Race 1: Magic Millions Packages Book Now Class 1 Plate – 2200m.
1st – Dalai 2nd – Lucky Landing 3rd – Notting 4th – Bearhug
DALAI (N Evans) was inclined to lay in in the early stages of the straight.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of POTTERS CAY, Jockey Ric McMahon said the mare travelled well until the 800m point and when placed under pressure shortly after failed to respond and in his opinion raced flat. Stewards will speak to Trainer B Baldwin regarding future plans for POTTERS CAY.
A veterinary examination of LUCKY LANDING (JP Stanley) found the horse to be suffering from heat stress after the event.
Race 2: World of Hospitality QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 900m.
1st – I’d Do Anything 2nd - Bokissa 3rd - Whisprian 4th – Miss Mimmick
BOKISSA (T Pannell) had a tendency to race greenly for the majority of the event and rounding the home turn shifted out making contact with MISS MIMMICK (K Purdy) causing BOKISSA to blunder and become unbalanced.
WHISPRIAN (D Tanti) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the early stages of the straight.
Race 3: Commercial Kitchen Company Maiden H’cap – 900m.
1st – Warrior Girl 2nd – Another Talent 3rd - Harvzee 4th - Setgo
MISS ISABELL (C Whiteley) began awkwardly and shifted in making heavy contact with STRALINI (App. A Butler).
THUNDER LANE (App. M Wood) was slow to begin.
HARVZEE (K Pope) blundered on jumping away.
SUNDAY PROMISE (K Yoshida) and SETGO (JP Stanley) both raced wide for the majority of the event.
HARVZEE was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
Near the 300m THUNDER LANE was crowded for room when racing between SUNDAY PROMISE and SETGO which shifted out to improve.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MISS ISABELL, Jockey C Whiteley confirmed his disappointment with the mare’s performance and said MISS ISABELL was in an agitated mood prior to and throughout the race resulting in the mare racing below expectation. Representative for Trainer Sue Birney confirmed that MISS ISABELL would be sent for an immediate spell.
Race 4: Master Floor Preparers Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Coming Up Trumps 2nd - Shovnco 3rd - Haslington 4th – Riviera Clay
As App. J Daley was indisposed through illness, Stewards permitted App. M Wood to be replaced as the rider on SHOVNCO. Connections advised that it was their intention to ride SHOVNCO in the lead position if possible.
HASLINGTON (R McMahon) was tightened on jumping away between WILDCARD BILLY (C Whiteley) and RIVIERA CLAY (App. E Kehoe) both of which shifted ground.
KING KITAAYA (K Purdy) was slow to begin.
Near the 800m RIVIERA CLAY shifted in making contact with BENGURION (L Cheshire).
SINGIN THE BLUES (App. S Stanbridge) raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of SINGIN THE BLUES found the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer B Crowley will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the gelding again races.
Near the 300m ROUND TRIP (T Pannell) and WILDCARD BILLY came together and bumped.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics of Jockey R McMahon on HASLINGTON rounding the home turn. After taking evidence from Jockey McMahon and S Morrisey, representative for Trainer J Morrisey the enquiry was adjourned to a date and time to be fixed.
Race 5: Luxe Hair & Beauty Fillies and Mares Maiden H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Lightning Jo 2nd - Flawless 3rd – Show Us A Win 4th - Foxysal
The start of this race was delayed as a result of LIGHTNING JO (D Tanti) proving difficult to load. Trainer T Bailey’s representative was advised that LIGHTNING JO must obtain a further 2 Barrier Certificates before the filly again races.
LITTLE ROSIE (B Hull) was slow to begin.
FOXYSAL (JP Stanley) which began awkwardly, shifted out making contact with GET UP SAL (G Baker).
SHOW US A WIN (App. A Butler) was inclined to hang out in the early stages of the event.
HOT FLING (T Pannell) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 200m LIGHTNING JO shifted out when struck with the whip.
CATCH KATHLEEN (App. J Kropp) had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.
Race 6: Stuart James Memorial Class 3 H’cap – 1800m.
1st - Satula 2nd – Silver Whisper 3rd – Cross Town Traffic 4th – Will Impress
Stewards questioned Trainer B Guy’s representative regarding the manner in which the bandages were applied to CAPE CHIVAS (App. M Wood). After considering the explanation and taking into account the stable’s good record regarding such issues, Stewards took no further action other than to remind B Guy’s representative of the requirements of AR140A.
Shortly after the start SATULA (App. A Badger) was tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between SILVER WHISPER (C Whiteley) and ICANWIN (B Hull) which shifted out.
WILL IMPRESS (K Pope) over-raced rounding the first turn.
Leaving the 300m CAPE CHIVAS was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied when attempting a run to the inside of ICANWIN where doubtful racing room existed. As a result of this incident CAPE CHIVAS was held up and unable to obtain clear running until leaving the 200m.
HERE’S THE END (App. E Kehoe) was held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.
DEEBEE COOPER (JP Stanley) was held up from the early stages of the straight until near the 100m.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics of App. E Kehoe on HERE’S THE END between the 500m and 400m section of the race. After taking some evidence the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
Race 7: Commercial Kitchen Company Class 3 H’cap – 1400m.
1st - Delago Pilli 2nd – King Of The Kongo 3rd – Beyond The Limit 4th – Street By Street
EEDEEAL was a late scratching at 11.10 am. Trainer G Ryan was fined the sum of $200 for failing to scratch EEDEEAL by the prescribed time.
RULING PARTY (App. A Butler) and KING OF THE KONGO (K Pope) were both slow to begin.
KING OF THE KONGO raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.
KING OF THE KONGO was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
REEF COURT (D Barron) shifted out under pressure in the run to the finish.
Race 8: Girls Day Out Sat 2 Jan Class 1 H’cap – 1200m.
1st - Unsupervised 2nd – John’s Gem 3rd - Lurid 4th – Penny Louise
Trainer T Bailey was fined the sum of $100 for late notification of rider for JOHN’S GEM (K Pope).
Connections advised that it was their intention to have LURID (C Whiteley) ridden a little quieter than normal.
The start of this race was delayed as a result of JOHN’S GEM (K Pope) requiring farrier attention.
KALBO (App. E Kehoe) over-raced in the early stages of the event and leaving the 800m shifted out making contact with LURID.
Making the 800m LION BEAUTY (R McMahon) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of JOHN’S GEM and UNSUPERVISED (App. M Wood). It was established that JOHN’S GEM which was over-racing shifted out and LION BEAUTY attempted to take a run to the inside where doubtful racing room existed. It was noted that JOHN’S GEM continued to over-race for some distance.
LURID was caught racing wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
The veterinary surgeon reported that MA BONNE ANNEE lost a near hind plate and sustained lacerations to the near hind leg in running. MA BONNE ANNEE suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The horse will incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A. A swab sample was taken from MA BONNE ANNEE.
