Near the 1400m KASAFUEGO shifted out and bumped NUJOOLOO ROAD (L Cook).
App. P Schmidt rider of VISCHELLE dropped her whip near the 300m.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on UNPAID between the 600m and 400m section of the race, Jockey D Griffin said that it was his intention to follow ARABIAN SEA (C Whiteley) forward but when that horse failed to make any significant ground at that point, he elected to move UNPAID back towards the inside, however, the horse then dropped the bit for a short distance near the 500m and only commenced to make up ground approaching the 300m. When further questioned regarding UNPAID settling further back in the field than expected, Jockey Griffin said the instructions were to allow the horse to settle where it was comfortable and after making contact with another runner at the start he elected to race the horse in a position further back in the field than had been anticipated. Stewards noted the explanations.
Jockey K Yoshida was questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on SUNDAY ADVICE today which resulted in the horse occupying a more forward position compared to the previous tactics adopted on that gelding. Jockey Yoshida said that the instructions were to allow the horse to stride forward if there was no pace in the race. He further stated that SUNDAY ADVICE appeared to appreciate the softer prevailing track conditions. Stewards noted his explanation.
