSA was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

FATAL FEMME FATALE (K Pope) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start SPINELLI (App. A Butler) was inconvenienced when tightened for room between MAMBO PRINCESS (J Watkins) and HOROSCOPES (R McMahon) which shifted out.

INCH AHEAD (D Tanti) over-raced in the early stages of the event.

App. A Butler rider of SPINELLI was reminded of his obligations under the rules to ensure he rides his mounts out to the end of the race.

Race 6: Conrad Jupiters Summer Surf Girl Fillies and Mares Class 3 H’cap – 1200m.
1st – La Bella Luisa 2nd – Marine Gardens 3rd - Goldfinger 4th - Truly Ablaze

The start of this race was delayed when OLVAREZ (J P Stanley) became momentarily cast in the barriers. OLVAREZ was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. Trainer N Stewart was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

There was a further delay when SHARUFA (App. M Wood) reared in the barriers. The mare was also examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

PYPER’S IMAGE (D Tanti) was hampered at the start when contacted heavily by MARINE GARDENS (D Griffin) which was taken out by TRULY ABLAZE (R McMahon).

MAID READY (C Whiteley) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.

FUTURE IMPACT (G Baker) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

Rounding the home turn and in the straight until after passing the 200m TRULY ABLAZE was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

After passing the 200m FUTURE IMPACT was tightened for room between MAGIC SYMPHONY (App. A Butler) which shifted out to improve and PYPER’S IMAGE which was inclined to lay in.

Jockey L Cheshire reported that HONOURABLE DANCER hung out for a major part of the race.

Jockey G Baker the rider of FUTURE IMPACT which performed below expectations, explained that it was his intention to settle in a forward position however the mare did not have sufficient speed in the early stages and never travelled well throughout the race and in his view was very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of FUTURE IMPACT revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore leg. Stable representative, Matthew Dunn, was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced for FUTURE IMPACT before the mare races again.

Jockey J Watkins (GOLDFINGER) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(4)(e) for striking his mount on 3 occasions after passing the winning post. Jockey Watkins was fined the sum of $200.

Race 7: Rainbow Bay Nippers Class 5 H’cap – 1400m.
1st - Intertheblack 2nd – Monashee Warrior 3rd - Yamarjie 4th – Cat D’Antibes

Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey L Cheshire, rider of the 3rd placegetter (YAMARJIE) to view the photo finish. After viewing this Jockey Cheshire was satisfied with the Judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.

RAINCOAT (C Whiteley) and BERNARDO (App. M Wood) were tightened for room at the start between STRESSO (D Tanti) and YAMARJIE which was taken out by MONASHEE WARRIOR (R McMahon).

CAT D’ANTIBES (D Griffin) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

MANSTON (B Thomson) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

INTERTHEBLACK (T. O'Sullivan) shifted out under pressure over the final 200m, resulting in YAMARJIE (L. Cheshire) being inconvenienced and taken wider on the track, and CAT D'ANTIBES (D. Griffin) also being hampered. T. O'Sullivan was reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort in future to stop riding and straighten his mounts.

Race 8: Quill Group Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 3 H’cap – 1200m.
1st - Snackman 2nd - Vivaheart 3rd – Dreaming Cash 4th – Mr Nappy

DREAMING CASH (C Whiteley) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 600m BEYOND THE LIMIT (App. M Wood) shifted in making heavy contact with the running rail.

Near the 300m THE CLANDY MAN CAN (Ric McMahon) and VIKING STORM (B Looker) came together and bumped.

Jockey T Treichel (MARDI MAGRAR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 200m whilst riding it along with the whip when insufficiently clear of DORADO BEACH (J Murphy) resulting in that runner having to check. Jockey Treichel was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 meetings to commence midnight 12/12/2009 and to expire midnight 28/12/2009.

At the entrance to the straight Jockey C Whiteley (DREAMING CASH) dropped his whip.

Jockey D Griffin rider of MEDESANO which weakened badly in the home straight explained that he felt there was something amiss with the gelding as it seemed to become unbalanced and lose ground. As a consequence Jockey Griffin did not ride MEDESANO out to the end of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of MEDESANO failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

Stewards questioned Jockey Julie Murphy regarding her riding of DORADO BEACH, in particular over the final 600m. Jockey Murphy explained that after meeting with interference at the start she settled further back than was intended and she was under instructions to not become wide on the home turn so she elected to remain towards the inside. She added that in her view that although DORADO BEACH had to be checked near the 200m it did not finish the race off as expected although the gelding will take benefit from today’s race. Stewards advised Jockey Murphy that in their view she could have shown more vigour on DORADO BEACH rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, she was reminded of her obligations under the rules to ensure her rides leave no room for query.
