1st – Rio Rex 2nd – Thor Real 3rd – Coolcap 4th – Macushna
RIO REX (K Forrester) was slow to begin.
FLYING TOUCHDOWN blundered and shifted in abruptly on jumping away resulting in App. M Wood being dislodged. The connections of FLYING TOUCHDOWN were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
Near the 900m when the pace slackened RAGING FORTIES (K Sawyers) and RIO REX both had to be steadied from heels when over-racing.
THOR REAL (D Barron) and REBIRTH (K Fujii) raced wide for the majority of the event.
RIO REX which was held up for clear running rounding the home turn shifted out abruptly near the 300m.
SURGIN’ ON (JP Stanley) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
When questioned regarding the performance of IN LIGHTS which performed below market expectations, Jockey A Pattillo stated that after travelling well in a good position close to the lead in the early stages, the horse failed to respond when placed under pressure near the 600m and in his opinion did not feel comfortable with today’s rain affected conditions. Trainer D Forster agreed with Jockey Pattillo’s assessment and advised Stewards of her intention not to start IN LIGHTS on rain affected tracks in future. A post race veterinary examination of IN LIGHTS revealed no apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
It was reported that COOLCAP (G Lynch) lost its near fore plate in running.
As Jockey A Pattillo was stood down by the club’s doctor following this engagement. Rider replacements were made pursuant to Stewards’ Race Day Summary.

As App. A Butler was to be overweight, App. M Wood replaced A Butler on LIVADA. App. Butler was fined the sum of $200.
LIVADA took charge of the rider en route to the barriers causing the saddle to slip. LIVADA was re-saddled at the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and was passed to take its place in the field.
LIVADA (App. M Wood) and SLEEPING SINGLE (C Franklin), which were both slow to begin, made contact on jumping away.
Stewards questioned App. M Wood and Trainer S Jones’ representative C Sparks, regarding the performance of LIVADA which performed below market expectations. App. Wood stated that after showing early speed and taking up a forward position, the horse was disappointing when placed under pressure as it failed to respond from approaching the 400m. Mr Sparks could offer no explanation regarding the performance and undertook to advise Stewards if anything comes to light over coming days which might explain the performance.
Stewards questioned Jockey C Franklin and Trainer P Rankin regarding the performance and handling of SLEEPING SINGLE. Jockey Franklin stated that after being hampered on jumping away, the horse did not feel comfortable in the rain affected conditions and raced greenly throughout. Stewards questioned Jockey Franklin regarding his apparent lack of vigour during the middle stages and early stages of the straight. Jockey Franklin explained that the horse at that stage of the race did not feel comfortable in the conditions and was resenting the kick back from the runners forward of him. Stewards advised Jockey Franklin that given the circumstances with the condition of the track and SLEEPING SINGLE having only its first start, the explanation would be noted however, instructed Jockey Franklin that in future to ride in such a manner that would not leave him open to question.

Stewards accepted Trainer S O’dea’s explanation as to the reason for the late rider notification on GO CART (App. A Butler).
The start of this race was affected by the starter however, after the field had travelled approximately 100m the false start siren and light malfunctioned which resulted in all riders being of the belief that a false start had occurred. As such, all horses were restrained and turned back to the barriers after racing approximately 600m. As all riders were of the opinion that their horses had not been detrimentally affected and as all horses were cleared by the veterinary surgeon, they were permitted to take their places in the field. Following this and in consultation with the Starter, the back-up false start mechanism was ordered to be used for the remainder of the meeting.
Jockey D Green the rider of OUTER POLE after being caught 3 wide, allowed his mount to stride forward from the 1400m to assume a position 1 off the fence outside the leader.

Jockey Green was suspended from riding in races for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 11/07/2010 and to expire midnight 18/07/2010.

He was of the opinion that BULLCHASE travelled well during the early and middle stages and was not dissatisfied with the tempo set. Trainer W Pholi’s representative, Mr A Pholi, confirmed the instructions and was not dissatisfied with the ride of Jockey Forrester. Stewards noted the comments however, Trainer’s representative, A Pholi, was advised that should it be the stable’s intention to alter the tactics in future starts, they will be required to notify Stewards.
When questioned regarding the performance of CEE JAY CLANG, App. B Looker stated that the horse was under pressure from the 700m and failed to run on.
