SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting 16 January 2010 - Race 5

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason for HANDSOME DANE falling on the home turn and App E. Kehoe the rider of ON THE BARBY being dislodged. Evidence was taken from J. Stanley (HANDSOME DANE), G. Baker (COMING UP TRUMPS) and D. Tanti (COUNTY RAIDER). After considering the evidence it was established that HANDSOME DANE, which was under pressure, did shift out and away from COUNTY RAIDER, which shifted out slightly, as a result HANDSOME DANE made contact with the hind quarters of COMING UP TRUMPS, which after receiving this contact shifted in slightly. This resulted in HANDSOME DANE clipping the heels of COMING UP TRUMPS and falling. ON THE BARBY which was following was severely checked dislodging App E. Kehoe and MATTER OF PRIORITY, LUCKY LANDING and PLAIN SKAR also being severely checked. As stewards were of the view that this incident could not be attributed to the carelessness of any one rider no further action was taken.

Race 1: Oceania Aviation Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Glorietta 2nd – Smart Of Course 3rd – Chapter 4th – Crysclang

App A. Chau the rider of CHAPTER was fined the sum of $300.00 for failing to claim down to his minimum riding weight.

TIGER’S MISTRESS was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to race.

GLORIETTA (D. Griffin) jumped very awkwardly and shifted out severely hampering ABBIDAN (B. Swanton).

CHAPTER (App A. Chau) shifted in at the start taking BLASKO (P. Hammersley) in onto TIGER’S MISTRESS (S. Galloway), which as a result was hampered.

Near the 600m PRINCESS SINGA (L. Cheshire) had to be steadied off the heels of SHE’S THE BOMB (T. Treichel) and shifted out taking SMART OF COURSE (K. Yoshida) wider on the track.

App A. Chau the rider of CHAPTER was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that near the 450m he permitted his mount to shift in to the inside of the heels of SHE’S THE BOMB where there was insufficient room for 2 horses and when he was not sufficiently clear of TIGER’S MISTRESS, resulting in TIGER’S MISTRESS being severely checked. MAGIC CASHEL (D.Tanti) and ALONG CAME DOLLY (A. Merritt) which were following were also hampered in consequence. App. Chau’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence immediately and to expire midnight 26 February 2010. When assessing penalty stewards took into account that at a crucial stage ABBIDAN shifted in and made contact with SHE’S THE BOMB which contributed to the severity of the interference sustained to TIGER’S MISTRESS. B. Swanton the rider of ABBIDAN was reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort in the future to keep his mounts on a straight course.

GLORIETTA raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

ABBIDAN raced 4 wide without cover throughout the event.

Jockey G. Baker was questioned regarding the poor performance of HOLDING THE FORT. G. Baker explained that as the pace in the race was only moderate he was able to settle further forward than anticipated however, the gelding never travelled well throughout and failed to respond to his riding and upon entering the home straight weakened from that point.
