STONEY PARK (D Tanti) and COOLCAP (G Lynch) were slow to begin.

WILY TIM (B Wallace) jumped away awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition.

Approaching the 1000m COOLCAP improved on to the heels of SUNSHINE LASS (C Whiteley) and had to be checked and in doing so shifted out making contact with LITTLE BILLIE (K Pope). SHOW ME WHY (N Seymour) which was following was also forced to steady in this incident.

Leaving the 1000m FAMILY HERO (Matthew Palmer) over-raced for a short distance whilst being restrained.

BROKACANON (K Forrester) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Stewards questioned App. B Wallace regarding his tactics adopted on WILY TIM, in particular from the 600m where an opportunity appeared for him to improve his position to the outside of BOLD AND AWAY (L Cheshire), an option which he failed to take and also near the 400m why he elected to position himself behind the tiring FAMILY HERO which resulted in him being forced to check severely from that filly’s heels. After taking evidence from App. Wallace and Trainer John Wallace, Stewards advised App. Wallace that in their opinion his ride had lacked discretion and he would be expected to show more initiative in the future than he did on this occasion. Stewards found that in all the circumstances no action should be taken.

SUAVE CONSORT bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which SUAVE CONSORT has bled, the gelding will incur a lifetime ban from racing.

A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE BILLIE which raced greenly throughout and finished a distant last, failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. When questioned, Trainer S Birney advised of her intention to spell the gelding. Stewards advised Ms Birney that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

Stewards questioned Trainer’s representative Mr Hirose regarding the seemingly improved performance of CARRY ME BABY (App. Mitchell Wood) today as opposed to its recent starts. Mr Hirose explained that at the filly’s two most recent starts CARRY ME BABY had been slow to begin and he felt there were excuses on both occasions for the performances. He further added that in his opinion today’s race was of a lower class than its most recent starts. Stewards noted his explanation.

A post-race veterinary examination of COMAGIC which performed below expectations revealed the horse to be making an abnormal respiratory noise and to be suffering from an elevated heart rate. Stewards advised Trainer L Kelly that the results of an ECG were required and COMAGIC must perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial prior to its next race start.
